Me and my friend stayed here for 3 nights and it was great. Anita and Denis are excellent hosts and I can honestly say it was some of the best service I have ever received. I will definitely be staying with them again :)

The room was a twin room and had two very comfy beds in it and there was always fresh bottles of water and homemade cookies in the room.

The breakfast was always delicious from their full English to their bagels and I even had a taster of the Caribbean breakfast which was something I had never had before and was very yummy.

They are also in a really convenient location, in the centre of Windermere with easy walks to the Lake.

Their place is one of a kind and I can’t wait to stay with them again soon :)

Thank you Anita and Denis!!

The Archway guesthouse is in a perfect location in the centre of Windermere and just a 15 minute walk from Bowness-on-Windermere. The views from the front patio are amazing! Anita and Denis who run the guesthouse are so friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. They kindly moved us from a twin room on our first night to the ‘Coniston’ for our remaining two nights. The room is at the top with fabulous views and a huge bathroom! On arrival we were offered a slice of homemade lemon drizzle cake - delicious! In the rooms is a jar in which Anita puts homemade cookies which we looked forward to on our return from a long day of walking! The breakfast was delicious, thank you Denis!! All in all I would say staying at the Archway made our break to the lakes very special, we look forward to returning in the future.

Anita and Dennis are excellent hosts. Stayed at the Archways twice after ten days of staying at Inns and BnB’s on a walking holiday. Our room had the best modern equipped en-suite bathroom of any of them with a hot bath where you could soak with a cup of tea and piece of Anita’s homemade cake, and look out at a view of the fells after a gruelling day’s walk. The morning starts with a choice of a Caribbean breakfast or full English to set you up for the day. All in all a very comfortable room and warm and excellent service.

The Archway guesthouse is well situated in the centre of Windermere within a few minutes walking distance of all shops, bars and restaurants. The building itself is beautiful and typical of the Lakes District. Parking is free outside too. The hosts, Denis and Anita are extremely welcoming and friendly. Anything you need, or need to know, they will try their hardest to help you.
We stayed in the “Windermere” room which had a beautiful view of the mountains (before the horrendous storm Ciara hit and we could no longer see them!). A well equipped and most comfortable room. We both slept like babies and did not want to get up, although we knew our breakfast was waiting for us!
Breakfast was pre ordered the night before for a 8.45am. (Fab idea to pre-order, we thought) Breakfast was served in the lovely dining room underneath our bedroom, so therefore had the same amazing views(or would have without storm Ciara!) There was a choice of fruit juices, water, fresh fruit and yoghurt, cereals, of which some were home made. Then came the pre ordered cooked breakfast. We chose a typical English cooked breakfast though there were quite a few other options too. Lovely quality breakfast with toast and jam, tea, coffee, hot chocolate or hot milk. Nothing was an effort to Denis or Anita.
All in all, we both had a fabulous stay in the lakes, made all the better by Denis and Anita’s friendliness.
We will definitely be back to stay at The Archway Guesthouse, hopefully in better weather conditions!

Your review has made a huge positive difference on a stormy and rainy day! Thank you so much Julie and Derek for your wonderful and elaborate review. We are happy that despite the weather you liked what we have to offer and we also enjoyed having you here. What a pity that storm Ciara spoiled the mountain views from your room, but at least you got a glimpse of it and hopefully you will return one day to enjoy the entire view :-) Thank you for your compliments regarding your stay with us. Denis is pleased that you both enjoyed his breakfast. Glad to hear that you reached home safely. We are looking forward to hosting you both again! Please remember to book through our website for the best rate. Best wishes, Denis and Anita

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the ‘Coniston’ room which was very cosy, had a great bath and walk-in shower and beautiful views of the fells. Anita and Denis were lovely and always helpful and attentive. A variety of breakfast options were all delicious. We would definitely recommend the guest house to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Windermere. The location is on a quiet street but a minute away from several cafes and restaurants, and about a 15/20 minute walk into Bowness as well. Limited private parking was also available which was a big help, but there are good transport links available too. We would definitely visit again!

I would recommend The Archway to anyone the best B&B I’ve ever stayed in by a long shot. The home baked cookies were delicious and the Caribbean breakfast was the best start I’ve had to any day.

The warm welcome was a really nice touch also had some great conversation there is a lot of story behind the decoration in the B&B really lovely home feeling about it.

The location was very central to many of the beautiful locations and walks that Windermere has to offer. We can’t wait to go back next year and do it all over again.

I’ve attached an image of the view from our room which was “Conniston” it was absolutely stunning the picture doesn’t do it justice it looked unbelievable in person.

Thank you so much HappyCamper for your fantastic review. It is a good start of 2020 to read that you enjoyed your stay with us. What a beautiful picture of the view from your room (Coniston). Thank you for posting that. You are correct that there are many walks to enjoy in the Lake District and the views are stunning. Orrest Head is a good view point in Windermere itself, literally at 5 mins. walk from us. Thanks for all your compliments and we are looking forward to having you here again another time. Just returned from a Friday to Monday weekend away in the Lakes. Whilst we had stayed 2 nights very close to Bowness we decided to have 1 nights stay in Windermere. The extra night was a last minute thing and we are glad we did.

We found The Archway Guesthouse through Hotel.com. It turned out a fabulous night stay from start to finish. On meeting Anita & Denis on arrival it was a personably and warm welcome. Our room was pleasant, clean and spacious with a spectacular view of the mountains from the front window. There was free wifi, complimentary water, lovely toiletries and fresh, clean towels.

The room was exceptionally quiet with just the National Parks ‘Dawn Chorus’ to listen to. The recommendations from our hosts on places to eat and drink was invaluable. We booked in at Tapios, which turned out to be some of the best Tapas we have experienced outside of Barcelona. The restaurant offered a discount to guests at The Archway, it is certainly worth a visit.

Our breakfast in the morning was delicious and plentiful with lots of choice, although, we wish we had tried the Caribbean Breakfast.

Overall, our stay was exceptional, just a pity we hadn’t booked for longer. Anita and Denis are very knowledgeable of the area as well as being very friendly and chatty, which makes for a very relaxing stay.

This is a little gem we will certainly be returning to in the future and we will be trying the ‘penthouse suite’ with walk-in shower and bath.

Great guest house. Excellent Location, Fantastic Host!

We stayed here for a 3 day get away and couldnt have asked for a better place! We arrived early and were greated by Anita who kindly let us leave our bags there while the rooms were being cleaned. Very warm welcome with her giving us directions of a nice quiet walk to get to windermere lake to avoid the busy walk.

When we came back our bags were in the room with freshly baked cookies waiting and lemon drizzle cake! (Both amazing)

Breakfast was great and really sets up up for the day. Anita was very informative if the area and had suggestions of how we can spend our time which we took and went on a nice walk to Wray Castle.

We mentioned one morning that we were kayaking. We came back after a big day, achy and we had radox muscle soak put in the bathroom for us to use which we thought was extremely thoughtful!

Great views from the room, great converations from the hosts and would recommend anyone who is coming to the lakes to stay here!

Thanks again for having us!

Liked · Wonderful hosts, very welcoming. Location right in centre of Windermere, walk out of the door and into the hustle and bustle of the village with its many pubs and restaurants. It was also a lovely short downhill walk into Bowness with one straight road. Breakfast was very tasty - the best we have had in any B&B or hotel. It was the little things where you could see everything had been thought about - make up mirror in the room, dressing table, two chairs with a lovely view to sit and have a cup of tea, teapot, cotton make up removal pads, snacks on arrival, extension leads, hairdryer, extra duvets. Little things that just make your stay easier that most people take for granted. Felt very safe and secure, with an internal lock on the door of your room also for extra privacy. You can tell the hosts take great pride in making their guests feel at home - even taking the time to remember everyone’s name. We had an excellent stay and will be back.

The best B&B that I have ever stayed at, clean, Anita and her husband are amazing hosts and all the time willing to help you and feel like home. The breakfast is gorgeous and delicious. We had the Coniston room the views from the bedroom or bathroom they look like they are out of a painting. The only regret that we have is that we have not booked an extra day or two.

Yes, wifi reception is good. Archway is down the hill a bit from the railway station, but certainly in reasonable walking distance -- maybe about ten minutes. You have to cross a street or two, but it's mostly on sidewalks, so you could even roll a suitcase.
