An abrupt right turn off the A591 from Keswick leads you over a humpback bridge and on to Under Loughrhigg. The Foxghyll appears . It's in a wonderful setting along the River Rothay - about a mile walk into Ambleside or half that to the Badger Bar in Rydal. We found a charming Grade 2 building with very comfortable appointments....

We have been visiting Fox Ghyll for over 20 years, usually about once a year and we have never been disappointed. The house has been owned by the same family for all of this time, first by the mother of the current proprietor and now by her son Paul. This is a truly charming, welcoming and friendly B&B. From the moment you arrive until you leave you are made to feel more like visiting family than just a guest. Nothing has been overlooked, from wine glasses and a corkscrew in the rooms to torches, brollies and hats for guests to use in the lobby. The decor is charming and...

The house is historic and unusual, full of interesting features from ornate cornices to stained glass windows on the landing leading onto the guest rooms. It is at the same time extremely welcoming and comfortable, with very generously-proportioned rooms and the kind of beds that mean you have a really delicious night's...

Door out on to little terrace where we enjoyed and evening night cap. Comfy bed and jacuzzi bath. Breakfast was freshly cooked and plentiful to set us up for our days activity.
