Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Overall fine for two nights, but didn't enjoy grab and go breakfast, reception dingy, rooms outdated, heating erratic - none at all in bathroom. Location though was good - two minutes from Liverpool James Street.

Response from Reception Team, Guest Services / Front Office at Heywood House Hotel
Responded 8 Jan 2024
Dear Jill, Thank you for choosing us for your stay and for taking the time to leave your feedback! We are sorry you were dissatisfied with our breakfast options. As explained at reception by our staff, our breakfast option is clearly stated and advertised on all of our booking platforms. As we are a room-only hotel, our breakfast option is a continental grab & go breakfast and this information is provided prior to arrival to all guests, to avoid disappointment. We are however, located in the heart of the city, nearby multiple cafes and restaurants which offer a cooked breakfast option daily, and our reception staff is always at hand to provide recommendations if needed. Please note, our reception is staffed 24 hours and guests are advised to contact us should any issues arise during the stay. We would have been more than happy to assist for any issues regarding the heating in your room. Please note, all rooms provide instructions on the use pf our heating control panels if guests have any difficulties. We hope this has not deterred you from staying with us in the future and we hope to welcome you again soon! Kind Regards, Heywood House Hotel

Lovely staff, allowed us to hold our bags pre check-in and after we'd checked out so we could explore without our luggage! We stayed on the 2nd floor and our room was lovely, clean & tidy. We'd seen some reviews about noise, but it's to be expected when you're staying in a city centre?! We had some noise disturbance following the end of a concert but as we'd only just got in ourselves it wasn't really disruptive at all! Staff really were lovely, and super helpful, I would definitely stay here again.

Booked a superior double and young man on reception was great. Me and my partner were both impressed by the building itself and some of it's features. However we did face several serious issues, I would appreciate if the hotel would contact me in regards to a resolution at sptraditional@outlook.com. Sadly room let down by cracks in sink and floor. Bluetooth speaker not working but still nailed to desk. Stain on sheets. And bottom of bath stained. Paint peeling on almost every accent in the room and bathroom. Sink also took over a minute to drain, making it impossible to have a shave as it would overflow, clearly blocked or needs repair. Should have been addressed before allocating room to us. Thermostat also would reset in the night so had to get up to turn the temperature down to get some sleep. Great location sadly let down by poorly maintained room. Also when booked it was advertised as including a grab and go continental breakfast, which was further confirmed with an email with no mention of a charge, however when we arrived we were told this was charged at £5.00 a head. The room should not be advertised as a superior room and charged a further premium over the standard when it is this poorly maintained with this many issues. A shame as the hotel was clearly impressive when first refurbished but it's clearly slipped into disrepair.

Response from Reception Team, Guest Services / Front Office at Heywood House Hotel
Responded 5 Jan 2024
Dear sp1230199, Thank you for choosing us for your stay and for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are very sorry we did not meet your expectations and that you experienced some issues. We endeavour to provide a comfortable and enjoyable stay for all of our guests and are disappointed to hear this fell short on your stay with us. Unfortunately, we have recently experienced some issues with our bathroom extract fans which has needed repairing and upgrading over the recent months and this has caused some rooms to have ventilation issues, which has caused the aforementioned sink problems such as cracks due to chips on the sink enamel, as the bathroom was exposed to excess moisture and did not have the required ventilation to prevent this. Our maintenance team, alongside external contractors have focused on servicing, repairing and upgrading all of our extract fans in every room as and when needed, to ensure the improvement of ventilation. We can happily confirm this has proven to be successful and it should prevent issues such as cracks and chips on sinks and we can confirm your room has been reported to our maintenance team as a matter of urgency for an effective resolution. We advise all of our guests to report any issues that may arise to our 24-hour reception team. We will always work hard to provide an appropriate and quick resolution or offer a room move, if any issues cannot be resolved as quickly as expected. We would have been more than happy to assist with the Bluetooth speaker in your room. We offer our sincere apologies in regards to any housekeeping issues found. We thrive on our excellent housekeeping team outsourced by a high quality company and all of our rooms are subject to daily checks by our management team and our head housekeeper. If we had been made aware of any linen issue, we would have been more than happy to request a linen change or a room refresh from our housekeepers and this issue would have been rectified and appropriately discussed. Please note, our bathrooms are subject to strict cleaning regimes and upon checking this room, we can confirm the bath is not stained and it is however suffering from general wear and tear, and this will also be addressed as per your comments. We are currently in the process of renovating and redecorating the majority of our rooms and public areas and will soon see a vast improvement on the issues reported. Please note, our AC & heating control panels in the bedrooms have two different settings and when left on an automatic setting, it may have a temperature timer, so therefore this setting is not recommended. We provide instructions in every bedroom and we are always at hand to answer any questions or to provide assistance, should guests require, they are more than welcome to use the bedroom telephones to contact reception. Your reservation was booked on a room-only rate and it is also stated on your booking confirmations, that our breakfast is £5 per person should you wish to add it to your reservation. We apologise if this information was not clear. Our superior rooms are charged at a higher price than the standard rooms as they benefit from extra features such as a bathtub, a radio/speaker and a fridge. All of our booking platforms state the differences between each room type which explains the slight price increase. We again apologise your stay was dissatisfactory and we would be more than happy to provide you with a future discounted stay should you wish to return. If you wish to take advantage of this offer, please contact us at your earliest convenience. We hope you allow us the opportunity to provide you with a more pleasant stay. Kind Regards, Heywood House Hotel

A gem of an hotel in a fabulous city. Literally no car needed, public transport, shopping, culture and heritage all virtually on the doorstep - indeed the hotel itself has history in this historic banking distri No food or drink service on site apart from in-room refreshments. No problem as there are cafes, restaurants, clubs and pubs a plenty within 10 minutes walk catering for every taste I know (and probably more I don't!). There is a door through from the Hotel to the Alchemist kitchen and bar, a reasonably priced quality gastro bar superb for an evening meal and/or drinks.

We keep on coming back to this hotel and have no intention of changing in the future. It is a basic hotel but it is clean, with spacious rooms (including bathroom) and excellent, friendly staff. Location is very good as well. Wifi could be better but we know it is in the process of being improved. Breakfast is not served but next door is "The Slaughterhouse" - one of the best pubs in Liverpool, serving breakfast as well. A tip: take a "balcony room" - it is a bit more expensive but having my morning coffee there is an extra treat from me to me.

Lovely reception staff extremely helpful. Fabulous room, bed and pillows very comfortable. Spotless room and bathroom. Stayed a Saturday night but despite that we weren't disturbed by noise at all. Not sure why people were complaining so much.

I stayed here on business from march until Nov 2023 the rooms are great in size and facilities, but that's nothing compared to the care and professionalism of the staff. Nothing was too much to ask of Alda,James Jack & Jamie. They even put balloons on my door and bed on my birthday and moved me to a balcony room overlooking the river when my wife came for the weekend. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone having to stay for any length of time To all the staff - thank you
