Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Difficult to rate as we had 3 different rooms. One had been updated by the new owners but the other 2 hadn't and were dated. Checked in early with no fuss and new owners seemed nice. Given time I am sure it will be a good hotel and at the price we paid we couldn't really complain

The stay was alright, we had a family room which was pretty tiny but beds were comfy enough and there was a toilet, sink and teas and coffees which was nice.
However the room was really grubby. The carpet needed a thorough hoovering, there were skid marks in the loo and bogies from someone's nose wiped on the wall by the bed. The window sill was also pretty grimy from condensation.
The towels were hand towels as well so could not have a shower as there were o towels big enough... I was not about to walk from the shared bathroom wearing a hand towel.
This place is still ok for a budget night stay for a night out in Blackpool but not for much longer.

The hotel is under new management and they are fantastic! We saw improvements in the decor/facilities in just the short time we stayed. One of the lowest priced hotels in Blackpool and yet the service is first class. We had plenty of hot beverage supplies, and some bonus complimentary biscuits too. There were shampoo/conditioner, body wash and soaps neatly presented on our beds upon arrival. The bedding is lovely and clean and ironed. The managers and staff were so accommodating, made us feel very welcome and frequently asked if we had everything we needed. The only downside is that the hotel is a little dated in some areas and there are some bad finishes in hallways and bathrooms. The current managers were working non stop to correct these and also modernise some older parts of the hotel. The bathrooms on first look seem to be a little scruffy, mainly due to untidy sealant and grout but they are immaculately clean and well stocked. In fact the lady manager had the shower heads soaking in bleach when we arrived early for checking in :). The communal bathrooms were cleaned frequently throughout the day, with bath and shower mats replaced and toilet rolls restocked. We really would have expected to pay more for the level of service and hospitality we received. We will definitely stay again and actually can't wait to see the changes over the next few months. Big thanks to all the staff who made our stay very comfortable.

Booked in for 3 nights and what a serious mistake. Filthy and stinking bathrooms, bathroom light switch held together by duct tape, room door seriously damaged, holes in wall, stained curtains, dirty and unchanged bedding, tvs not working,no breakfast provided, stained carpets and furniture, light failure which manager was unconcerned about, rubbish on hallway floor, nails sticking up off bathroom floor and freezing cold rooms. We visit Blackpool regularly and have never seen anything in this state. This place needs a visit from environmental health and/or Gordon Ramsey or Alex polizzi. We really did not feel that we were at all safe in this property

Dingy, soulless room, bobbly bedding that's long past its best, sink in the bedroom because there's nowhere for it in the shower room, grubby furnishings and a foot long clothes rail made of rough 4x2 timber are just some of the things that will disappoint you in this dire so-called hotel and all for just £103 through booking.com. The shower is functional but set so high as to be uncomfortable for anyone under 6 foot 4, plus there are no lights in the cubicle. There is no fire notice in the room on the door where it ought to be. The bathroom blind is ripped as if it tried to commit ritual Japanese suicide. Forget sleeping in late as the standard clientele here is loud, inconsiderate 'lads' banging doors and shouting at all hours. We didn't do breakfast. If it is anything like the standard of the room I'd sooner not. Go elsewhere and get much better value for money. In fact stay outside the town and drive in for the evening.

6 of us stayed for 1 night and on arrival we were told that 1 of our 3 rooms was not available even though we had already paid for it! But she would get another ready for us then told us later that she kicked someone out for wetting the bed (nice) so our back up room was now not available neither which I’m glad about!
We were eventually given a room which had a box of empty Budweiser bottles on the floor and bottles everywhere around the room. There was a mug on the sink with what looked like beer in it but It could of been anything ew
The bedding was dirty there was blood on the walls and some weird foam ceiling that people had wrote there names in.
All the windows were sweaty curtains were seriously filthy and I think the hoover sat in the stairs is just an ornament
None of the taps in our rooms worked I had to go 3 floors down to brush my teeth
I’ve been in loads of cheap b+bs and I don’t expect much but this is definitely the worst
I will be avoiding this place definitely

Don't come to this hotel, it's horrible. Bad smell, a lot of noise, dirty, beds in poor condition. I'm disappointed . There is a pub downstair, lots of noise, people shouting. It's true that the prices are cheap, but it's not worth coming here.

Just stayed at the merlin. My daughter Kelly and I stayed the night. We were made to feel really welcome by Tracy and sam. Nothing was to much trouble. The room was good for the size and cheap. Clean beds and a kettle for my coffee so I can't moan. Thanku for a lovely stay x
