Detailed Reviews
The best weekend we’ve ever had, especially given it’s the most miserable time of the year.
We were extremely lucky to have fallen upon this lovely little gem of a hotel. From the cleanliness and comfort of the bedroom to the hot water always on tap and the shower, to the home made cooked food that was hearty, comforting, well cooked and the pristine white table cloths and attentive waiter service with a smile. The staff here are trained to put the customer at the heart of everything they do. They are polite, clean, attentive and remember your needs, they also look happy at their work, no rudeness or miserable faces, just a perfect team. It was nice not to have to repeat my preferences, such as coffee drinkers and white toast, these were remembered, a sign that staff training pays you back in dividends when applied. Some other businesses could take up some tips here. But this is a family run business who take pride in their work instead of extracting from you every last penny, old fashioned values raises the whole atmosphere in this hotel. Please note : the food here is traditional English home made food, no frozen rubbish, all made from scratch, hearty and comforting.
There are no stag or hen nights here, more your Marks & Spencer clientele rather than Home Bargains, if you get the gist?
People dress for dinner, ready for the top notch entertainment that caters for everyone, 30 to 90 year olds.
There is also a dearth of trips you can choose from to suit everyone.
We’ve booked our next trip to the Grand National in April.
Best of all there’s NO KIDS!!!!!
We arrived as strangers and left with many friends, if you want to make new memories and new friends, this is the place for you.
If you want to come alone, that’s fine, you won’t leave without making new friendships. No one is lonely here.
Give it a go, you’d be surprised.

Just back from a 4-night Tinsel & Turkey at the Elgin. Stayed at this hotel a number of times now. The main reason for our going back is the Entertainment Manager Maria Adams but more about her later. Our Room – 344 – never again. So small only one of us could get dressed at a time ! Lack of plug sockets and the 3 there were in impossible to use places. The very small dressing table held the kettle and drinks tray, the hotel brochures, a hairdryer that was not compatible with the holder screwed on the wall so was constantly in the way and gave very little space for anything else. Sat on the stool to dry hair and it was so low (or mirror high) that all I could see was the very top of my head. Had to complain about the cleanliness of the shower cubicle and even showed them a video of my scraping the shower head gunk off! Following morning the shower head was replaced and a deep clean done on the shower along with new grouting to remove mould-stained old stuff, dealt with quickly but these things should be picked up and not wait for complaints. Have had much better rooms before so would say it’s a bit hit and miss what you get. There are many regulars who request the same rooms on repeat bookings so sometimes you are lucky – sometimes not so.
Food – Restaurant food was quite good, small portions but you can request bigger if you want to. Bar snacks (sandwiches, tea, coffee etc) these are ok but could be better – toasties with minimal fillings could be looked at and this time we were charged £7.50 for a pot of tea for 3 …… we got 1 tea bag…. so, you can imagine what that looked like! Sorted again but I had to go into kitchen and request more tea bags – spoils it a little as not hard to get right in 1st place. We did find the staff member taking the orders for sandwiches got easily flustered and was a little curt on occasion. You may wonder reading the above what makes us go back to the Elgin…. Well, it’s the Entertainment. We always have a brilliant time at the Elgin. The artists are very good but go often and you will see same ones again. This time we had Steve compèring a couple of nights and he was very dry but funny. Other days we had the mini tornado aka Maria. Her energy and enthusiasm are amazing, she is funny and so friendly to everyone. Will we be going back, most definitely but we can honestly say that should Maria ever leave the ‘special’ atmosphere we really enjoy at the Elgin would leave with her but whilst they have her… they have our returning custom 2 or 3 times a year.

Dear Carrol Many thanks for your review and particularly for your complements with regards to Maria and the Entertainment. We certainly pride ourselves on a good friendly atmosphere created by team members and guests alike – we very much are a ‘People Place’. Apologies again for the showerhead in your room – we’ve obviously missed this on our bedrooms checks. New grouting was on the list for winter refurbs but with hindsight we should have brought this forward. The hotel was built in the 1930s and it has to be said that several of our hotel bedrooms are small. The room you were in is one of the smallest. This does mean the dressing table tops can be a bit crowded. I will certainly take a closer look at the stool/mirror height and the hairdryer fixing. Many thanks for bringing these things to our attention. If you do have a favourite room from a previous visit, please do ask for this at time of booking. We very much look forward to welcoming you back for a future stay where will try to give you 100% satisfaction. If you would like to drop me an email (nigel@elginhotel.com) before your arrival, I will ‘double check’ that all is in order. Please be assured that we do appreciate your feedback. Experience shows that we learn more from our mistakes than our successes. Kind Regards and Best Wishes for the Festive Season, Nigel

My wife and I have just had a brilliant stay at the Elgin. We found the hotel immaculately clean with staff who were welcoming with lovely smiles. We had an unavoidable problem with our room - a move to a different room. This went smoothly due to the professional action of Becky. The food was presented and served by well dressed waiters who worked so efficiently. The chef needs congratulating on offering a wonderful variation of tasty hot food. Addressing the comment the hotel being like a care home, 99% of the guests enjoyed the superb entertainment with fun and laughter ringing out of both Cabaret rooms. I hope the tasteless sausage and the brick wall hasn’t put you off giving the Elgin another chance. You could maybe join in the fun and laughter.
Ann and Alan very happy not so old couple.

We chose the Elgin as the venue to celebrate our Golden wedding anniversary and we weren't disappointed. From checking in to checking out the whole experience was fantastic. Every member of staff went out of their way to be helpful, especially Arek in the dining room who made sure that all 20 of our party were seated together and who definitely went the extra mile. One of our party is gluten intolerant and every member of the dining room staff was aware and made sure the gluten-free options were made available. The bar staff were incredibly hardworking and friendly. The housekeeping staff kept our rooms absolutely spotless, the beds were made every day and fresh towels supplied.
The standard of food in the restaurant, despite having only a few choices on the menu is amazing. The helpings are substantial and the quality of the food itself is excellent - no cheap cuts here!
Overall the Elgin made our anniversary a very special and memorable celebration.

The Elgin Hotel in Blackpool is a gem on the Queen's Promenade. This 3-star hotel offers a delightful stay with its 89 en-suite bedrooms, ranging from standard to Club Executive rooms, some even featuring TVs in the bathroom. The hotel has been recognised as a Lancashire Tourism Awards Finalist multiple times and won in 2019
Most guests Including My Wife and I consistently praise the Elgin Hotel for its friendly and accommodating staff, who go the extra mile to ensure a pleasant stay. The hotel's commitment to customer service is evident in the numerous amounts of returning guests, some of which we know from previous visits
The location is another highlight, with excellent transport links to Blackpool Town Centre, Cleveleys, and Fleetwood. The hotel also offers free parking, WiFi, and many all-inclusive deals throughout the year which are value for money,
We were there in early January and will be returning there shortly.

Our holiday was long over due, my 90yr old dad, hadn't been away for a number of years, so we decided to do a 5 day, 4 night all inclusive at the Elgin Hotel, Blackpool which had been recommended by friends. As this hotel had only been rated as a 2* we didn't know what to expect although the recommendation and photos of the bedroom on the website were good enough for us. We arrived at our destination 12 June '23 and was very impressed with this fine establishment, my dad has a walking aid and was able to wheel up the ramp to the front entrance. We didn't have long to wait to check in and get our room keys. My daughter helped us with the cases and dropped us in our room, of which she was very impressed with the bijou look of the room the soft furnishings were beautiful, which matched with the chairs in the room too. We did a quick turn around and went to explore our accommodation. There are two lovely bar areas [Stan's & Jimmy's] where there is nightly bingo and entertainment. The all inclusive drinks are branded names, which was great to see. They have two break out areas with wonderful opulent seating areas, where you can catch up with friends or read and both overlooking the sea. We went back to our room and got ready for the evening meal, which was waiter service and 4 courses. The food was excellent, we didn't have one day where we didn't enjoy, excellent work Chef and staff. Although the waiter/waitresses were run off there feet, they were so cheerful and helpful. We moved into Jimmy's bar where we played bingo and was entertained by x 2 artists, whom were fabulous. They also have a fab seating area outside with lovely grey slated tables and grey matching wicker chairs. Perfect for watching the sun set. On our stay we ventured into Cleveleys on the tram, it was very full but we managed with the walking aid as there was room for them, it was a lovely day out, we also had a day out in Blackpool, we went by bus and could use our bus passes. The trams run more frequently and are more convenient. [Tram and Bus stops within short walking distance from the hotel] We have had a fabulous few days, the staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for you, the lady who takes your orders at lunchtime was run off her feet and the weather was scorching but she kept pleasant all the time. The concierge who took your bags was so busy but still had a smile on his face. A big thank you to you all at the Elgin, especially the security guard, we will be back, George you are a happy chappy, keep smiling. I will look at the star review in a different light now, for your star status to rise you have to have certain facilities, for example, trouser press, iron etc . Not how clean and sumptuous a place looks. .

Dear Karen Many thanks for your very kind and extensive review – it really is much appreciated. We’re delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your stay and take great encouragement from your feedback. We are in fact a 3 Star hotel but as you say a lot this relates to amenities rather than service and ‘personality’ – we really are a ‘people place’. Your complements about the food and the staff are well received – these comments are always great for team morale. I do hope we can welcome you back in the not too distant future. Brilliant wee cosy hotel. Staff so welcoming and friendly on reception ( early check in was really worth it) The food was amazing so compliments to the chef and all the kitchen team. Arek and the servers were all amazing and so helpful, Room was so lovely and cosy with everything thought off to assist if you get cold or too warm ( had a fan and heater to select from to use). So thank you to the house keeping team. )
It was a tribute weekend so saw a Billy Fury act thought he sounded really good no idea who the actual singer is but dad said if you closed your eyes it was like listening to the actual guy - hes the big fan so I will go with that) . The second night we had this awesome singer who was so funny too Aideen...fantastic act but dont wear mascara unless it is waterproof :) she is fabulous . This was followed by a live singing Drag act again brilliant to see such an act here and to finish this night off ( yes it was three acts) it was this tribute to Frankie Valli and what a voice and such a lovely person, who actualy stopped on his way out to chat to my dad and I as we only said bye - but he just recognised our accents and was telling us he is performing there very polite young man . Dear Amre Many thanks for your fabulous and comprehensive review – we’ve never cheerleader poms poms before - love it! Really good to read how much you enjoyed the entertainment, not least the lively and varied Saturday night line-up. As you may recall the initial headline singer fell ill, but our agent Lynda played a blinder in finding replacements. Many thanks also for all your complements regarding ‘The Team’. We very much believe that a hotel is only as good as those that work there, and we’re very fortunate to have such a great bunch of people working (and staying!) here. Hopefully see you soon in our ‘wee cosy hotel’. Send our regards to Scotland – we will be heading up to the West Coast next May! Warm Regards, Nigel and All at the Elgin

Pleasantly surprised. At first sight we were worried as at the time of our stay we were a separate generation but what a great stay with amazing guests , we all gelled and had a laugh. The Hotel was spotless staff friendly , professional and helpful, nothing was ever too much trouble at all.
Food was excellent, they have great system set up for those of us who have food allergies. You certainly don’t go hungry and they accommodate smaller and larger appetites.
The disabled friendly rooms are spacious, wet rooms well proportioned and equipped. The lift is big enough to get a larger power chair in.
I would advise if you are a wheelchair user take the chance of the early check in this will benefit you greatly.
The entertainment is every night is excellent and runs quite late but well worth staying up for.
The drinks at the bar are reasonably priced and you never wait long to get one thanks to the hard working bar staff.
They even do a day trip inclusive in your stay should you want to go.
It is an older building which is constantly being updated and modernised with little or no impact on a guests stay. It was nice seeing that it was being cared for and not being given up.
I really hope we get a chance to return for another break here.

Visited the Elgin between 13th and 17th February on an all inclusive, coach midweek break with friends from our local pub in Cleethorpes.
We was greeted on arrival and told that our rooms were ready for us, after a very speedy check in by the lovely reception ladies, we were given our all inclusive wristbands and told how to get to our room.
Our suitcases were brought up to our room and left outside our doors, which is a brilliant gesture by the hotel.
We went into jimmy’s bar and ordered drinks, the all inclusive consisted of Carlsberg lager, Tetley bitter and all the usual branded spirits, anything not covered by the all inclusive had a £1:20 surcharge.
The bar staff always had a smile and very bubbly, providing a brilliant service. The service was always prompt considering the amount of people was staying in the hotel.
The breakfast and evening meals were lovely and again, I couldn’t fault the choice of food and service from the hard working and efficient restaurant team.
The room was comfortable and had everything you needed for your stay.
The housekeeping came in every day and exchanged your towels and replenished the tea and coffee tray, again I couldn’t fault anything from the hard working staff.
Entertainment was provided every evening with 2 different entertainers and also bingo and a quiz. The compare was absolutely hilarious and kept everyone entertained.
All in all we all had a very good break and couldn’t fault anything with the hotel.
Keep up the great work Elgin and look forward to seeing you again.
If you are visiting Blackpool for a holiday, I don’t think you could choose a better place to stay than the Elgin.
Definitely 5/5 👍♥️

Excellent hotel with lovely staff who care for their guests .
Great entertainment. If the weather is bad out you don't need to leave.
Tip if going into blackpool get the bus . The buses are clean and free for pensioners or £2 each which is £1:20 cheaper than the tram and also less crowded and you will get a seat .
