Detailed Reviews
Just returned from a lovely weekend in Lincoln where we stayed at this excellent location. From the warm, welcoming reception when we walked in, to the delicious English breakfast, there was nothing that detracted from the stay.
The building itself is built from stone and has a really nice rustic appearance & feel and has a wide selection of beers, wines and gins. Whilst i’m not a dog lover, it’s dog friendly so if you have one and are looking for somewhere to stop off to go for a drink then this place really works, it really has a nice feel about it.
The room we stayed in was above the bar which was fine as any noise coming from downstairs just disappears as the pub closes. Having said that, there was very little of it anyway and it wasn’t intrusive. The room was well equipped with a nice comfy bed and what appeared to be a freshly decorated bathroom with a fantastic shower! The staff in the restaurant were friendly and efficient, the menu choice was wide and the food very nicely cooked and presented.
Finally the location, it is just on the outskirts of the shopping area, situated amongst the artisan shops and bars and just 2 or 3 minutes from the incredible Lincoln Cathedral which is an absolute must visit. Five minutes walk away is the famous Steep Hill which really is steep but there’s even more shops and bars as you walk down it towards the more modern shops towards the bottom.

We spent one night in this hotel and we wish our stay was longer. We had room 1 which was lovely, huge super king bed (the photos do not show how big it really is!) lovely en-suite bathroom and window view of the beer garden. The breakfast was delicious, continental buffet style with tea, coffee, croissants, fruit and cereal and then a full menu with a good selection of hot dishes. We also had burgers when we first arrived and they were nice, it was busy but there was a nice atmosphere in the pub. We enjoyed the location and experience so much we have recommended the hotel to some friends who have booked 3 rooms in December. The only thing that I would change about the room is there was no plug socket near the mirror so doing my hair was a bit of a challenge! All staff were really friendly, thank you for a nice weekend.

I stayed here with my partner for 3 nights. It was my partner’s birthday while staying and I had informed the hotel in advance and they had kindly left a birthday cake in our room with a note saying “Happy Birthday”. A nice touch. We didn’t leave our room until about 10:15 on our first day (my partner’s birthday so time spent opening cards and pressies). The cleaner had knocked just a few minutes before we’d gone out and given us bottles of fresh water. We went out 10minutes after this and when we returned at the end of the day our room had not been cleaned! Our bin was full with wrapping paper etc, no clean towels and no bed made. The cleaner had still been attending to rooms near ours as we left our room as we passed her so it wasn’t like she’d finished for the day. And breakfast is served till 10:30 so breakfast was still going on as we left the building. Very disappointing! We still had a small piece of cake left 2 days later and I left a note asking the cleaner to “please leave the cake”, but on our return in the evening the remains of the cake was gone!! Plus the note! We had Room 9 which was very comfortable, huge bed. It overlooked outside seating area which was quiet whilst we were there (January) but I can imagine in the warm weather could be very noisy. Breakfast was good although not replenished during the morning so I’d you got there late there might not be any croissants or yoghurt left. We had dinner in the pub restaurant once and it was lovely. The pub had a great atmosphere, very charming and good gin selection and real ales. Always busy whilst we were there.

Second time staying at this location and was not as impressed this time. First time really was exceptional emphasis on booking to stay again but unfortunately not as good.
Requested early check in via email was advised room would be ready for 1pm on arrival which was early advised between 1.30 & 2pm which was fine. When checking in, aware we would have to provide breakfast selection for following morning but forgot pen, requested pen advised pen would be in room - no pen.
Room was small but clean, can hear everyone walking past due to creaky floorboards but to be expected due to age of building. TV in room did not work, spoke to barman who proceeded to go and back and forth to talk to someone who could not be bothered to come talk to us themselves, they informed us how we could potentially fix the problem which we had already tried, then asked if someone could take a look, on return informed someone had taken a look and it was fixed - it wasn't! Wouldn't be so bad however the room being directly above the bar could be quite noisy and without TV to drown out sound so did not get to sleep until late. Leaking radiator in bathroom, however breakfast was ok so if we were to stay again I would request different room but may look elsewhere based on our recent stay

This was a highly rated hotel in the area, the nightly rate suggesting this was one of the best hotels in this part of town.
Parking at the rear of the premises was fine, plenty of available spaces.
Entry through the public house entrance on the street, we were directed to the rear, to a small reception area. We arrived early and were happy to find that we could leave the vehicle in the car park.
Booking in is from 3pm. We were allocated a room to the front of the hotel, on the road. It was evident that the building was old; low ceiling, etc.
On entering the room, an iron mark burnt into the carpet was immediately noticeable. The room was fairly small, with very little storeage space. Bearing in mind, we were staying 2 nights; this caused some frustrations.
Some cosmetic marks on the walls and ceiling were noticeable, but overall, it was not too concerning. The room was hot, the radiator was promptly switched off, and windows, including secondary double glazing, opened for the duration of our stay.
Very little table space and not enough plug sockets led to regular socket roulette.
The bathroom was a reasonable size, although again, there was little to no space for storage. There was a large shower cubicle and rainfall shower head, or detachable spray head.
My significant other tells me that the mirrors within the room were not conducive to make-up sessions.
The bed and pillows were a little stiff for our liking but clean. Housekeeping, attended daily.
The public house side of the business was very busy. We ate here one evening and found good pub fare.
Overall, it's a reasonable place to stay; it is we'll situated in the cathedral quarter. That said, it's not somewhere where we would stay again unless the rooms were of a better standard.

Located at the top of the hill in Lincoln within touching distance of the cathedral and castle. We stayed as 2 couples in the adjacent cottage for £170 for friday and saturday night. Large lounge and kitchen area downstairs with 2 double bedrooms and a sizeable bathroom with shower and bath upstairs. Breakfast included also absolute bargain. Direct access onto the free car park at the rear. The staff were super friendly and certainly looked after us. No faults at all, brilliant

We stayed for one night. The hotel room was good and comfortable however quite noisy mainly from banging doors and drunken customers in the bar. Breakfast was a total atrocious we whet down no staff it took 15 mins before we saw some staff however we were still invisible !! after more time elapsed we walked out without breakfast. My wife spoke to the manger who simply didn't care!
Had breakfast in the white heart hotel and it was great. I wouldn't go back to the The Duke William Hotel.

The Hotel and attached pub is an old listed building and has plenty of character at the top of the hill.
We were greeted by Suzy who was very courteous and friendly at check in. The room was a huge surprise as it was a boutique unique and cosy room. Very clean and the bathroom was exceptional, quite large with a beautiful bath,
Breakfast was out of this world. The Full English has quality ingredients, is very tasty and plentiful. Nicola was so nice and we had exceptional service.
Would definitely return for a stay.

Stayed here for a couple of days to explore the local area and loved the place. The pub is well kept and nicely furnished with lovely staff. Food was of a good standard but you had to book well in advance for dinner due to increased demand at the time (Lockdown - govt. food subsidies) There is on-site parking and the pub is beautifully placed for walking round Lincoln being on the top side of town very close to the castle and the cathedral, though if you struggle with steep inclines maybe Lincoln is not for you. We would stay here again without hesitation if they fixed the intermittent TV signal in our room.

Arrived at the hotel and was met with attentive staff. We were given the key to our room and we weren't disappointed . Little gripe, only 1 bottle of water but we were able to share. Tea coffee abd homemade cookies was a nice addition and very delicious. We didn't ha e our evening meal here as we were booked into a little bistro. Back at the room, we were a little disappointed at the noise from the beer garden but that soon went quiet at 11pm. Bed was comfy though I didn't really like the pillows. That said, I slept very well. Breakfast had to be pre ordered which was a shame as I had ordered the full English the night before but on getting up didn't fancy such a big breakfast. However, I did pick at it and what I tasted was excellent quality sausage and bacon. Plentiful and nicely presented. Again, staff were very attentive and I couldn't fault their service. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Only 4 stars due to the noise, lack of water in the room and the fact we had to pre order breakfast. Just want to add that we were told that if we required anything more on our tea tray, then we could ask abd be given. We didn't so I guess the lack of water could have been rectified.
