Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent stay, it did everything as promised and in a great position between Windermere and Bowness. A lovely addition with the off site spa entry which we used and was easy. Would recommend and also look to stay again if in the area.

Property's Favourite Review
Stayed here recently for four nights. We don’t usually use a guest house as we prefer hotels, however so glad we found this one! Parking available in front of the guest house (three spaces and more parking opposite) with great location for Windermere and Bowness which both have a great selection of bars and restaurants only ten minutes each direction. Great room (number 11) spacious with a really lovely bright en suite. Plenty of information regarding walks, restaurants etc. Unbelievable breakfasts available, just message your order through before 6.30pm. Disappointed we couldn’t try them all! However a must is the chilli fried bread, amazing! Thanks to Rich, Ada and the team for a great stay, would definitely recommend and will return when we visit the lakes next!

Excellent place to stay. The room was cozy and comfortable. Breakfast had multiple cold options and you could choose a hot option too. Services like Gym, swimming pool etc can be availed in a different place for free. During check in, manager Rich gave a brief overview of the lake district and places of interest and gave a map with all details.

We stayed here for 2 nights in a cosy room. Second time we have stayed & even better than the first. Had everything we needed, the breakfast was amazing with so much choice & very tasty (24 hot options plus everything on hand for fresh buffet choices). Location is great, based right in the middle between Bowness and Windermere with free parking so handy to walk either way. Made use of the Choices Leisure facilities off-site which was a lovely added extra with the pool, jacuzzi, steam room & sauna. Would definitely recommend to get in touch direct & discuss your needs. So friendly, welcoming & happy to help with suggestions for places to visit. Really good value for money.

We stayed as a couple for 4 nights during half term. We were well cared for by Rich and his team in this lovely, clean and welcoming guest house. Our room was comfortable, breakfast menu was extensive and excellent quality and the health club (no need to pay to park just put your reg into the computer in reception) was a lovely way to end a busy day hiking. Tip: If like us you are not used to traffic noise at night you may wish to specify you would prefer a room away from the busy road when making your booking (this was our error but Rich was very gracious in offering a different room or an upgrade which we happily paid for when we were shown room 3).

I would highly recommend this hotel. It is perfectly situated a short walk to Bowness and Windermere, with lots of excellent places to eat and drink. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the owners make you feel so welcome and the breakfasts are amazing. We used the spa facility at a nearby leisure centre which was a lovely way to relax for a few hours after all the walking. We will definitely visit again.

Soon as we arrived we were greeted at the door and given our keys to the guest house. The owner was a great chef with his full englishes we couldn’t get enough of. He also give us a route to drive around the lake district as we wanted to explore and the views on this recommendation were amazing. He also gave us knowledge on the best places to eat, places to do activities & whatever you want to do where you can go which was helpful. Highly recommend staying here the room was immaculate and nicely presented and the food is unbeatable as you have limitless fruit yoghurt cereal and hot drinks to compliment your choice of cooked breakfast. The location is also great ; right by a village with italian restaurants and lovely pubs it was a 2 min drive for us to have a nice date night at a lovely restaurant. Thank you to the owner who cares very much for his business and the customer experience it was a great time at the lodge.

Have just returned from a 3 night reunion with my 2 sisters and their husbands at St John’s Lodge, throughly enjoyed our stay which even the rain could not dampen, our room (a king) was really lovely and the bathroom was spacious. Breakfasts were excellent, we were spoilt for choice. St John’s Lodge is well situated and just a short walk to restaurants in Bowness.
