This was our third visit to the shankly hotel. Our first visit was before the takeover and was a more attentive experience. However, we have returned twice and still enjoyed our visit. Our latest visit was in February. We were given a room on the fifth floor. The room looked lovely and was very clean. The room had two baths and no shower. No great problem but a shower would’ve been much better for us and our needs. Filling both baths (we were unable to fill one at a time) meant we had to rush and allow the next person to bathe and then repeat the process. The baths did take some time to fill! Also, the only bin was a very small one in the bathroom. Asked the maid for a bin bag so was able to collect our rubbish but a bin in the room should be a basic requirement. Our only other issue was there are no opening windows in the room which was stifling during the night. We did have a fan but it didn’t make much difference. Overall, we have a great weekend away and would still return. The hotel is in a great location and looks great. The rooms look better than your standard travelodge/premier inn. We will definitely be back.

If i could've rated this hotel with zero stars I would've done! Awful hotel, really dark and in some serious need of TLC. We were in room 422 and which was a "themed" room apparently although there didn't appear to be any theme to the room at all apart from scruffy and unkempt. We could hear hear seagulls and pigeons above us in the morning, the bed was uncomfortable, the room was dropping to pieces and the flooring was all chipped and some of it was raised Asif it had suffered water damage. The stairway walking down to the car park absolutely stunk too. Would never EVER go back to this hotel. Avoid at all costs unless you're young and only want to party and don't care about the state of the room you're staying in. Very disappointed and underwhelmed.

Stayed for one night on a Wowcher deal and was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews. We found the hotel to be very clean, the rooms are huge, our room had two extra large double beds. The decor is really luxurious which makes a nice change from some hotels which are cold and minimilist. Staff are helpful and friendly and could not fault the food, excellent choice for breakfast.

We stayed here for a 21st trip to Liverpool with 26 other women, we got two rooms of 9 and a room of 7. The room was spacious and very clean especially for so many people sharing together, from reading other reviews I was expecting it to be very loud but we couldn’t hear much from other rooms at all considering one room we walked past in the corridor had the music very loud so zero complaints from us, hotel could use a bit of TLC, the wall paper was peeling a bit and some parts of the wooden floor was worn, and we had to slam the bathroom door to get it to close. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay and 100% would come back. Hotel is very central and a close walk to shopping and bars.

READ BEFORE BOOKING - Stay 19/01 My girlfriend booked this as present for a night away in Liverpool, after seeing the photos and videos on tiktok about this hotel. The experience started well, when we arrived early and the hotel promptly took our bags and took our details before we wandered around the city and went out for dinner. and that's where the positives end. Upon returning to the hotel to check-in, we were given our keys and when making our way to the room (i believe 401) we noticed that the decoration looked quite tired in some of the corridors and bin bags had been left in the middle of some of these same corridors. When we got to our room, we realised we had been given something completely different, without the hot tub (as per the room we had booked), and with a distinctive smell of cigarettes in the bathroom, and to top it off, someone else's socks were on the floor. I spoke to a staff member (who I now know is Adam Garvey, the reception manager) at reception, who advised "the layout may differ because you went through booking.com and they only have one photo". This was not a layout issue, it was a different room. They kept trying to blame booking.com, but at no point it is advertised that the rooms may vary when booking there. It is Shankly's responsibility to ensure the information on booking.com is accurate, especially when these third party websites will undoubtedly drive most of their traffic. We were then told that they were fully booked and that I'd have to wait until 8pm/9pm to find out whether there'd be any cancellations so that we could be moved to a different room. This was obviously unnacceptable as we were only staying for one night. We refused to stay at the hotel and were forced to leave as our room wasn't fit for purpose, with other people's belongings and a foul smell present, and no other room available. My girlfriend who had planned this, was visibly upset at reception and there was no empathy shown by the staff. We were refunded, which we appreciate, and I raised a complaint, in which I requested that we're also compensated with £85 which was the cost of travel to and from Liverpool for a break that didn't happen due to the hotel not providing the service advertised, and was then given a ridiculous response by Adam Garvey, claiming it was our decision to leave the hotel and and that they had offered us a room and therefore would not compensate us for our travel costs, despite admitting in the same email that the level of cleanliness and attention to detail was not acceptable. The experience was handled atrociously and I will be raising this to trading standards as The Shankly Hotel is in clear breach of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 as their consumer suffered financial loss resulting from their breach of agreement.

Horrendous food and staff attitude!! Apparently if the chef says it’s ok, it’s edible and you’re paying for it!!! Such a shame we had a great check in and room but paid £112 begrudgingly for some fat. See pic. Complained and was told chef said it was ok. I wasn’t asking his opinion I was giving him his food back!!

We had been looking forward to this visit as my husband is a Hugh Liverpool fan and always wanted to stay here. We did visit 6 years ago but only for a meal and we were really impressed. So, as hhe had finished his cancer treatment we decided to treat ourselves. It was so disappointing we were in a very dark room with two hugh pillars at the foot of the bed, one only about 18ins from the edge of the bed. There was also a stand alone TV in the room with legs that stuck out a foot either side. As we are both 76 these were obvious trip hazards. The bathroom needed a good deep clean as the tiles were discoloured and dirty. The whole room was tired and needed a good clean. We asked about an evening meal but even though we were a party of 10 we were told, because it was Monday, we should have booked in advance! We had a drink before we left for the evening but when we returned at 10pm the bar was closed and there was no one to serve us. I have emailed the hotel and, although I have asked twice for a response I have not received one. We have stayed in Liverpool numerous times in a variety of hotels and I would say that The Shankley is one I would not recommend to anyone at least until it's refurbished.

I booked the luxury room that sleeps four. This was for my birthday. I saw the pictures and rooms on Instagram and thought it’d be a nice place to celebrate. I was massively disappointed. The tiles in the bathroom were yellow. The jacuzzi was dirty. The bed sheets were dirty which we requested they change. We asked if we could change rooms but, they said the state of tiles and room is due to normal ‘wear and tear’ and, they can’t offer another room. Also the TV does not work and the wifi is not great. The staff were nice and friendly and the location is close to the city, station etc.

Started the stay by having to queue to check in. This must have taken 45 mins and when handed our key there was no ‘sorry about the wait’. The room was old and dated. The bare minimum furniture, unable to connect to WiFi, unable to use Netflix on the TV. It was rather dirty, especially the bathroom. Tiles were dirty and gaps in them, floor and ceilings dirty. I bought the room with the intention to enjoy a nice relaxing evening, have a luxury bath and that wasn’t the case, as didn’t want to use the bath. Shower was okay, but sprayed onto the floor. A big damp patch was visible above the beds. The noise of the hotel is horrendous. We could hear everything going on outside on the street, but inside was worse. A hen party must have been going on either next door, above or below but this felt like it was in our room. Shouting, screaming, bottles popping, music playing and this went into the early hours. I’m pregnant and just needed my sleep and to get away for one night. We had to move and sleep in the single beds to try get far away from the noise and had to leave the tele on all night to drown the sound out. Breakfast was okay, but some hot options were missing, no small plates, no white bread. The most shocking was there was no decaf coffee available, either in the rooms or at breakfast, normally I wouldn’t have even thought, but being pregnant I needed decaf. Decaf tea was available. We will not be returning, if you are coming to party I can see why, but not for sleeping or relaxing.

Hotel is in a convenient location, 5 minute walk from the train station, room was okay but felt for the price it was underwhelming, very dated throughout the hotel and room, fixtures and fittings hanging by a thread and water damage visible on the ceiling of our room. 2 families next to us had to be moved because they had no hot water. breakfast was nice and had a good sleep but feel that it’s overpriced and not worth the £120 for one night that we paid, lot better hotels with better value for money in the city
