We booked the whole house, for a big family get together and it was fantastic, The hosts were very friendly and helpful and gave us clear and helpful guidance before arrival (how to access property, recommended restaurants etc) We had 15 people stay (13 adults and 2 children). There was a lovely large dining table and a big and fully equipped kitchen. We particularly enjoyed the dumb waiter! The house was very clean and decorated beautifully. All rooms are en-suite apart from one, which is perfect when you have so many people staying in one place! It is in a fantastic location, just a couple minutes walk and you are in the centre of town - which is fantastic. The only thing to mention (and it isn't a negative) but just to consider there is a lot of stairs to the top bedrooms because of the layout. It wasn't an issue for us as we made sure that the older member of the party (who would struggle with all of the stairs) were on the lower down bedrooms. So just one thing to think about if your booking the whole place, but all in all, it was a fantastic stay and we will definitely be going back!…
My family stayed in the whole of Cumbria House to celebrate my special birthday and it was a special place to stay. Excellent location , spotlessly clean , beautifully decorated and furnished. Plenty of space for everyone.and parking adjacent to house. Ruth and James very welcoming and friendly.
Having access to the whole house was just perfect for our daughters wedding preparations ( pre and post). Ruth and James could not do enough to make our stay safe and pleasant, they even baked us a fresh leaf of bread....which was divine. You will find this period house is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Ruth and James also arranged the rooms for our specific needs which was really appreciated. In particular we loved the white bed linen ( exceptional quality) , the kitchen is well equipped to cope with the simplest menu right through to making complex dishes. The dumb waiter was so useful for getting things from the vasement to the finning room ( easily accommodate 15 at the table) The open fire places are very welcoming. The house is well suited to star gazing and eash room has a lovely view. Great off street parking( we had 6 vehicle's). If you are a large group, Cumbria House will not disappoint.…
As other reviews have stated, this is an excellent place to stay, just blocks away from the city centre. Clean and comfortable, though perhaps a little small by US standards. Super-friendly hosts who are full of sightseeing ideas. And, of course, great breakfasts.
Very nice B&B close to all amenities in Keswick run by James and Ruth who make you feel very welcome and relaxed in their home. Fabulous breakfasts and, if it rains which it often does - this is The Lakes after all - homemade cake left out for guests. Comfy bed and parking on site which is rare in Keswick.
Our stay at Cumbria House was wonderful. We had a twin room overlooking the church, the beds were super comfortable and the room was very clean. It was in a ideal location, close enough to the shops and pubs and a very short walk to the lake side. Ruth and James are very knowledgeable and are always happy to help with anything you need. The breakfast menu is fantastic and the quality is superb.
In my view this is the best B&B in Keswick. I shan't repeat my previous praises here as all you need to do is to check the plethora of 5 star reviews. The only problem now is trying to book a room because of its popularity.
Our stay at Cumbria House could not have been better. Breakfasts were delicious and served in a bright, cheerful room. We left Ruth and James feeling like we had been special guests in their home. We hope to return to Keswick some day and this is definitely where we would stay.
First time staying in a BnB and couldn’t ask for a better experience!! James and Ruth were utterly lovely and were very understanding of our occasional lateness for breakfast/checkout!! It was a dream having breakfast at 9.30!! Many thanks, we will be back. Hannah and Ben :)
What a beautiful B & B in such a fabulous little town in the Lake District. Ruth and James are perfect hosts who offer varied options for breakfast, all of which were so good! I had the cinnamon apple topped porridge, my husband the Bircher muesli, my mom the pancake bread topped with berries, and my father the traditional English breakfast. We wanted a little taste of what the area was like as we had a long haul from Scotland to Wales, and it was the perfect overnight. We arrived with time to walk around town and down to the lake. Ruth and James offered dinner options and we had a great dinner in a busy pub where we met fellow travelers and locals alike. The stay left us with the decision to return soon and definitely stay longer!
