Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had an appalling experience at the hotel at a charity conference dinner. No hand was soap in the toilets (our charity had to buy some before our guests arrived), food was not as experienced on the food tasting session, vegetarian option was not comparable to the meat version (cauliflower portion was one floret),meat not warm when arrived to tables… was not good value for money. Awards ceremony was disturbed by the waiting staff, when asked to stop clearing tables when speeches were taking place, they completely ignored our request. welcome area was intimidating where many delegates were approached for drugs. Had many complaints from delegates (over 70 guests), which were raised to the manager, who spent 3 months dodging and making excuses without trying to resolve the issues. Escalated to the hotel chain who proceeded to ignore our complaint. This hotel and chain feel it is acceptable to take a large amount of money without providing an adequate service. If you want a successful event, I encourage you to stay clear of this place. People running this place are unprofessional. No customer service at all.

Was expecting a basic hotel room based on reviews and cost, although room photos made me more hopeful, sadly the accommodation is very poor, bathroom was not very clean and fixtures and fittings were poorly maintained, old and rusty, skirtings filthy, needed repainting and refitting, tv didn’t work, beds are also very small and narrow, bed linen and towels were nice bit no housekeeping. Some rooms are being updated but we were not given one of these. To be fair I did finally address the room issues with staff on the second day where they promptly offered a different better room! (We felt too late to move as it was late in the evening and we’re leaning the next day ). If better rooms were available why were we not in them in the first place.? We paid £240 per night for a triple room and I am appalled at what we got for this charge. The communal areas and corridors echo its original opulence but even that is tired and neglected. It’s so big and obviously minimal investment. Also at night there were at least 6 security staff on the door who felt intimidating when you entered and didn’t say hello or anything and always people begging outside. It appears that some rooms are permanently let for housing although I can’t confirm this. The location is excellent for the city centre, waterside and Matthew street ( (Cavern). The staff were nice, breakfast was average and a bit cold. I think this hotel would suit if you really don’t care about your accommodation but I was not prepared for just how rough it would be, decor and clientele and certainly poor value. Would never recommend or stay again. Spoilt my weekend.

We booked the Adelphi for a Christmas shopping trip, only needing somewhere to stop over. The reviews were less than promising, but we booked anyway, and were extremely pleasantly surprised. The welcome was friendly, the room not oversized but perfectly ok with comfortable bed, good shower and fairly new decoration. We added the 'extras' package, which included breakfast, a drink in the bar, and late checkout. This was excellent value at £25 total, and certainly very good value. The breakfast was excellent (buffet) with plenty of choice and cooked options piping hot. The location was perfect, with Bold Street, the Chinese Quarter and the main shopping drag/Liverpool One just a short walk away. Could not fault it. The building is imposing and facilities far exceeded our expectations, given the mediocre reviews. Would thoroughly recommend.

We stayed for 3 nights, the room was not serviced by the housekeeping team during this period. Our trash cans were overflowing and our towels were soaked. Additionally, having only one roll of toilet paper for three days with three people was not sufficient. We were disappointed by this lack of service for a hotel. The Wi-Fi connection was not complimentary. Despite all this, we still liked the hotel.

Absolutely terrible. Man at reception looked miserable and was very rude. No greetings and barely said a word. Our key card wouldn’t work so made us go up and down 3 times before then changing our room. He was saying we was doing it wrong even though I took a video showing how I’m putting the card in the door. Just didn’t work in the end. The door was not in good condition as the key card bit was hanging off. No plug in bath so couldn’t get a wash. Will not be staying again.

Such a pity this hotel is in such a state , its so old and runned down , my friends didn't even have a shower in their room , just a massive bath 🙃, it would be a beautiful hotel if it was refurbished, the location is absolutely perfect , didn't stop us having the best time though

Myself and my partner stayed here for one night, and for £109. I do not usually like to complain unless absolutely necessary. This hotel is absolutely disgusting. On entering, it looks very grand and quite beautiful. The staff were efficient but there was no charisma or joy in any of them - being a previous customer service worker I understand that busy times can ruin your mood so I let this slide as ‘a one off’. I’d checked the reviews previous and many people said it was a little ‘outdated’ and rooms ‘were suitable for a short stay’. AS SOON as we stepped into the room it stank of smoke, it was so pungent so we opened the windows hoping it would go away. It didn’t. When we got back later that evening - it was just as bad and was awful, my cloths stank of it when I’d got home. Having a wander around the room I realised that ‘outdated’ was an understatement. Our room was rank and here is why: - the smell - the floor was crusty - there was blood stains on the bedsheets - the walls were cracked and pealing - the bathtub was yellow, old and peeling - the tap in the room dripped all night - the decor was old and outdated I will NEVER stay here again. It’s vile and I can’t believe I paid that much money for a dump.

Fantastic location but that is all this hotel has to offer. £235 for a double room midweek is a disgrace. It is tired, dated, grubby, the carpets are stained and crusty, empty beer cans in corridors, all in all it left me disappointed and sad that a hotel with the location and architectural beauty could be left to deteriorate inside. It lacks management, there is no enthusiasm from the staff but they were pleasant enough.
