Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I absolutely loved the room, very spacious, clean and had everything that I needed. I can't think of one fault which is saying something. A very delightful stay, great start to our trip especially being it our first time in the city. Will look to book again.

Stayed for one night with group of girls for my 30th birthday, perfect location for food and bars. I mean could hear noise from bars etc but really not that big of an issue, same with the flight of stairs as we was on 5th floor but wasn’t a problem! Staff were great! Definitely recommend and will be going back again!!!

So disappointed with our stay here, staff were very unhelpful and rude. Our door to the hotel room wouldn’t lock, we notified staff and their response was ‘why have you got cash we can nick in there’ They told us they would change the lock and when we came back from our evening out the lock was hanging off the door. This was in no way safe at all, we all felt very vulnerable. Loud music was played all night and the room was in no way clean. Very very disappointed and definitely do not recommend.

DO NOT use this company, bought a gift voucher for 2 course meal, room and full English breakfast. When rang to book was told the company had gone into administration and the only hotel left for vouchers was the Arthouse. Constant phone calls went unanswered, when finally got through we were told they don't have a restaurant anymore so can't offer 2 course meal and only continental breakfast. They offered to us Prosecco and other freebies in the room. No confirmation email sent, more calls trying to get through and promises to look into it and call back. Never happened. After weeks of being messed around finally got through and received a email confirming booking. Stayed last night, No rose PETALS, prosecco or other freebies promised in the room on arrival, had to chase up the procecco which took 1 1/2 hours to arrive. When booking in was told they own the Alma de Cuba and the can book a table for us, if that is true why wasn't the meal transfered there! No continental breakfast either this morning and no answer on phone at reception when we phoned twice and when we asked at reception, the kitchen staff had been and gone so nothing!!! Very disappointing this weekend. Been promised a phone call in the week after completing a review form, I won't hold my breathe. The room was also looking shabby and windows didn't close properly so very noisy. The only good point I can think of, is the location to shopping, bars and nightlife but be prepared for zero sleep due to the noise.

These people DO NOT answer emails or calls when you have an issue. If you read most of these reviews, they all say the same. Dated apartments, windows don’t close, no kitchen equipment…..I could go on. Our biggest issue was the ‘30th’ party which started at 4am next door to us and woke all 16 of us up. We were told ‘you shouldn’t have booked a party place’ I’ve been ringing and emailing for weeks and tbh it’s just not worth my time or effort. They are extremely unprofessional, don’t waste your money.

Myself and 3 friends travelled for the first time to The Shankley Hotel. We stayed for 2 nights on 22 July 22. We had an amazing time. My review here is basically to praise the Manager of the hotel Ciara, whom we had a close connection with as she was from our hometown N. Ireland and we instantly all clicked with her. She was extremely informative about the whereabouts in Liverpool, where we should go, what to do, and arranged our taxi to take us there and be looked after by the manager at Alma de Cuba. Ciara gave us her number to contact her if we had any trouble getting back to hotel. The next day we seen her again that evening and she had a great presence about her in the front reception area, she got us tables and advised us that she would be able to keep our luggage for us the next t day when checking out to allow us to go shopping. She then supplied us with a welcome shot for each. She came to wish us all the best the next day and if we were coming back to hotel to give her a shout and she would kindly arrange for us. I felt she was a great asset to the hotel making our stay even more enjoyable. We would definitely be visiting the hotel again very soon and would highly recommend.

Stayed in the Iconic Apartments for the weekend for a hen do. You have to check in at a different hotel (The Arthouse) and pay a security deposit, we had to pay £500. The lady on reception was a bit rude. When we got to the apartments it wasn’t actually clear where the “Iconic” ones were as on the door it says Masonic and when you go in and up the stairs you can only see the Masonic and New York apartments, you have to keep walking round to find the Iconic apartments. The room I stayed in had no plug sockets and the shower went from freezing one minute to scolding the next. There’s also a very loud fan that sounds like a plane that comes on every 10/15 mins, not good when you’re trying to sleep. One of the rooms smelt of drains when we first arrived we had to air the room out as the smell wasn’t pleasant. The kitchen/dining/living area was clean and spacious, we had everything we needed. We were provided with clean towels and the cleaners did come in (not sure what they actually did though). The place is a bit battered, could do with a few touch ups here and there! The bottomless brunch that was included in our package was great. It was at the Shankly Hotel. We had afternoon tea and LOTS of prosecco. All in one it wasn’t a terrible stay but for how much we paid it 100% could of been better.

A group of us booked a suite pre pandemic for a university reunion weekend. During covid the hotel told me I had to rebook and to pick any date for the time being and they would accommodate once everything opened back up. Fast forward a year and we were unable to attend and wanting to move the date (as promised we could!) I emailed and called MULTIPLE times to change the booking. No response. No one came back to my messages or emails. I called every day in the lead up to the rebook date and didn't manage to speak to anyone who could help. I kept being told someone would contact me. The date passed and the hotel kept our £750 deposit and continued to ignore my emails. Absolutely disgraceful customer service. Would not recommend this place, they will take your money and not offer any form of customer service.

Stayed at one of the hotels by signature living - where do I start!!! Had a pre-booked meal on the Friday night for 6.00 pm, at 8.30 we received our desserts before the rest of our meals, which they got completely wrong, how when we sent our orders in 7 days before, oh yes the meal wasn't in our hotel it like we were led to believe but was a 20 minute walk away. We were told our breakfast would be in a sister hotel just around the corner - wrong that was also in another hotel 15 minutes away. The room, okay it was a rather tired room, bedding and towels were clean. Only 1 power shower worked. The second power shower, the main shower did not work, but the smaller one did, however, to shampoo your hair or have a wash you had to hold the shower between your knees which got burnt or frozen, as the holder was broken. The roman bath should have been a beautiful blue instead the bottom was brown, dont think it had been cleaned properly since the first lockdown or at all. There were lots of tiles missing which people could have easily cut/injure their toes/feet. Oh gosh, I've bored myself but there's more to say I'm afraid ...
