The White Hart is an older hotel with about 50 bedrooms I think. Some are in the older part and some in a newer part but it all blends together quite well . Its big selling point is its location , which is right in the older medieval part of Lincoln, and right next to the magnificent cathedral, which can be directly seen from many of the rooms. There are quite a few pubs and restaurants within < 5 mins walk. Surprisingly considering the location there is also a large free car park, only 50 metres away, which is a big plus point .
Due a lack of standard rooms we paid for a superior, and in the end we were upgraded to the 4 poster suite, with a separate lounge overlooking the cathedral . Although it was very spacious , it was not very warm and at one point the radiators stopped working altogether ( but later came on again) . Main issue was the bathroom which had no radiator at all , just a heated towel rail and it had the only window in the hotel I saw that did not have secondary double glazing . So it was freezing in there.
Although we did not hear any noise from other guests the kitchen extractor fans just below us were noisy .
The downstairs bar seemed very popular at the weekend , although the restaurant was semi deserted . The dinner/steaks we had were good though.
Breakfast was also good . Although I agree with other reviewers that the hot breakfast size was not massive , I disagree about the staff who managed well during a busy period. In general the mainly young staff in the hotel were fine.
Overall an enjoyable stay , although the room prices seemed high for a 3*
Also they claim on their website the price is always better if you book with the direct. Well in this case it was exactly the same .

My husband, golden retriever and I have just returned from a wonderful break at this delightful, dog-friendly hotel. The location, right in the city centre, moments from the cathedral and Steep Hill is unbeatable, especially with the free parking opposite. The staff were unbelievably helpful, welcoming and friendly throughout, and couldn't do enough for our dog, who can't wait to go back! Our room was cosy and comfortable, with a view directly over the cathedral. The hotel was full of interesting pictures of the cathedral, plus some quirky old furniture. As we were doing Veganuary, we posed a challenge to the restaurant, who nevertheless managed to provide a decent main course and choice of puddings. Dogs were not allowed in the restaurant area, so we had to sit in the bar, but nevertheless this was comfortable and pleasant, with a very friendly bar lady. We are so grateful we could bring our dog with us, thank you so much! A great first visit to Lincoln - what a great place, we highly recommend.

the best thing about the White Hart was that it has a free carpark and it is in a great location for seeing the cathedral and castle. Also, lovely view of the cathedral from our window, and we could hardly hear the bells.
The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. Regarding the room, we stayed here about 20 years ago and the room then was very cosy, traditional and original. However, since then, the rooms have been refurbished and although the room was very warm, the lack of decoration made it seem cold and was more like a chain hotel bedroom. Also, the bathroom needs attention as pieces of the taps were missing on the bath amongst other things.
regarding breakfast the next morning, we were not impressed. the hostess was not interested in us at all and spent most of the time in her position at her desk. I have been a waitress many times, and believe me,I was never still. The dirty dishes were not cleared away all the time we were there. I ordered smoked haddock with poached eggs. When it came, there was a miniscule piece of fish, with 2 eggs in what looked like a butter dish. I do not like eggs without toast, so had to ask for toast, and then was told by the 'busy' hostess that we had to do toast ourselves. I did that, but had to transfer my breakfast to a teaplate to eat. Have you ever tried to eat poached eggs on toast in a butter dish? My husband's cooked breakfast was sparse to say the least. one mushroom, one sausage, no tomato etc. I had to laugh as two burly men who were at a nearby table looked aghast at the poached eggs on one slice of toast that they were served with. so, make sure you have a big meal the night before, or pack a bacon sandwich!

I booked here after reading good reviews and the rooms looked nice. The first thing you see when you go through the door is the sparse dark bar area. No atmosphere or interesting decor just a bare area with a hard floor and some cheap dark furniture. The staff on reception were lovely.
We’d booked singles and the rooms were ok. A bit tired. And it seems pointless framing postcards in huge frames with huge white borders. Just buy some interesting old prints. Bed comfy. There was a good smart TV but sadly the signal was so bad it kept stopping and made watching anything pointless. But the bedrooms were the nicest parts of the hotel, but I don’t want to be stuck in my room all night.
We’d booked a meal in the hotel restaurant, The Grille. The lighting stripped the room of any ambiance and it felt like an airport cafe. The badly designed salt and pepper shakers poured huge amounts onto the food and nearly ruined the meal. The tables were bare. The tableware dated and mismatched. Please don’t serve meals on boards or square glass plates. Just buy plain classic white, it’s cheap and easy and always looks stylish. Put a table cloth on and some flowers or a candle. And most importantly change the lighting as it is really really awful at night. The food wasn’t good but that can be for unforeseen reasons but I’d be wary of booking a meal there again. The staff were lovely, if a little overwhelmed. Breakfast was much better. The lighting was appropriate and the food ok.
It’s a shame as this is such a great building in a perfect position on the hill. It really needs a good interior designer to sort out the bar and restaurant areas as they need to be much more comfortable and appropriate to the history of the building.

Probably one of the most delightful hotels I have ever had the pleasure to stay in.
Superb location at the top of Steep Hill and In-between the castle and the cathedral.
The staff are friendly and polite and the food in the restaurant is of a very high standard, and the hotel is better than just three stars !
The rooms seem to be named after bishops of Lincoln and my room 222 has John Russell 1480 on the door, a lovely touch.
There is a lift to all floors from near the restaurant and a free car park in a covered area opposite the hotel.
The standard rooms are a good size with large bed, 20 inch TV and tea and coffee facilities with tea pot and biscuits and bottled water. There is also a choice of tea"s with peppermint, raspberry, Earl Grey ,green tea and Ty-phoo to choose from. There is also an ironing board and a hair dryer in the room..
If you are looking for a hotel in Lincoln look no further, I will certainly be back.

We have just returned from a three night stay at The White Hart in Lincoln and I just wanted to say what a great hotel this is. Sat between the cathedral and castle, the location could not be better plus there is a free carpark just over the road. We stayed in room 350 which is huge and enjoys mesmerising views of the cathedral. The breakfasts were all cooked to a high standard and the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. On our next visit to this terrific city we won't hesitate to book The White Hart again.

Stayed for 2 nights in an executive twin room, which was spacious and had a lounge area as stated. The room we stayed in is the first image shown on the website (if you go to executive rooms). What the image cannot convey is the creaking floorboards of the room above....which caused a lot of noise as the room was occupied for the duration of our stay.

A dining voucher (£25 each off dinner in Grille) was included so we booked for 8pm Friday. The pre-dinner cocktail was delicious (included in the deal) but the quality of service we received from our waiter and the disinterest shown by the restaurant manager left a lot to be desired.

One question asked about the sea bream main course was greeted with "I don't know, I don't eat fish" (!) and despite asking what the pork main course was served with (and being told there were no potatoes) the dish included several potatoes so we didn't really need to have ordered the additional side dish of potatoes.

When the manager collected our plates and asked if everything was ok we told him the plates were cold and the food went cold quickly and we didn't realise there would be so little veg on the plate, to which he said our waiter should have told us about the veg and made no comment about the plates/food being cold.

We booked breakfast for 9am on both mornings (Sat/Sun) and it's a good job we weren't in a rush. Saturday morning was busy and they could not cope or keep up with demand, despite allocating time slots. We ordered some cold food to come before a cooked breakfast and did not receive the hot food until 10am. Fortunately we were too busy chatting to be overly concerned but there were other people in the room who were getting annoyed (quite rightly) by the delays.

Sunday breakfast was served a little faster but the poached eggs I requested were fried (and cold) and there was no one to be seen to report this too (plus it would probably have meant a delay in getting replacements, by which time my friend would have finished hers).

I don't think we will stay in this hotel again although we will definitely visit Lincoln again. This is our second visit and it was lovely to be in the Cathedral quarter.

We were fortunate to get free parking spaces in the (ramshackle) garage, where others who arrived later did not - no idea where they parked but it's expensive in the city centre so get there early if you want to park for free

Meeting friends in Lincoln we decided to stay this side of town rather than at the Hilton on the Waterfront.

The hotel offered parking on a first come first served basis - what it didn’t tell you was that the majority of indoor parking is appalling with the whole of the area badly littered and suffering from major pigeon problems. So make sure you park in the small outside area.

On entering the hotel you can see that quite a lot of money has been spent on improving the bar but it still lacks something. What would have helped to make it more welcoming would have been to have put the heating on. There are some lovely pieces of furniture scattered around the hotel which could be used to improve the ambiance of all the public areas.

Our room was large with a separate seating area and a good sized bathroom. Plenty of hot water, towels and White Company toiletries but again on arrival it was cold and with so many old buildings there comes a smell of neglect.

The room was tired and dated but clean and tidy, the bathroom suffered from the same issues but was clean and once the heated towel rail had been put on felt a much nicer space.

The room had a oil heater which we switched on as soon as we entered the room. The heating was started up on the morning of our second day - at 5:30am and it sounded like a bath was running in the room. The heating was not enough on its own to keep the space warm.

Breakfast was very good, they start serving a 7:00am and the team on both days were very friendly and the service was good. Another small improvement would be to serve latte, cappuccinos and expresso coffees during the breakfast service.

Would I stay again - probably not!

We chose the White Hart because of its location in the city which is at the top of Steep Hill and within a short walk of both the castle and cathedral. Our room was a good size with a very comfortable bed and lovely big fluffy towels. Unfortunately the heating was programmed to come on at 6am and as it is an old system it was very noisy so we turned it off and it did not bother us again for the rest of the visit as it wasn't cold enough for us to need it.
The staff on reception were friendly and efficient.
The breakfasts were good with a cooked and continental selection and the staff were friendly and efficient.
We didn't eat in 'The Grille' restaurant as it did not look welcoming and the menu was quite boring.
We had one late night drink in the bar and again it wasn't very welcoming, so maybe the management should look at updating both the bar and the restaurant to bring in more customers.
Although the car park was free, it was also free board and lodging for a multitude of pigeons who must have spent quite a lot of time taking pot shots at our car as it had to be cleaned thoroughly when we got home.
Overall it was a good 3* hotel and we would stay there again if we were visiting Lincoln.

Visit on a regular basis when visiting family in Lincoln as the Porn star martinis are excellent.
The stay was for our wedding anniversary.
Firstly the room was a huge disappointment I paid the extra for a executive room & requested a Cathedral or Castle room @ time of booking & also telephoned.
Secondly when we ordered our drink in the bar area they stayed on a tray on the end of the bar for a good 10/15 mins while the bar staff stood around talking behind the bar !! It was only when I went up to the bar & asked if we could have our drinks they came over with them.( This happened twice)
Thirdly The restaurant staff EXCELLENT EXCELLENT could not fault them well done all staff in the restaurant you are a asset - Maybe give a few tips to the bar staff.
