My husband and I visited for 1 night in early March. First impressions from the car park looking up to the hotel was that it was in need of a good professional paint job and a good tidy up.
View towards the lake is good especially from the lounge.
We were disappointed with our room, the bathroom was tiny with nowhere to place any toiletries, wash bag etc. The bathroom was also damp, especially in the am with condensation from the wall tiles pooling on the floor?
We did go down to the pool but found the tiny changing room unacceptable and not fit for purpose. There was no privacy for anyone changing with any gender being able to enter the room at any time.. no separate areas for any gender, family room etc. Lockers far too small also.
The better part of our stay was the fantastic meal in the restaurant, all excellent with good service. I can honestly say it was one of the best meals I have ever had, well done.
There was plenty of choice for breakfast . I did find the sausage and bacon undercooked along with some other guests, in fact it was sent back to the kitchen.

On reflection we would stay again to enjoy another meal but we would stay in an upgraded room.

I would hope that refurbishment continues at the hotel as it needs it quite desperately both inside and out. The hotel has a lovely setting and the state of some of it spoils it.
Definite upgrade needs to be carried out in the changing area to comply with regulations, health and safety

My wife have just returned from our latest visit to Beech Hill one of our favourite hotels to stay at. The experience has been changed by the arrival of Covid 19 as expected.

Some things never change the magnificent view from the terrace, the friendly helpful staff, the excellent service, and the superb food are all that we have come to expect from this lovely hotel.

If you’ve visited pre Coronavirus expect the following changes:

There is no servicing of your room by housekeeping during your stay. You need to request fresh towels and refills to your tea tray which are left outside your door. The rooms are well presented and very clean on arrival. The capacity of the hotel is reduced but is gradually increasing.

Little touches that were part of the experience are no longer provided like canapés prior to dinner and petit fours afterwards with your after dinner coffee. We ordered newspapers which were not supplied.

You need to be aware of extra charges for cooked breakfasts (continental breakfast included). There is a one off charge for the excellent upgraded spa facilities which are well worth the money.

All in all an excellent approach to the new normal. However, being traditionalists the sooner the previous normal is restored the happier we will be. We miss the daily servicing of the rooms and the little touches that make Beech Hill truly special.

To start with a positive, the spa was amazing. Good safety measures are in place which also means you only have to share the facilities with a few other people. The steam room, sauna and pool were very clean and the outdoor jacuzzis We’re lovely and warm with amazing views.
However, the attention to detail was distinctly lacking throughout the Rest of the hotel. Peeling paint, a damp bathroom and curtains hanging off the rails were all disappointing features we were not anticipating given the four star rating and the price paid for the room.
There were discarded masks in the car park and the carpets had clearly not been hoovered for a while. One member of staff within the restaurant was also not wearing his mask correctly, approaching tables with his mask under his chin.
We were charged an additional £17.50 per person to use the spa facilities during our stay which is not clearly stated prior to arrival, despite having rang the hotel prior to arrival to check that the facilities were open.
The location of the hotel is very good, just a few minutes drive into the centre of Bowness on Windermere and overall the stay was comfortable but it really was difficult to justify the price paid. We wouldn’t stay there again.

Thank you for your recent review. It's great to read that overall you enjoyed your stay and were happy with the location of the hotel. We do benefit from being directly on the shores of the lake with stunning views whilst being only a short drive into the centre of Bowness. We appreciate your views on both our Lake view spa and the Covid safety procedures. We are proud of the Lake View Spa and are pleased that you were able to enjoy the views from our outdoor spa pools whilst feeling safe with the safety measures we have put in place. The spa access charge of £17.50 per person is for the duration of the stay. The reason for this charge is that not all of our guests wish to use the spa so we feel the access charge is the fairest way to operate. This is stated on all booking sites Please be assured that we take the Covid regulations seriously and all our staff must wear face covering when in public areas. We are unaware of any member of staff not wearing their mask correctly however please be assured we will investigate this further. Once again thank you for your comments. Kind Regards Nicola Zebryk Guest Relations

Exterior of building looked beyond shabby but decided to give benefit of doubt.

Looked at room which was as shabby as the outside. Wouldn’t have taken my shoes off to walk on the carpet

Balcony and furniture both scruffy

Receptionist very polite but spa was being refurbed with changing rooms and steam room out of order and dinner only served until 8 due to them being so quiet

Would advise them to get the rooms right before spa, no one will stay in a horrid room when there are some fabulous hotels near by.

Wouldn’t risk food here based on the lack of care to the rooms and building

We went to low wood!

The first thing I have to mention is the AMAZING view of the lake - we had a lake view room with a terrace and it was the best experience ever. The room itself was spacious (gigantic bed) and well equipped. My only complaint is that the shower could be hotter and more powerful - although my fiancé thought it was fine. Second, the restaurant was also top notch. My fiancé and I had dinner included with our room and it was well worth the extra cost. The restaurant really is the heart of the hotel and makes it what it is. The a la carte menu can change by the day and offers fresh dishes cooked perfectly. Service was also very good. Third, the spa was also great. It comprises an indoor pool, sauna and steam room and an outdoor jacuzzi which overlooks the lake - such a brilliant idea. We stayed in early January and it was so nice to relax outdoors whilst still being warm. The spa was also very close to our room which meant we could nip there and back in a jiffy without having to walk through reception. Finally it’s worth saying that we enjoyed the experience so much that we asked to extend our stay by one more night and were given a discounted rate for the extra night by the kind lady at reception. All in all, it was a wonderful stay and we will most certainly return 😊
Ciao.

Visited here with a friend Sun-Tues and found staff very helpful. We were in touch a lot before as it was a birthday and with Covid everything needs to be pre booked including spa slots (which you pay 17£ extra for and have seen some negative reviews of which yes it probably should be included in the stay but is also clearly stated) and we were impressed you can go more than once a day just not back to back as they sanitise in-between (I witnessed this) and you can also use once checked out which was nice. Slots are 1.5 hours which is plenty. My only criticism is some people obviously came to the wrong slot as some were way over capacity / busy meaning with limits on how many people can use you were sat around waiting. Beautiful spa facilities though and we had a treatment each and the therapist was lovely. Breakfast continental included we asked for hot chocolates off menu which were provided (very nice for a machine one) and plenty food, you get what you are given (photographed) rather than ordering but this is fine as you can ask for more of what you like etc. Can park out the front or round the back although wouldn’t recommend dragging your cases from the back when checking in as advised by the hotel. Lake front view even with the basic rooms which is appreciated and was spotlessly clean although no hangers in wardrobe and bath not sealed properly. We also had an afternoon tea which you had to pay 20£ extra for half bottle of Brut so we didn’t but the food was divine and we were accompanied by a rainbow. Would definitely visit again as a couple and driving into Bowness is easy to visit , lots of lovely restaurants but 10£ each way in a taxi from reception. Thanks Beech Hill

Just returned from a two night stay at the Beech Hill Hotel And Spa. We had previously stayed here 23 years ago. First impressions were good after entering the main reception area it looks as though it has recently been refurbished. We booked a standard room but were given a room with a lovely view of the lake. Unfortunately the rooms look very tired paint peeling, carpets very worn and bathroom in need of some re tiling. We were given menus to pre order for dinner, no problem with that, but there were a lot of supplements! Prior to dinner we had drinks in the bar and the staff were friendly and knowledgable. At dinner we felt that the restaurant lacked any atmosphere, the tables were arranged in such a way that you felt that you were sitting in an unused conference room with spare tables and chairs stored up not being used. There didn’t seem to be any one in charge, food was delicious, unfortunately the white wine was warm on both occasions and we were asked if we had pre ordered any dessert and what was our room number? All this information had been given via a pre ordered sheet? We had chosen a cheese board to share ( as there was a supplement for this ) and when this came all the cheeses were cold as if they’d come straight from the fridge. Nobody asked us at any point if we were enjoying our meal.

We did though enjoy the spa and it’s facilities ( glad that we had pre booked this ) again be aware that this is a supplement, we had a very good massage on day 2 and the therapist did her best to accommodate us both as one of the staff had to go home that morning.

Sadly we went out for dinner on the second evening to Bowness approximately £8 in a taxi both ways.

Overall a comfortable stay.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review following your recent stay with us. It was lovely to read that you enjoyed our new spa facilities. We are disappointed to read your comments regarding our restaurant service. We have had to change many aspects of how we work, due to the ongoing pandemic. The tables have been placed at least one meter apart to comply with social distancing measures, we understand this doesn't have the same previous feel however this is done for both staff and guests safety. We are pleased that overall you enjoyed your stay with us, and please be assured I will discuss all other issues with our Restaurant Manager. Thank you once again for all your comments and we hope to welcome you back to the hotel in the near future. Kind Regards Nicola Zebryk Guest Relations

We stayed here for a long week end in early October (2020) it was a transfered from May when we were origianally coming. Despite Covid we thoughly enjoyed the hotel and break. All staff were helpfull and friendly and wore masks at all times.
Our room had obviously been renovated it was really nice (43) with a balcony and lake view.
We have stayed here several timesover the years but not since the Poolarea (spa) had been revamped
we paid the extra and went every day (just pool, hot tub, steam room & sauna) and concidering the massive spent the hotel must have made to get it to the really nice upmarket spa it now is , it is good value espacially if you use it each day. Book on arrival or before if allowed (not sure) to ensure you get the times you want as only 6 couple per 1.5 hrs due to covid.
We were very happy with our conti breakfast (included in the price) and so did not try the full english (extra cost)
THe interior of the hotel had obviously had a mojor refurb new carpets etc and is looking good
WE will be back soon and the mixed weather does not put us off
If eating out in the evenings I would recoment booking a week berofe arriving as its always busy in Boness and Windermere (pos even more poeple doing staycations)

I was travelling back home from Bowness (very early in the morning), but was caught in the snow, so had to seek refuge at Beech Hill, which was the nearest hotel.
Staff were kind, friendly and professional and offered me hot drinks and a complimentary breakfast (which was tasty and fresh), gave me the WiFi code and said I could stay until the road was safe to pass.
Based on the kindness and generosity of the staff (and the beautiful grounds and hotel) I will return to stay at the hotel and will recommend to family (one of whom is already booking to stay later in the year, based on my experience this morning).
Thank you.

A very warm welcome a fantastic location with views over the lake we was shown to a room which wasn’t what we had paid for so very disappointing ,the manager Jonathan was informed and came personally to speak with us ,he explained due to the pandemic they had taken rooms off use to be upgraded and the room we where expecting was one of these ,Jonathon asked if we stayed in the first room the first night one of the rooms expected would be ready for us to move into the next morning ,which we agreed ,for our inconvenience he removed the charge for the first nights room and food bill which was very generous because we had a three course meal with wine booked We moved rooms the following morning and the room was absolutely lovely ,Jonathan and his team made sure our stay was first class .The dinner in the restaurant was excellent and was like a fine dining experience under difficult circumstances with Covid but first class food .the down side to the restaurant was breakfast service and food , you got asked if you would like tea or coffee the rest you where given with no choice ,so they came out with 2 OJ’s ,2 bowls with a box of cornflakes and a sachet of Alpen ,2 bowls of fresh fruit which mainly consisted of apple and not much else a rack of toast but not asked if brown or white bread was preferred and 2 croissants,we no sooner had this given that they bought out the cooked breakfast again no choice or able to leave things out ,so to me a lot food was being unnecessarily wasted .
We had a full body massage booked in the beautiful spa ,the massage was excellent by 2 very professional members of staff .The staff in the hotel where really polite and helpful especially one of the female members of the housekeeping staff ,sorry that we didn’t get her name and also Jonathan the general manager who made our stay excellent
