Property's Favourite Review
Stayed here recently for four nights. We don’t usually use a guest house as we prefer hotels, however so glad we found this one!
Parking available in front of the guest house (three spaces and more parking opposite) with great location for Windermere and Bowness which both have a great selection of bars and restaurants only ten minutes each direction.
Great room (number 11) spacious with a really lovely bright en suite.
Plenty of information regarding walks, restaurants etc.
Unbelievable breakfasts available, just message your order through before 6.30pm. Disappointed we couldn’t try them all! However a must is the chilli fried bread, amazing!
Thanks to Rich, Ada and the team for a great stay, would definitely recommend and will return when we visit the lakes next!

During lockdown, while tidying up we discovered a letter acknowledging receipt of the deposit we paid to St. John's Lodge for our honeymoon 35 years ago in 1985. So with the benefit of the modern 'interweb' thingy we looked it up and discovered that not only is it still there it is a highly rated hotel. So we booked a 4 night stay in September and it very much lived up to that billing.

It's in a perfect location between Windermere and Bowness, 5-10 minutes walk from either up or down the hill, with lovely rooms full of little little touches, wonderful hosts and an amazing breakfast selection.

The location is also an excellent base to explore further into the Lake District, on foot or by car. Couldn't recommend it more highly.

Booked direct with Rich for a better deal, from the out set he couldn't do enough for us. Great location between Bowness & Windermere, 10 min gentle stroll to either locations. Met on arrival by Rich who helped with free safe parking. From the outset covid measures are apparent and plenty of hand sanitisers dotted around the establishment. Booking in was a relaxed friendly atmosphere & Rich is very helpful & informative about the area. We were shown to our room which was exceptionally clean, beautiful decor & all your wants & needs. Including a safe, mini fridge & high quality toiletries. Lovely extra touches like the Swan towels & petals. Bed was very comfortable & good selection of hot beverages in the room, which were replenished daily. The breakfast menu is extensive & delicious, and covers all dietary requirements. The hot food is made fresh to order & presented beautifully. Courtney can't do enough for you, very friendly & attentive.
So all in all wonderful B & B many thanks

We stayed for 4 nights in Oct and booked 3 rooms at St Johns lodge, All 3 rooms were beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean, well equipped, comfortable to sleep in and toasty warm for after a long walk.

Rich and his team made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast choices were fab and able to cope well with those in the group that were veggie or vegan and all freshly cooked. Easily the most delicious scrambled eggs I’ve ever eaten, and you could have your eggs with full English, avocado, bacon, spinach or smoked salmon - whatever took your fancy!

The hotel is perfectly located between Windermere village and Bowness village just a few minutes walk to either for access to all their shops, pubs, restaurants and of course the Lake. Lovely walks straight out from the hotel or a short drive away.

Plenty of parking at or opposite the hotel. And a garden area with seating for guests.

All Covid precautions in place and to enable staggered breakfast times to keep social distancing in place we pre ordered our hot breakfast choices the night before and selected a breakfast slot. We visit the Lakes annually and will definitely be back at St Johns Lodge.

My wife and I visited last month for a couple of nights on a Woucher deal. This effectively meant that we paid £150 for 2 nights. At that price this B&B represents reasonably good value for money but there is a tremendous amount of competition in the area. We were very warmly greeted upon our arrival and asked whether we'd visited the area before. We were given maps and leaflets and the area and what if had to offer explained with any further help offered. In the room there is a book on the B&B which helpfully has recommendations of local restaurants/Bistros etc. We tried a couple of them during our stay and I can say without fear of contradiction that the suggestions in the book are most helpful. We were given room 10 which is on the top floor. The room is very tastefully decorated although we found it a little small (larger rooms are available). It had the usual tea/coffee making facilities, flat screen TV etc. The en-suite was down 3-4 steps, not something I'd want to try in the middle of the night after a few pints. This was clean with a good range of toiletries. The breakfast in the morning (which you have to pre-order the night before) was exceptional and by far the most comprehensive choice of any hotel or B&B I've stayed at in the UK. The breakfast menu runs to 3 pages and there is something to suit any dietary requirement. This ranges from full English, Kippers, smoked salmon and scrambled egg, the choice of menu items just goes on and on. In addition to this there is a buffet table with fresh fruit juices, fresh fruit cereals etc. The service again at breakfast was excellent. Would I return again, definitely as soon as this awful pandemic is over.

Have previously only stayed in hotels in this area, but after staying at St Johns Lodge this would always be my first and only choice now. The welcome, service and attention from Rich was lovely. He was extremely helpful with his knowledge of the area and choice of restaurants to visit locally. The bedroom (or more like a suite) was amazing, The whole place was so clean and tidy (no wiping your finger down a rail here and finding any dust!!!!!).
The choice of breakfast was incredible, lovely fresh fruit and bacon and eggs you can actually taste.
This small but amazing B&B was far superior to a lot of the 4 star hotels and the position between Windermere and Bowness make for great walking to both villages. Cannot recommend highly enough, we will undoubtedly be back.

Could not fault this lovely guest house, the service and staff. Very friendly, lots of local knowledge and a fantastic breakfast. The room was a cosy double which was ideal for us, absolutely spotless and decorated to a very high standard. Little touches like a small fridge in the room, tea and coffee etc, even a bottle opener and wine glasses. The hosts have certainly put a lot of thought into making their guests stay a special one. We would definitely return and recommend to others. The location was also great, 5 mins walk into Windermere and around 10 mins walk into Bowness.

We booked this hotel as a last minute getaway for 2 nights.
Really reasonably priced compared to some of the other hotels hiking up prices.
Lovely welcome by the owner Rich who recommended some walk trails and restaurants for us to try.
Gorgeous little cosy double, very comfortable bed, slept like a log both nights.
Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice.
This hotel is situated in a great location, a short 10-15 minute walk to the lake.

The owner Rich was super helpful throughout and even dried all our waterproofs out after we returned from a particularly wet walk on Aira Force so they were all dry for the next day.
Thanks for everything, we will definitely return!!

Just returned home from an amazing 3 night break at st johns lodge. The owner Rich is very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for his guests. My husband is vegan and he accommodated his breakfast well even went and got additional items for him. Breakfast was gorgeous and their a varied choice for all tastes. St johns lodge is kept immaculately clean both walkways and bedroom. The bedroom has miniature toiletries to meet every need, a mini fridge sparkling and still water, tea and coffee facilities and hairdryer. I would not hesitate to stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking on a stay in the Lake District. You have the added bonus of the health club for free includes swimming and gym. The guest house is located between pretty bowness and windermere up the hill and has good walks nearby which the owner can give information on. Looking forward to going the lake’s again and would definitely stay here

What a fantastic stay we had with Rich and his lovely colleagues at St John’s lodge. It is in the perfect location to walk into Windermere or into Bowness and is easy to get to with parking on the property or very close by. We stayed in the cosy double room which was made up lovely upon our arrival at 11:30 and was spotless and clean. The room has a little dressing area, a great bathroom, a very comfortable double bed and even a little fridge! All the decoration is lovely and we just felt at home straight away. The bed is extremely comfortable and so quiet we slept very well. There is a three page menu for breakfast and you just let Rich know what you’d like the night before and he will sort it for you in the morning. We had different breakfasts each morning and they were all exceptional and delicious. Plenty to choose from the cold breakfasts too and a variety of fruit juices and tea and coffee. Rich was very informative, giving us information about where to visit and what local walks and attractions we could do in our stay. The food we had at local restaurants was amazing and I would definitely recommend hiring a rowing and motor boat on Windermere! So much fun. We had an excellent stay and have already booked to come again and can’t wait to come back! Thank you so much for our incredible stay.

Hi, I'm replying to this question as it has been directed to me through TripAdvisor. However, I only stayed at the lodge I'm not the owner. Not sure what's going wrong with the direction of information, but thought would let you know your question doesn't appear to be getting passed on to the right people. Best of luck! Weedink24 Glasgow
