The public areas of the hotel are clean and well maintained, and very secure.
The room itself (I booked a double) was bright and spacious, had everything that I needed including tea/coffee, a large desk, a tv and extra bedding, and most importantly it was absolutely spotless.
The bathroom was also immaculate, the water pressure was good and there were plenty of towels.
The only faults that I found with the room were that the bathroom light wouldn't work properly, and outer windows were dirty, the former was resolved promptly and professionally by the staff upon being asked about it.
I had a great nights sleep and wasn't disturbed by any noises from outside, the bed itself was very comfortable.
Breakfast service was excellent and the staff were making sure that the buffet stayed hot and that there was enough, the food itself was very tasty and for £8.99, unlimited, which was an added bonus.
Check out was quick and easy as I just had to my keycard into a slot in the front desk.
Overall I had an excellent stay and would definitely recommend Travelodge Exchange Street, and I will most certainly be returning.
It’s quiet enough ( room around back ) with a wonderful fire escape view - but no street noise.
Bathroom is ok I guess - shower works but is not very adjustable and for someone tall I can’t stand under it. Let’s never talk about the free shower gel, it appears to have the same properties as turpentine.
30 mins free WiFi included daily - how very generous- but never ever worked all week. I am supposed to be working this week, right? Guess I will have to spank my own data then.
Breakfast at Travelodge? Just don’t. Never. Ever. If you are going to do it so badly, why bother? Dry. Very limited choice. No orange juice. Supermarket sliced bread. There are loads of places to get breakfast in Liverpool. Central Exchange Street Travelodge should never be one of them.
But the real treat. The final surprise, is that Travelodge no longer make the bed up in your room. You can leave a tag on your door at which point they will come in to the room and leave fresh towels and a toilet roll. But making the bed is now delegated to the paying guest.
I was always an infrequent guest at Travelodge. I won’t ever be staying with this chain again.
Avoid.
Room was a great size
Bedding, Bathroom, Service was average
Good location, only around 5-10min walk from anywhere you want to go
NCP Moorfields parking was 2-3 mins away, which the Travelodge provides a discount.
No one is at the desk, so you have to wait until someone comes out which is a pain. Had to wait a bit.
The “clean my room” door hooks state “Hang this out by 11am if you want ur room/towels cleaned” - which did not happen. So kinda pointless for those then.
Overall decent stay, if you prefer better bedding and better service then this is not the place for you. Otherwise decent.
There was no mention of what time breakfast was the following morning, and if i hadn't have asked we wouldn't have been told by the person checking us in on reception. Also, the car parking wouldn't have been explained if i hadn't have asked. Also, the car park is probably 5 minutes walk to the travelodge. We get to the room that has supposedly been cleaned ready and there is a hair bobble underneath one of the children's beds. A business card for the indian restaurant around the corner on the shelf behind the double bed, and we have two towels for a family of 4. So the room obviously wasn't ready as it hadn't been fully cleaned and refilled for the next guests. I have to get extra towels from housekeeping who are cleaning the room opposite ours. There were no bath mats in the room which meant that we had to use one of the towels on the floor to make it safe for stepping into and out of the bath. When the towel was picked up off the floor it was covered in hair and fluff so the bathroom floor hadn't been cleaned properly. There was one lift working the whole time we were there. Sometimes that meant that there was quite a wait as due to covid guidance you should only use the lift with your own family group. Breakfast was very poor the next morning. Luckily (or not) for us breakfast was only available to hotel residents who had booked in advance. To be honest, i think i'd have been better off not bothering and getting breakfast somewhere in liverpool because it wasn't particularly thrilling. We were told that breakfast was served between 7am and 10am with it being a week day. So we went to get breakfast around 9am. It looked as though it had been sat there since 7am to be honest, the food was aired, it certainly wasn't hot. The sausages were chewy, the bacon was hard and dried up. The coffee machine was out of order, which meant that you were left with the cheap coffee and a kettle which had been taken from one of the rooms.
After checking in reasonably easily but not without a minor hitch, we were assigned rooms on the sixth floor. However, one of the two lifts was out of service, so the majority of the journeys in the lift consisted of stopping more than once before reaching our required level to accommodate other guests. To be fair to the hotel, any lift problems are hardly their fault & can only be rectified as quickly as the lift company can get out to them.
If this was the sum of all the problems, it would not have warranted a mention, but unfortunately the problems stacked up.
Our room was on the small size but appeared practical. If only the same could be said of the bathroom door that had its catch & lock totally missing. Trying for a little privacy was difficult as the door insisted on swinging open, the only real solution was propping it shut with a bottle of shower gel. The coffee making machine appeared not to be working, the mugs were far too big to fit underneath the device but at least the kettle worked so making drinks the conventional way was an option.
There was no air conditioning in the room which became very stuffy at night. There was a fan provided but this just circulated the warm air with little effect & the noise, while quiet on the lowest setting, was hardly an aid to fall asleep. On opening the window, the constant city noises were no better, especially from around early morning with lorries banging, glass collections & even some maintenance work in the Street below. The only redeeming feature were the soft pillows that allowed some comfort for the near sleepless nights.
We decided to have a meal in the hotel restaurant, but like the rest of our stay, regretted it. The restaurant was very much like a canteen rather than a pub or bar setting. We were advised our food would take over 30 minutes to arrive, despite the number of people in the room being less than the digits on one hand. The food itself was bland & terribly overpriced, especially as there was a pub about 50 yards away that offered better quality food for less money. If only we had discovered that first.
Overall, this is one of the worst Travelodge's we have had the displeasure of staying at & it is not a recommendation to stop here but instead find another hotel, even if it means paying a little more. You won't regret it.
