Detailed Reviews
We were lucky enough to spend the weekend at Lane Head and we are SO glad we did. We were nervous as it was the first trip for us since Covid hit but we really didn’t need to be. The entire place was SPOTLESS, there was hand sanitiser absolutely everywhere, and no opportunity for cross contamination as they have such fab procedures in place. Our room was beautiful, bathroom great! Shower was fab, with excellent water pressure and again, spotless. Bed was comfortable, entire room was beautifully set out and the venue is just breathtaking. Breakfast was great, very yummy and freshly cooked, with options for gluten free / vegan aswell.
The owners Dave and Suzette are honestly one of the nicest couples we’ve ever come across. Full of advice, such good conversation and they make the place exceptional. We will DEFINITELY be back!

We stayed here for 2 nights in September. Suzette and Dave were welcoming and informative at check-in, and friendly and full of good advice thereafter. The property ticked all of the boxes expected of a great guest house – spacious bedroom with a very comfortable bed, modern bathroom with a hot shower, and delicious cooked breakfasts (with locally sourced produce) with freshly brewed coffee!
As an added bonus, there are spectacular canvases of Lake District landmarks and notable fells displayed around the property, and copies of these are available to purchase online from a friend of the hosts!
The cosy bar is well-stocked with local beers and spirits, and on our second night, Dave was kind enough to sit and listen to our life stories and share some of his own (despite missing the baseball on TV as a result)!
The property benefits from a ‘tucked away’ location far enough from the A66 that traffic noise isn’t an issue. There are a number of good walks that can be started from the property (Blencathra being the obvious near fell), but Derwentwater and Ullswater can both be reached by car in about 10 minutes. Despite the pouring rain altering our plans on the second day, we still managed to climb a few Wainwrights and walk a lap of Derwentwater without the need to drive a lot.
Overall, we experienced the perfect short stay here – so much so, it has inspired me to write my first ever Trip Advisor review (despite having stayed in B&Bs, guest houses and hotels for over 15 years)!

First time at Lane Head Farm and with regards to our personal requirements for a guest house this scored 11/10 across the board for location, friendliness, hosting, hospitality, service, comfort, cleanliness and food/drink. Thanks Suzy and Dave for making us feel right at home from initially walking through the door to departure. Even 'Red' the dog gives it his paw of approval. I can highly recommend this guest house and for any future visits to the Lake District Lane Head Farm will be the only place to stay for us.

Stayed at Lane head farm over New Year for some walking. The house is close enough to the A66 to be easily acccessible, but set far enough back to be quiet and peaceful. Suzette and Dave were welcoming and helpful, and everything about the place was comfortable. There are some fabulous walks nearby—Ullswater, Derwent Water, Blencathra and Skiddaw are all close, and Penrith and Keswick easily accessible. I think what I’ll remember most, though, is walking the mile or so home from the pub at Troutbeck on New Year’s Eve, and gaping at the brilliance of the stars, with the Milky Way shining white above the surrounding mountains.
The breakfasts were delicious, and the fresh sausage just for the dog was greatly appreciated by its recipient. We didn’t use the beautiful clean towel on our hairy hound, however—too good for him!

After staying at Lane Head Farm Country Guest House we cannot recommend this place highly enough. It is a beautiful B & B set in stunning surroundings. Our room was spotless and very comfortable with the added bonus of overlooking the bird feeders😊David and Suzette are very friendly hosts who provide a lovely breakfast with plenty of choice. They recommended and booked a nearby pub for us to have an evening meal. In these covid times where everything has to be prebooked this was such a help. We will definitely return.
Thank you.

Having made the trip from Cambridge to Scotland many, many times with our 9 year old Boxer dog. We’ve often broken up the journey in a variety of hotels and B&B’s en-route. How we’ve never stumbled upon Lane Head Farm guest house is beyond us!
This is simply the best B&B we’ve ever stayed in. Dave and Suzette are such wonderful hosts and made a total fuss over our dog (which she loved). She loved the cooked sausage she was given at breakfast even more and the little box of treats in the room was a nice touch too.
We stayed in room 3 which had a lovely 4 poster bed and felt very cosy. The shower in the en-suite was amazing.
We had a drink in the lounge bar and the owners came and joined us and it genuinely felt like we were socialising with old friends.
Breakfast was excellent and all freshly cooked.
It is very evident that COVID-19 precautions are in place throughout the property and we felt very safe at all times.
We will definitely be back on our next trip.

Early March we were blessed to spend another weekend at Lane Head Farm Country Guest House. It wasn’t our first visit and it certainly won’t be our last. The guest house has the most beautiful views of the countryside and it is well located for fabulous walks as well as being close enough to Keswick for a visit to fabulous tea shops. Dave and Suzette were so welcoming and made sure that we were comfortable and had everything that we needed. The breakfast was perfect - having ordered both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Suzette provided a super service and Dave came out of the kitchen to see us after he had finished cooking our breakfast feast. The added bonus is that they both love dogs and so welcomed our doodles with a bowls, treats and a doggy towel in our room. Whilst the pandemic sweeping the country means that we cannot re-visit in the immediate future, we are already looking forward to returning. We cannot think of a better place to visit when travel is opened up again. Thank you Dave and Suzette.

We have just enjoyed another fantastic stay at Lane Head Farm Country Guest House. It is a fabulous house with great historic charm and is decorated to a high standard. We love the location for its’ beauty and convenience. Suzette and Dave were as attentive and welcoming as always and we enjoyed the most delicious breakfast. They have clearly adapted their procedures to support social distancing and wore masks and gloves when serving, which made us feel very safe and comfortable. Our Labradoodle was given equal attention with doggie bowls and treats in the bedroom! Highly recommend!

The lady was very pleasant she took over the B&B this year she made us very welcome. The negative bits was it is vegetarian breakfast which was not mentioned when we booked it through booking.com so-be aware! The breakfast was beautifully cooked every day. Our rooms were not cleaned everyday only every other day! As we had paid £10 per night for our dog we thought that was expensive as the room was not cleaned,! We thought there was a lot of corner cutting! The table for breakfast was not laid so you had to basically lay your own table. I would expect cups and saucers and cutlery to be put out. The position of the guest house is great getting to the north lakes. It is on a busy road so getting out can be difficult .

I am glad you enjoyed the stay it was lovely having you. We are working toward eco-friendly We laid all the tables in the past but it was crowded with unused tableware as not everyone had hot tea/coffee or unused bowls for cereal /fruit so taking what you need reduces washing and electricity, not all guests will have full breakfast. If you take a cake/fruit then small plates/side dishes/ bowls are stacked to take to your table. Rooms are cleaned every 2 days but if you need fresh towels then just ring a bell we are more than happy to provide them. I will ensure your table is laid next time with basic placement as I want you to have a good experience. Regards Suruchi

We have just returned from a weekend in this fabulous B&B and cannot say enough good things about the place. The owners Dave and Suz are extremely welcoming and make you feel at home immediately. The farmhouse is beautifully decorated and has lovely rooms with traditional and modern features as appropriate.
We took our furry friend with us and he was made more than welcome and was allowed to go anywhere in the house.
Breakfast was outstanding and freshly cooked to order with even a sausage waiting for our dog when we arrived at the table.
The bar is well stocked with local ale and Dave is only to happy to talk you through the different attributes of each bottle. I would have sampled them all had we stayed longer.
COVID regulations are well followed without them feeling oppressive and the house felt safe at all times.
We will definitely return in the future and have no doubt we will enjoy the same high level of care and attention and wonderful Fried Bread!!
