With a prime location just four miles from Liverpool city centre and five minutes from the M62 we're in easy reach of many great attractions. The Childwall Abbey Hotel is an extraordinary building in a beautiful location, the exact origins of the Childwall Abbey Hotel remain a mystery but the commonly held belief is that the original Abbey building dates as far back as the Domesday Book. The building has been sympathetically restored and now offers seven comfortable bedrooms. A stay at the Childwall Abbey Hotel offers a memorable experience, from the rumoured haunting of a 15th century ghost, to the tap room which hosted The Beatles in their former incarnation as The Quarrymen, the Childwall Abbey is steeped in Liverpool's rich and diverse cultural history. The Childwall Abbey is not just a hotel, but a traditional pub too. Serving proper pub grub, pints of cask ale, refreshing glasses of wine and a great selection of spirits and soft drinks, there's something for everyone.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights and found it adequate. Certainly no more than that.
Where do I start. Perhaps with the very loud foul and I mean loud foul cursing from an ante room . The staff ignored this and to be honest, they should have closed the door so that everyone else was not subjected to that. Bathroom around the shower needs a right good clean, it would take ten minutes with a small brush. Christmas tinsel still on the carpet in the bedroom. Not sure which disturbed us most during the night, the barking dog or the banging doors. In any event, both these problems can be resolved if there was any care for customers.
We ate in the pub and the food was ok but the cutlery was quite dirty. While we were eating, a man was climbing around us taking down the decorations. There was a bulb out in the ceiling lighting and this was just another example of the sloppiness
Parking was great and very convenient but I certainly would not stay there again.
I would say it is the worst establishment we have stayed at least in the last 20 years and we travel extensively Such a pity as the building is beautiful and this could be a fabulous venue if it was run properly with a bit of attention to detail. One other point, our booking included bottled water in the room but this was not provided

A friendly welcome, a very comfortable, clean room with good bedding, towels etc,, It’s an ideal location if you want a traditional pub stay in a leafy area with lovely woodland walks only an easy drive, simple bus route or enjoyable longer walk into the city centre. No frills but staff eager to please and overall good value. Good parking on site too.

The Abbey is a great pub. The range of ales is good and it’s got a pleasant vibe and outdoor garden seated area.

I’ve eaten here 3 times, including this most recent visit. The menu promises decent quality fare, but the house doesn’t deliver.

For example, tonight’s lasagne was delivered with a side salad that had been under the heated pass long enough to wilt lettuce and break down the tomatoes.

The food service was functional. I was left hanging after asking for condiments and had to go search out bar staff after 5 minutes.

There was no ‘check back’ during the meal, or when the plates were cleared, even with an untouched side salad.

Dog friendly, which is the reason for repeat visits. I’ll stick to the liquid over lunch in future.

Called into our local yesterday which we have supported over the years and will continue to do so even more through this awkward time. Dave and his staff are lovely people and are trying their hardest but the meal is not as 'affordable' as we would like. Maybe during this period Head Office could think up a 'value for money ' bowl of scouse and crusty bread or a bowl of curry with naan or basic pizza to keep the locals coming in. We will try to get in more often.

I appreciate you value your customer's comments so I'll be honest. I read reviews online which looked promising before my arrival at childwall abbey which is even more disappointing because my experience was not positive.

First of all I noticed a massive red stain on the carpet in my room. I woke up on the morning of Saturday 26th June and noticed specks of blood on the bed sheets which I had housekeeper change. Honestly guys (Disgusting)

I ordered a drink at the bar 22:36 Saturday 26th of June, I was given flat coke with my whiskey 🙃.

Then the kicker half past 8 on a Monday morning I'm rudely awakened by a drill at half past 8.
Staff are not very attentive.

Safe to say I won't be returning to Childwall Abbey Hotel

Sunday lunch awful didn't even come with mash potatoes the carrots wernt peeled and cooked to death.
Noisey toilets kept me awake toilet makes a loud noise when refilling
Stain on mattress protector as well truly a dive. AVOID

We stayed here after a very long drive up from Essex. Nothing was available that we wanted on the menu, it advertised roast dinners but none were available, very few options. When the food came it was cold then we were told no desserts were being served due to staff shortages.
The room was clean but no heating in the room and the electric heater didn’t work. A bad smell in the room as a problem with drainage. Very noisy all night long due to the water system and we were woken at 5am when people in the room next door were having a shower, the gushing and pumping noises went on for ages, seriously you couldn’t make this up!!
We went down for breakfast this morning and there was no sign of anyone but the cleaner, she told us the kitchen staff weren’t in so no breakfast was being served.
Very disappointed with the overall experience and would definitely not recommend.

Hi Steve, I'm sorry to hear about your stay. I have investigated some of your issues and have retrained the team on these issues. We are also working hard behind the scenes correct other issues highlighted but as you can imagine with a listed building, some of the noise can be dificult to correct. Thanks DL

Been once when it reopened up from COVID. Sat outside for food, I was sat at a table that was broken, and it only had two sides so this made it very wobbly. I had to ask if it was okay for us to move to an other table.

After ordering my drink and food I was asked to pay before I even received the food or drink, when in the mean time I witnessed other surrounding tables paying after the meal.

My meal was put on an other table that ordered after me, and then they come out to me with the same meal which half of the the items on the plate. When I asked the staff about this he said he forgot, which I clearly heard him before telling the other table the some items where missing, due to running out, but that table agreed to still having the food that they ordered. So when I said I didn’t want what I was given, and that the other table had got my food, he took the meals back and said the other staff will tuck into them.

During this time I witnessed the table next to me asking for different cutlery due to the ones they had been given was dirty (thankfully mine wasn’t)
So no I will not be going here again. I am not one for leaving reviews but this was beyond a joke!

Hotel looks beautiful from the outside but that was the highlight of the visit.
Checked in at 19:00 to be told restaurant was about to close so we had to order food immediately. We were lucky to get any food at all but that might have been a blessing with hindsight. Only about half the food listed on the menu was available in the evenings, remainder being lunch food. Very uninspiring pub menu overall. Very poor quality scampi, chips and peas, all from the freezer. No tartar sauce. No lime cordial to have lime and lemonade.
Room small but good size bed. Just a shower, no bath. Worst aspect of the hotel of the hotel was water pumps in bathrooms and everyone else’s bathroom. Incredibly noisy every time toilet flushed or wash basin or shower emptied in our room and all other rooms!! This was unacceptable even in an older building and needs sorting.
Breakfast didn’t start until 07:30 so my partner missed out as he had to leave earlier. No menu just a “what do you want?” Simple breakfast ordered with toast but no butter available just nasty margarine. Please please restock your kitchen and bar.
Overall a very disappointing stay and only redeemed by being handy for work. Would rather travel further to work than stay here again however.

Called in for a drink with 3 other people at 8pm on a Friday night. Bar area was full of used unwashed glasses. The only free tables were also full of used glasses. We had to clear a table ourselves and wipe it down. Nobody was pot collecting.
Male toilets had five buckets under the urinals and floor was awash with water/pee? and lots of paper towels soaking up the fluid. Everything looked and felt dirty shabby and certainly unhygienic. With COVID still prevalent these conditions are unacceptable.

I stayed at the Childwall Abbey Hotel on Monday 17th May and was delighted by every aspect of my stay.

Checking in was simple and efficient and the room was clean and comfortable with sensible Covid related measures in place.

The arrangements for breakfast were flexible and the food - I treated myself to the Big Breakfast - was delicious.

Checkout was as straightforward as check in, and the Manager Dave Lee was polite, professional and positive in responding to my request for future bookings over the next 18 months.

The last fifteen months can't have been easy for Dave and his team and I'm sure that ensuring Covid compliance will have added several levels of complexity to reopening the hotel. It didn't show and every member of staff was friendly and helpful to make my first trip of 2021 a very pleasurable one.
