Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I'd give this hotel a solid 4 out of 5, it'd have to be perect to get a 5. I booked it at short notice, I needed a room uphill and the hoteI I normally usually use was full. I think I got the last room available. First I sent an email regarding the parking and it was replied to promptly and helpfully. On arrivaI I was checked in quickly and efficiently by a very pleasant young woman, I spoke with 2 others, at the bar and at breakfast, all 3 were very professional and personable. My room (9) was spotlessly clean and of a good size, as was the bathroom, I'm struggling to think of anything that might have improved it. Breakfast was great, a good choice and very good service. I would recommend this hotel, it's not much more than a downhill hain and the personal service and ambience is well worth that small extra cost. I've also stayed in more expensive ones locally and think this is comparable. However, I wouldny stay here again and that is entirely down to the "card only" payment policy. I entirley understand the commercial decision behind it but if I had known prior then I would have supported a business that retains a cash payment option, it's important to me.

Check in left us wanting to cancel as we waited an age for someone to check us in, but once we got past that everything was excellent. The room was spacious and comfortable, the bathroom wonderful, the breakfast (full English) really good and the staff friendly and efficient. Would definitely go back if we return to the area.

We just popped in for a late afternoon drink, on the recommendation from The Open Top Bus guide and found our experience a delight The staff were smiley, friendly and very helpful so we decided to reserve a table for the following eve We were remembered when we arrived for supper, which always makes for a further enjoyable experience The food was an eclectic mix, catering for every palate and we enjoyed a delicious, tasty and colourful supper enhanced by excellent customer service A must when visiting Lincoln

Got to the hotel in the afternoon, staff really helpful and showed me how to get to the car park, which was free. Got settled into the fantastic room and had a lovely evening meal in a busy restaurant area. Had a few very tasty cocktails. After the evening we went to bed and slept soundly. The breakfast in the morning was top class with a variety of choices. Only little let down was the shower in the evening was a bit hit and miss, guess everybody was showering at the same time! The staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. Overall a great place to stay, will be coming back soon!

After a hectic time we decided that we needed a little break away and decided on Lincoln for a cheeky night away. After scrolling TripAdvisor for recommendations on where to stay we settled on The Duke and were not disappointed We ventured into the bar to ask about parking and were directed by a friendly young person. After parking and checking in we decided to have a cuppa in the room before exploring. The room was very comfortable with a very large bed, bath and very nicely furnished. We had booked a delux room with garden views. We didn't get back to our room until 11pm so can't comment on noise from the bar but we both slept well with no complaints and as we live in a very quiet area we had expected to hear some comings and goings during the night but we heard nothing at all. The bathroom was perfect for what we needed and everything we needed was provided. Breakfast the next day was fantastic. I had eggs Benedict while my partner went for a full English. We were both more than happy with the food and the service from friendly staff. The location is great. Not in the middle of the town, keeping the noise levels down, but still within easy distance to everything in the town. We enjoyed our stay so much that we had tried to book for an extra night but they were fully booked, however we have booked to stay again in a few weeks, which is not something we usually do as we like to explore, but this place is more than worth another visit so soon. Let's just hope the second visit is as good as the 1st!

I am an ancient and reasonably crusty retired Army officer. My cum and I visited Duke William for a meal. We walked in at 7 o'clock (1900hrs in real time) and It was heaving! Think pre-Covid rush-hour Underground train. A polite young man (Josh) pointed us (combined age 170) in the right direction. The restaurant was fully booked, and thus we had to return to Josh to order our food. The meal was served remarkably promptly by a charming young lady (Lisa) and was jolly good ('pub grub') in every respect - except: the portions were far too large! When we left, about 2100hrs, the place seemed even fuller, with a mix of all ages present. In addition to the great crowd there was an eclectic selection of well-behaved dogs. I cannot comment of cost, as neither of us had visited a pub since before the wretched Covid. Well done all concerned at 'Duke William', and thanks.
