Winstanley House Hotel garners appreciation for its cleanliness, with numerous guests describing the rooms as spotless and praising the pristine condition of the restaurant. While the hotel's amenities generally receive positive remarks for comfort and quality, some visitors suggest there's room for enhancement. Experiences with the rooms are polarized, facing off commendations for their cleanliness against criticisms of maintenance. The service, too, is a mixed bag, oscillating between praised professionalism and disappointing sluggishness. Despite the hotel's inviting atmosphere, several travelers express discontent with the value, pointing to the mismatch between price and overall experience.

The hotel has been carefully and stylishly renovated retaining lots of its history and character. It has every modern convenience and a fabulous modern foyer but is very much a period property giving a feel for what it must have been like in its heyday.
The room we stayed in , in the old stable block, was very stylish with a huge bathroom ( bath with shower over). Good quality toiletries. Lovely chandelier hanging over the bed, huge TV, good quality coffee ( pods) and tea selection.
The bed was very low ( about 18" high) which gave us oldies a bit of a giggle getting out of bed and unfortunately we didn't have any view at all but then we did get a very good price on the room so can't complain. Better rooms will have a wonderful view of the surrounding parkland ( public park).
Breakfast was excellent with plenty of gluten free choice including gf sour bread toast. Well done kitchen. A shame we couldn't try dinner but we had a meeting in the city.
A special mention goes to the charming receptionist Matt who made us feel most welcome and is an absolute asset to the company. .
Taxi into town cost just shy of £6 each way. The hotel is ideally situated if visiting Leicester city on business or for pleasure. To leave the city behind and escape to this tranquil country house is just what we needed. Very highly recommended and yes, we would stay again

This was a single overnight stay on business and I found the first floor room to be very comfortable. Particularly liked the bathroom as although quite small it featured a large walk-in shower with excellent wall-mounted safety handle, easy to use shower with plenty of instant hot water. I have been in more comfortable double beds (might need a new mattress?) but I slept well after my "carnivores feast" in the superb Black Iron restaurant. Reception provided a warm welcome and were efficient with taxi bookings.
Thoroughly enjoyed my visit as the Full English Breakfast was really good with two super local sausages, fried bread on demand and perfectly cooked fried eggs and more besides.

My wife, daughter and I wanted a birthday meal at a posh restaurant so I chose the Black Iron, first mistake! We were given a booking for midday as the only slot available so we arrived at that time, no directions for car parking and a long drive through the park with many speed bumps, would have been better to bring guests in through the council estate.
On arrival we were led to a bare table and given menus with a very restricted choice. We asked for the a la carte but it was almost the same choices.
My daughter chose the watermelon steak, said that it was like eating a raw steak and left most of it. My wife had the fish, nicely cooked but not a very generous portion, and I chose the beer battered chicken. The chicken was so tough I asked for a steak knife to cut it but that was futile so I rejected it and a second portion was supplied, this was better.
We were not offered any condiments, as I said, the table was bare, so not even salt and pepper were available. I know everyone is scared of covid but I think this was unnecessarily cautious.
The dessert was not much better, my wife had eton mess which was puffed up to make it look a lot but wasn't. My daughter and I had the apple crumble, I asked for the clotted cream ice cream to be changed for custard as I'm not supposed to have cream, got told no, we don't have custard!
Our drinks were served with ice as usual and the glasses produced copious amounts of condensation that collected on the table top. Unfortunately, being an old building, the floors are not level and when one of us moved, the table rocked, draining the water into my wife's lap, not a happy bunny!
When we left we walked out via the terrace and found that, although it had been recently laid, the water was pooling due to poor levelling so the ladies, wearing sandals, had wet feet.
Will we be returning? NO!

Good welcome at reception. Beautiful room and well prepared. Nice bar. Restaurant menu a bit limited. One vegetarian main course - nothing vegan. Very beef and lamb orientated. Plenty of drinks. How e with range of prices. Breakfast not entirely to our taste (we like berries or sliced fruit - there was whole fruit available)

We booked direct and got a good deal so overall price of dinner bed and breakfast was very fair.

Beware, the best rooms are up one or two flights of a sweeping spiral staircase.

Think rooms overlooking outside bar co7ld be noisy in Summer.

Having visited Winstanley House many times, I had high hopes for our works Christmas do there, Sadly I was to be disappointed! Positives the room was nicely decorated and it’s a nice venue but that was it! We paid £55 a head and for that got served food which was under cooked, cold and tasteless and was the worst Christmas meal I’ve had anywhere, including in hospital! The starter was a mini quiche, which looked like it had come from Iceland and been heated through. The mains were plentiful but were low quality, not properly cooked, processed, tasteless and inedible. The desert was burnt and mine included a large bit of grease proof paper in it! Of our table of ten and surrounding tables, hardly any of the food was touched. The entertainment was a poor disco and that was it! I definitely wouldn’t recommend it and ruined the night for us.

We visited the hotel to see the new year in and stayed in an executive double room. The room we were given was nothing like advertised, with a tiny bathroom. We had to complain to reception and request to move room, at which point we were told this was not possible. I was not satisfied with this so went to complain again and then this was passed on to higher management who arranged for us to move into a different room (which was lovely and as advertised). When paying just shy of £200 for a single night, this was not what we expected. However, I might add, the young man who dealt with this was very polite and did his best so see to the issue.

The black iron restaurant could not be faulted. Lovely staff and amazing food! This was both for the breakfast and evening meal.

However, the stay is went downhill when I saw an additional £12 taken from my account with no explanation. We have rung the hotel about this and they asked us to email proof that this has happened. 2 weeks later, despite a follow up email we have heard nothing.

This service is just not what you expect given the reputation of, and cost of stay at the hotel.

We chose this as a stop off point after nearly a 4 hr drive, a place to rest up before the next leg. The hotel asks you to confirm that you’re not a wedding guest so that they can accommodate you in a room where you’re less likely to be disturbed by the festivities. We did this, we also checked in early on line and arrived about 15:05 (the earliest check in time was 15:00). We checked to see if we were near to the wedding party. We were assured that we were unlikely to be disturbed and the event would stop at midnight. Needless to say it didn’t and we know because we appeared to be over it despite being advised that the majority of guests were from the wedding party. This didn’t fulfil the basic requirement of a good nights sleep and so very disappointing for a £159 price tag. Certainly not worth the money.

The Black Iron restaurant was very good though with great service from Stan.

Dear Molly Please could you email us the details of your stay, the date and room number? We need to look closely at what went wrong on this occasion, as we try very hard to make sure that rooms are allocated correctly. This summer has been particularly high in the volume of weddings taking place, due to events previously being postponed due to Covid. We will look at our confirmation process more closely to match the right rooms to guests going forward.

We recently got married at Winstanley House in April 2022 and we honestly couldn't have asked for more. Ever since we booked, all the way to after our wedding day the service has been exceptional. Our wedding planner: Amee was there for us every step of the way: numerous email chains, event changes, meetings, last minute issues. She sorted everything out with a huge smile on her face, it was a pleasure working with her.

The venue itself is stunning! We hired the Orangery and Pavilion out for our two events, both rooms are naturally beautiful with heaps of sunlight. Everything was exactly how we'd asked for it to be set up. The food was exceptional, we'd asked for an Asian lunch menu and our guests could not stop complementing the food. The chef did an exceptional job. He is truly a credit to Winstanley.

The night before we'd stayed in the hotel room. The room was large with all the amenities you could need. It was clean and modern but with touches that represented the history of the venue. The view overlooked the back of the venue and was flooded with sunlight in the morning. The room was spacious and the reception staff were fantastic at responding and breakfast was delivered at 8:30 on the dot! Exactly as we'd asked.

We'd highly recommend Winstanley for not only a wedding but any event because you would be looked after incredibly well and guarantee that your day will be stress free so you can enjoy it!

Thank you to everyone at Winstanley for making our day so special!

Stayed for two nights. The service in the hotel was outstanding from start to finish and every member of hotel staff made us feel welcome.

Room: we had a lovely park view and a spacious room with a very comfortable bed; however, the room was up “two flights of stairs” which are long spiral flights and probably closer to 4 standard flights than two. This is described briefly in the booking email confirmation but doesn’t really do justice. If you have any sort of limitation when climbing stairs, these rooms are not for you (or the massive suitcase you’re dragging on your international travels). Request a room in “the quad” which is a separate section of the hotel, accessible by lift. These rooms don’t have charming views but do have lovely decor touches and comfy beds.

Dining in the on-site restaurant Black Iron was excellent, with top tier service and flavorful, perfectly cooked steaks. Prices were a bit high by Leicestershire standards but not shockingly high, and I do feel like we got a quality meal for the price.

Our daughter and her new husband held their Wedding Reception at Winstanley House on 23rd July and it was absolutely perfect and we cannot thank them enough. Sophie the Wedding Co-ordinator was wonderful as were all the other staff serving the food and behind the bar who worked so hard from when we arrived until the end of the night. The Hotel Operations Manager asked us on at least three occasions if we were happy with everything which we were . The food was lovely and well presented from the canapes to the main meal and the bowl food in the evening. Everything we asked for was sorted and the day ran very smoothly and was extremely well organised.. All our guests commented on how perfect everything was and many said it was the best wedding they had been to. The venue itself is beautiful and well kept.. We were able to sit outside which was lovely. The reception staff were also extremely helpful and polite particularly Nico who helped us the day previous when we arrived to decorate the room and also the young lady on reception the following morning who was very accommodating. We could not have wished for a more perfect wedding for our daughter especially after all the uncertainty during the last year and having to postpone it until this year. Winstanley House rearranged the date without any problems whatsoever. We can recommend Winstanley House without hesitation to any couples looking for a venue to hold their Wedding Reception in the future. Thank you once again.
