A peaceful haven , thank you so much for accommodating us as we emerge from lockdown . Loved your b and b , warm welcome and nothing too much trouble . nice to get to know you both and also the studio opening and it was great to learn more about your arts and crafts was an amazing opportunity . Enjoyed the freedom and space , also the beautiful Mill House and surrounding gardens . Its small , with two rooms , makes for a very personal experience in your wonderful home . Fab hosts , lovely breakfast , and we will be back again very soon . COVID safe and secure too, and this also added to our experience in a positive way . Thank you .

This is a lovely B&B situated about 10 or 12 minutes out of Penrith! The room we had was cosy and roomy, we were very comfortable. Debby has organized a book with all the nearby amenities. Her breakfast was outstanding & more than we needed, it was very delicious! She even went to the trouble of buying cream for my coffee! I was thrilled to get tours of both Debby & Gary’s artist studios. Debby even welcomed us into her home when we showed up a little early! We loved all the birds, rabbits, squirrels & horses all around the properties, I felt I stepped into a children’s book! Hopefully we will be back!

Just enjoyed a three night stay at this wonderful location - fun to find (down a half mile drive) but very much worth the adventure. Our hosts could not have done any more to make our stay any better. The room we used was large and spacious and the bed exceptionally comfortable. The whole property has been superbly restored from the original mill - their photograph album shows how derelict it was before the modernisation. However it is the owners who make it special and the little touches were so appreciated, especially the offer to use their office when I had a few problems with internet access.(perhaps I should have remembered I was on holiday and TRIED to leave the enails alone for a few days?!). We also welcomed Debby's local walk directions on our first evening, when, after a long drive we needed a short wander without needing to use the car. If you need good access to Ullswater or the surrounding area please seriously consider booking here - you won't be disappointed. Thanks to you both for your hospitality. Our only disappointment was that we didn't get to see the wood burner "in action" - my wife would have loved that - no ones fault the weather was just too warm!!

Sockbridge Mill is a well restored and clean Bed and Breakfast with modern décor. There are a few quirks like having to take your shoes off at the door and not being able to pay with card or cheque which are a bit inconvenient, but it is the attitude of the land lord that means I cannot recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone who values good customer service.

You see, we were unfortunate enough for a tap handle to snap off in the en suite room. This was acknowledged to not be our fault by the land lady, Debbie, at the time. Both my wife and I had successfully operated taps for a collective 60 years without something like this happening and I am not the incredible hulk. Debbie kindly offered us the use of another bathroom for the night, but this was still quite an inconvenience. We were travelling with our 12 week old baby and the access to running hot and cold water without having to cross the landing many times in a night was one of the reasons we had chosen to stay at this B&B. Being forced to fill a flask of warm water for the many night time changes, washing our hands with baby wipes and bathing our baby by holding her in the shower, made our stay less than enjoyable.

Naturally we thought it would be appropriate that there be some small acknowledgement of this in the price when it came to settle up the next day. The difference in price of an en suite and standard room perhaps, given the en suite was not functional. Unfortunately this was not offered, leaving us to raise it ourselves. At this suggestion the land lord, Gary suggested that I had broken the tap and that I should feel lucky I was not charged for it. Furthermore when we did settle the balance in cash, as requested, he accused us of not paying in full and we had to point out we had already sent them a deposit by paypal.

In short we did not get what we paid for and we were insulted and disrespected.

At all times we try our best to ensure that our customers are comfortable and enjoy their stay, but unfortunately sometimes events occur that are beyond our control. In this instance the customers had broken a new tap in the sink in their en suite. It was too late to get a plumber, so we offered them alternative facilities in the form of a large comfortable, adjacent and convenient bathroom for their sole use. We feel we acted reasonably, and in good faith, so we were surprised when these customers requested a reduction to their bill. We were not rude or disrespectful when discussing this matter with them, as has been stated by the customers in their misleading comments. Sadly this incident has marred an otherwise happy stay.

Sockbridge Mill is beautifully idyllic and makes for a very peaceful getaway. Tucked away with practically no neighbours it is very quiet and our nights sleep was excellent.

Our room, The Granary, was extremely clean and very comfortable. The room is lovely and cosy, with good facilities. The rainforest shower in the en-suite is a great way to start the day!

The breakfast that is provided just goes on to improve your morning. Absolutely delicious and the homemade bread (freshly baked that very morning!!) was just incredible.

As hosts Debby and Gary were very welcoming and accommodating. Informative and they give great suggestions for the surrounding area and restaurants.

We would absolutely stay again and fully intend to! Sockbridge Mill is just wonderful.

It's not easy to properly review this property as we only had a single night here in May 2013 and didn't have time to really explore the surrounds or to engage for any length of time with our hosts. We had a little trouble finding the house as we had missed the sign on the gate and had to be rescued from the neighbouring property by Debby! Our room, the Granary, was quite big, very comfortable and clean, beautifully decorated, with a lovely bathroom. The house is situated amongst picturesque countryside which was very peaceful. Debby recommended the local pub for dinner as we wanted to take a walk rather than get back into the car. It was a lovely walk along a country laneway and through the back streets of the village to the hotel and took about 30 minutes. On our return we spent some time in the guests sitting room before a great night's sleep in our very comfy bed. Wi Fi in the room was intermittent but was advised that there was a place on the landing where reception was much better. Because of its location it would be a great place to stay for a couple of nights or more particularly if looking to unwind. Jo and Chris - Adelaide

What a wonderful place! My boyfriend and I live very far apart so meet half way between a lot. And so far this has been the most lovely place we have stayed.
The breakfast was delicious, the rooms beautiful. All the art work around the place adds to the already beautiful building. Beds were very comfy, gorgeous massive bathroom all to ourselves. It felt like a home away from home, especially taking our shoes off, that made us feel welcome straight away. Plenty of pubs about, and not far from many exciting places.
I can't say enough how great this place was, go and visit yourself.. you will definitely not be disappointed! (I'm worried all other places we stay may not be as lovely!)

We booked this B & B in April when we realised we needed a break from the "rat-race and what a wonderful relaxing retreat Sockbridge Mill B & B turned out to be! Fantastic welcome with tea and homemade cake we began to unwind instantly to the sound of the river and bird song. Our room was just as described and seen on the internet web site we booked through. The artwork and interior decor is stunning and needless to say it was clean and cosy and finished to a high standard. We only stayed one night and took Debbie's , our host, advice and went to the local pub the Queens for an excellent evening meal The Mill is set in beautiful countryside and a 30 mins walk to the pub. We returned to our room relaxed and replete.Having had a very comfortable night we were greeted with an exceptional cooked english breakfast.
Things to note this B & B welcomed our small dog.
The breakfast was brilliant,
Ensuite bedroom stylish and comfortable double bed with great pillows.
Delicious home baked bread and cake
Book direct with Debbie see their website.
Clear directions given to find the B & B
Can't recommend highly enough
We will be back before the year is out!!

Booked the Granary room at Sockbridge at short notice for one night only. Initially we could not find it, but host Debby responded to our phone call be coming out to find us!
Sockbridge Mill is luxurious, hosts are pleasant and attentive, and breakfast splendid.
The only thing wrong was that our stay was brief, so we intend to book later in the year for a longer stay.
A magic place.

The hosts of Sockbrdge Mill bed and breakfast were really friendly, welcoming and well informed. The quality of accomodation was outstanding and very cosy, especially the "proper" fire on a cold autumn evening and the delicious food prepared with consideration for my special dietary needs. Breakfast was a real treat. The surrounding area, with walks recommended by our charming hosts, was incredibly beautiful and we had a lovely time. Thank you very much, Debbie and Gary!
