Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked a ground floor room mainly because my 94 y/o mother struggles with stairs. We were allocated a first floor room. I complained to the inadequate man in charge on our arrival but he offered no solution to the problem. The shower was tiny and on our departure he wanted to charge us £10 car parking fee which was not due. I have emailed proof that I was booking a ground floor family room but the hotel made no attempt to rectify the situation. Instead of a pleasant weekend stay it turned out to be a nightmare

Balham Lodge is in a perfect location. Balham is lively and fun with lots of restaurants and easy access to public transit to get anywhere. The staff are warm and welcoming. The rooms are smaller than most US hotel rooms though there are two public spaces if you want to spread out a bit. We enjoyed staying here and highly recommend it.

Small shower very difficult for larger people. Mattress very old and uncomfortable. Cleanliness, staff, and location were great. 10 minute walk to train or catch bus outside of door. No longer serves breakfast Laundry service on site was useful. Enjoyed our stay.

Our second stay here and won’t be the last. A great location for visiting London and in a nice area. Comfortable rooms and beds. Friendly and welcoming. Only a short stroll onto the common and you can get a good breakfast at the Tooting Bec cafe there. Handy street parking which is free over the weekend.

The mattresses were worn down to the springs and the blankets were paper-thin and appeared to be very old. They list themselves as a Bed & Breakfast on their website, however, we were informed upon arrival that the Management no longer wished to provide breakfast. I asked for a refund and was refused. My children and I had to call a cab and find another hotel for the remainder of our stay in London. We were charged the full amount and are now disputing the charges. Beds are NOT fit for sleeping.

Honestly I'm tempted to give 5 stars but it just needs a little improving. The place itself is really beautiful and the staff were really friendly. Clean sheets and nice and warm. The downside was that I was in room 18 the last room on the top floor... This means little water pressure and no hot water, I would also recommending replacing the pillows, sleeping without it was more comfortable. Would I stay again... Yes but id bring my own pillow.

Stayed at the lodge with my mum for one night and honestly cannot fault a single thing about this stay. The staff were lovely and welcoming, and went above and beyond to make our stay run smoothly and comfortably. The room was truly stunning and very spacious. We will definitely be returning next time we are in london, thank you all :)

Staff I met were friendly however in the morning after our trip I was making the bed and noticed old blood stains all over the duvet as well as many other marks. The manager of hotel has refused to give a refund and is now ignoring my emails completely. Expedia are not being helpful either. I am very disappointed at the poor customer service and failing of hotel on hygiene.

There was enough space in bedroom. The bed was not that comfortable. Fortunately, the heating kept the room warm as the duvet was thin. The sheet on the bed was wearing thin with a few small holes. The second night I noticed another sheet had been added? Did they forget to put one on the first night? We were given just 1 thin pillow each. I would have thought two each as standard would have been better. The long black hairs on the bedsheets and in the sink put me off. The toilet did not look clean. However, everything else seemed clean. The room is not sound proof. Low traffic noise but lots of noisy guests in the surrounding bedrooms could be heard. It is worth noting that there is no breakfast provided. However, I understand that there is a kitchen downstairs that can be used. The reception staff seemed friendly. Parking is on a first come first served basis at £10 per day. However, on street parking is free at the weekend. Would I stay again? Yes. But only for a few days not a full week.

There are NO opening windows or air conditioning in the building You WILL COOK. There is a portable fan in the room.....A little like haveing a fan assisted oven,it moves the hot air around The manager was very helpful and did all he could. 3 night stay..... Sadley if it hot will could not stay here as we have had little or no sleep. When visiting your children who live in Balham we will need to find alternative options.
