Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Lincoln Hotel sits in a coveted spot, making it a stone's throw away from notable sights like the cathedral and castle, a feature frequently celebrated by guests. However, reviewers often note the hotel's atmosphere and rooms feel like a trip back in time, not in a grand, historical sense but rather in dire need of a contemporary makeover.
While the staff wins over many with their amiable service, some guests have flagged issues with inconsistent experiences. Cleanliness stands out as a strong point, but the dated amenities and lackluster value proposition leave several travelers less than impressed.

Stayed one night after purchasing a travelzoo voucher for bed breakfast and a separate one for evening meal with wine The rooms were clean and tidy with tea making facilities toiletries provided in bathroom hairdryer iron and ironing board provided. Very helpful and friendly staff and the setting straight across from the cathedral beautiful. If your going out and about walking sensible shoes needed quite hilly and a lot of cobbles.

Booked a treat night away as we were in Lincoln for something anyway. Chose this hotel via reviews on here and what was available that fitted the bill for a romantic get away.
The hotel itself is situated perfectly in the centre of Lincoln and, even better, has a car park you can access prior to check in too.
Upon arrival the hotel does look a bit dated and inside some areas do appear to be but there has been some effort to change some areas.
Our room was a suite, the layout and facilities were great (not sure about the fan heater!), the room was in an older part of the building so interesting shape and features.
On the website it said it had been redecorated, I’d say ‘interestingly’. Some of the items of furniture were pretty worn and I’m never sure why a hotel would have glass or mirror furniture, surely just difficult to keep clean as the smears under the glass table showed.
I imagine the hotel staff are stretched to the max cleaning for Covid but I do think the room could have been cleaner, the bath tub had some ‘tide marks’ on the top still and the plug hole in the sink needed a scrape/deep clean. Overall the hotel looked quite clean, just a few areas of detail needed a bit more.
As a side note the rainfall shower only provided tepid water.
We are in the restaurant both for dinner and breakfast, the food was ok for dinner, great presentation but sadly the service was very slow, we actually asked for our third course to be brought to the room as we didn’t want to wait any longer.
The morning was no different, if anything it was worse. Clearly not enough staff available, not sure if that’s due to the rules they now need to abide by. The staff appeared to working hard but took our breakfast order specifics but then eventually brought out breakfasts with all the items in, we wondered if we’d got someone else’s food!
I’m not sure I’d revisit to be honest but, all of the issues could easily be solved so I wouldn’t let my review put any visitors off trying it especially with the current deal if 40% off.

I cannot believe that I was charged £140 for one of the garden rooms in this hotel. The bar area was very nice. However the corridors and our room were all filthy and smelled really awful. All the furniture in our room was scuffed or stained. The bathroom was tiny with a broken toilet seat. There was a dirty brown awful carpet. The bed and bedding was comfortable and the staff were friendly in the main. We thought with the price that the hotel would have been nicer than a Premier Inn but that would have been half the price and at least have been clean and nice with a decent cooked breakfast! The buffet breakfast here was like something you get at the Holiday Inn or even a Travelodge. Dinner in the green room was nice service but highly pretentious over cooked food and very basic decor etc. Again not good value for money at all. You also have to heft your suitcases up and down dirty staircases depending on which room you are in.
This hotel seriously needs a deep clean and a complete refurbishment of the rooms, I have never stayed anywhere so dirty and depressing.

We have stayed in the Lincoln Hotel three or four times over the last 15 years. It is ideally located for the old town, with a large and convenient car park. While the quirky purple furniture has gone, it still retains a retro, sixties feel, though the exterior looks a bit run down. It is hard to believe that what is basically a white concrete and glass box would get planning permission today on such a prime site.
The location is the main attraction and our de-luxe room 306 on the third floor, with massive windows and a balcony, gave amazing and uplifting views of the cathedral, particularly when floodlit at night. The room itself was large, well furnished and decorated, with good heating and aircon, and the small bathroom was similarly modern and convenient. The TV was a good size, with Freeview channels, though the lighting in the room was inadequate for reading. The main problem was the bed. This gave me backache every night and investigation revealed a sagging and heavily stained mattress, covered with a thick polyester topper. The topper merely made the bed hot and, on leaving, we told Reception that the room needed a new mattress.
The mainly buffet breakfast was fine, with some options cooked to order. We ate in the hotel on the first night and, while there was no atmosphere, the food and service were very good and prices reasonable. The dining room, with large windows, also faces the cathedral, which is nice.
The staff were all very good – pleasant, friendly and helpful.

We stayed at The Lincoln Hotel for a 2 night stay and really enjoyed it, in the lovely historic city. The location is probably the main selling point, set directly opposite the magnificent cathedral in the historic upper town, although unfortunately the hotel's architecture doesn't match the environment, how did they get away with it in the 60's? There's a ample sized car park accessed north bound from Northgate, with the checking in quick by the lovely manager Nicola. We were on a Virgin Experience and had a deluxe room on the 3rd floor facing onto the cathedral, a fantastic view. The room was well appointed, small balcony, safe, fridge, air con, flat screen TV en-suite with shower in bath, comfortable double bed which certainly in its day would match its 4* grading. Now here's the slight problem, the decor and fittings is somewhat tired and is heading towards needing a refurb', notably the carpets. The ground floor public area's were better and matched the outside 60's theme which worked well and was a bit different. We stayed on a b & b basis and had dinner the first night, with the dinner particularly being of a high standard. Because of covid requirement they are using a day room for dining and to be honest it lacked a bit of atmosphere, but the usual circumstances have got to be considered. The covid compliance was of a high standard which was great to see. All the staff we encountered were great, friendly and helpful. As I said we did really enjoy our stay but if the hotel wasn't in its location and with such nice staff we would probably be more critical in relation to its condition, that said it didn't affect our stay. Recommened

+1
Booked this hotel and had high expectations - the website sells this as a luxe hotel, it is NOT. The selling point on the website is cathedral views, we don’t have a cathedral view, we have a view of a wall. the painting/decoration/furniture is in serious need of a revamp, it is so tired compared to the pristine rooms shown on the site. Overall, the room is worse than you’d find at a (far cheaper) travelodge.
The room and bathroom are also FILTHY. I have inserted photos of some leftover crisps we found, and pubic hair all up the bathroom wall, amongst other things.
the fact there is no fridge in the room is also a serious issue. They provide a complimentary bottle of water but no fridge??? Can’t even have a hot drink from the kettle because the mugs are filthy too.
There are also no plug sockets by the bed which is just annoying, and the night porter took about 10 hours to let us in when we arrived back at the hotel in the evening.
Will not be coming back.

This 60's built hotel is in dire need of some restoration, the rooms are outdated, not very clean and in desperate need of some tlc. ( some rooms I understand have been refurbished). For reasons unknown the reception is now in the dismal basement with the old reception now a bar. During our visit this bar was hardly ever manned even though customers did want to purchase drinks after all it was new years eve. Some even resorted to phoning the hotel to try and get some service. It is clearly understaffed and lacking any sort of management but having said that the few staff who were working tried very hard. Against this backdrop of a "fawlty towers" style hotel the food served on new years eve was excellent both in presentation and quality and was in direct contrast to the rest of the hotel. The current owners should either close the hotel down and completely refurbish it or better still knock it down because it is awful.

We stay here often and take advantage of the Feel Good Friday offer which includes evening meal on Friday night and breakfast the next morning. Meals and service were excellent as usual, but service was a little slow in the evening. Restaurant tables looked very bare as they had tablecloths only, giving the impression that the venues were closed. This was clearly a Covid measure but we could not see how this helped limit the possibility of infection as all items were brought once the guest sat down and were subsequently removed after every guest had left anyway (so why not replace with fresh napkins, cutlery etc at the same time?). The cathedral view cannot be beaten and is beautiful day or night. An extra £10 secures a slightly larger room with balcony and a bath which is rare. Overall the stay was excellent and staff very pleasant.

We stayed here overnight on Friday, The room was clean and comfortable the furniture marked and a little dated as was the garden furniture very warn. But it didnt spoil our stay.It was peaceful and relaxed. The shower is fab. We dined in the lounge and our meal was outstanding. Gemma our waitress was great she is attentive and polite and made us feel very at ease. Breakfast was lovely although we did have to return to our room as staff were not there to greet us. Gemma needed some support she was doing a fantastic job which would have been made far easier with an extra pair of hands at a busy time. Overall we loved our stay and would return in the future .
