Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Well after the negative views, all I can agree with yes it’s dated but nothing else wrong with it.Apparently getting a re fit end of April.15 of us in 4 bedrooms no complaints. In ours two double beds wardrobe which had an iron and ironing board ,clothes hangers in mirror,a seperate kitchen and a separate bathroom with jacuzzi bath and miniature bottles of shower gel.Breakfast very good, fruit juice coffee tea ,continental and full English, all help yourself. All friendly staff from reception to housekeeping.Well done.

The worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Communal areas were dirty, stains on the carpet and a smell of damp. Stayed in a family room and wow. The wardrobe was tilting forward as the wall brackets had fallen out, the bathroom was mouldy, sink cracked and the toilet flush was broken, the sofa had numerous large rips and the carpet had a hole.in it, the room was freezing! With only a small portable fan heater, the carpet hadn't been cleaned. The lights were tempremental. The beds were unbearably uncomfortable, the pillow was flatter than a pancake, the sheets didn't fit the bed. The "sofa bed" was literally a mattress in the hole under the cushions. There were holes in the walls and the windows were so filthy you couldn't see out. Generally poor finish all over. I will say, the location was central and the staff were friendly!

Room Tip: Pack thick pjs and a coat for bedtime. Don't expect a shower as the bathroom was disgusting.

If I could give this hotel a zero, I would. We booked for 2 nights, but checked out after 1 following a series of issues. The morning after our 1st night, our shower would not drain, our heating was stuck on cold ( was told on complaining all heating was broken but not told on arrival), our room was not serviced at all. Only clean towels. Our bin was not emptied, bed not made, condiments not refreshed and dirty towels not removed. No apology . The hotel is very tired & grubby with staff who were pleasant but unhelpful . The only positive was the location . Not worth the money

Family trip with my grandson, booked the Luxury Suite for a treat! Horrified to return to apartment after football match, absolutely drenched and freezing to find that the room had no heat!! In fact the entire apartment block had no heat! No hot water and the apartment was stinking! Beds not make properly and the glasses in kitchen hadn’t been washed! Carpet filthy and every item of furniture broken! Literally no words I have never stayed in worse and it was not cheap! A hostel would have been better How these apartments are getting away with this is incredible Save your money as this place should be closed down

We checked in and were allocated Room no 44, the walls in the room were mouldy and the bedding felt damp. We reported this at reception, the lady on reception was really nice but did not seem surprised by what I was telling her. She said that they were full booked and wasn't sure what to do, after a couple of minutes looking on her system, she allocated us a second room, which was next door - room 45, oh my life upon opening the door I nearly fell, the smell that came from the room was awful - my explanation ''rotten eggs'', my husband said it was Sulphur!, I went back to reception and she then told me to try room 206 - went in - the curtains were handing off the pole, the bedding again felt damp, the carpet had not been hoovered in a while, bathroom mouldy and the kitchen work tops were awful. Reported this to reception and checked out! We then stayed elsewhere!

Had to carry pram and suitcases up hotel steps, but check in was easy enough. Came with my husband and our 1 year old and 3 year old. Their 1st time away in a city..! So we thought we'd push the boat out and book the "presidential suite".... Not ones to complain, but wow. Room stunk of urine, stains all over the carpet.. Kids were picking up manky chips and god knows what!🤮Kettle didn't work, tried to complain as we went out for our booked meal, but reception was crazy with people checking in! No no hit water to warm any milk for the kids bedtimes..they couldn't have a bath till the morning as the there wasn't enough light at all above the big bath, pitch black at night. Crap all on the floor under that too.. Steam room bit didn't work in shower, shower basically just dripped..heating....not working..2 electric heaters placed in the room, WITH A 1 YEAR OLD AND 3 YEAR OLD RUNNING AROUND! Nothing mentioned on booking. Checked out earlier and was told by the guy at reception to send an email of complaint and we'd have a response... Over a week ago sent 2 emails heard nothing still!! Seems to me they're just grabbing what money they can before they shut for the refurb, which is absolutely shocking! Horrible night for our kids 1st night in Liverpool. Such a shame! I try ringing next about the emails I sent probably still won't hear anything. Waste of £200😪

As a frequent business and leisure traveller I've experienced many different hotels and I can honestly say that on Satuurday 10 February I stayed in probably the worst. Musty, damp, unclean room with stained carpets, on the stairs leading to our room and inside the room. Bed sheet too small for the mattress, layers of dust on top of the wardrobes, suggested room had not been ckeanedc properly for several wweeks, oh and no spoons for tea and coffee making. When checking in I was asked to pay £100 security deposit which would be refunded back to my card within 4-15 days! Overall a very tired looking hotel which is over promising on its website which claims '34 James Street is a cut above the rest, offering luxury accommodation'. Our night out in Liverpool, by comparison, was fantastic.

We have been coming to 30 James Street since around 2016. It’s a real shame to see how downhill it has become however we both understand it will be going through new renovations soon. Our most recent visit was an all round satisfactory visit. No bath plug and asked 3 different times for a plug, in the end the jacuzzi bath didn’t even work, upon inspection of making the bath I found brown dirt around the overflow of the tub. No wifi to the TV (even tried hot spotting from our device) so we could not access any accounts such as Netflix. Bed was uncomfortable with a dip in the middle. Room was really cold. Tea coffee and kettle available but no spoons… Could hear our neighbours down the corridor at 4am Our previous visit to this was November 2022 and everything was perfect, no fault to the room (presidential at the time) As I say, I’ve watched the hotel become a stray from its first self and it’s sad to see how dirty and unpolished the actual hotel itself is. Such as the red carpet on the stairs with stains, you can tell this has now become a “it’s getting ripped up anyway so leave it” kind of mood now. Thing is, the staff to this hotel have always been amazing. We can never ever say a bad word about the staff, from bar tenders across the years at carpathia to reception staff, everyone is so kind, thoughtful and always so jolly. We are still sad to see cocktails in carpathia become “normal modern everyday” cocktails. We used to love the booklet of different variations that were named after the actual titanic (both real and film), our personal favourites were the white star martini, heart of the ocean and captain smith. I hope to see the old white star line in the new lease of life in the renovations. Hopefully the new owners keep the idea of rooms named after titanic icons and guests, such as Guggenheim room and detailing to the guests whom mr and Mrs Guggenheim were etc…. I don’t wish to slander the hotel as I have always loved it and always look forward to coming back. We will be visiting once the hotel reopens after renovations and hope to be wowed again. Good luck to all the staff during their times in renovations and see you next year. Ps, please please keep the large tub in the presidential it’s a beautiful setting.

My husband had booked us this room for us for our anniversary. It was decorated with balloons and Prosecco which was a lovely touch. The staff were nice enough. However the room was FREEZING! There was a tiny heater in the room which we had to use all night and it still Baltic. The plug in the hot tub did not work and there was faeces on the towel provided. Would not recommend this hotel.
