Inspired by old world design and the glory of British craftsmanship, The Pilgrm brings a sense of provenance to today's modern traveller. We believe in bringing people together and that genuine hospitality is seamless, generous and graceful. At our core, we’re individuals simply driven by making something that was once beautiful, beautiful again. The Pilgrm offers a refreshing break from the ordinary. Each room has been sensitively designed to reflect the building’s original time and place. We aim to deliver the warmest guest experience of today, with the finest British craftsmanship of yesterday. Sensitively pared back, one of the most striking design features of our bedrooms is the 200-year-old parquet flooring that beautifully frames the bed and bedsides. With a nod to yesterday’s craftsmanship, it creates a modern, yet vintage charm. Our first-floor lounge and terrace are open daily from 7am - 10:30 pm to both guests and visitors.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

This is a very unique property. There is no traditional check-in desk and, arriving later in the evening, we needed to be let in the door but were promptly checked in by an employee on a laptop in the lounge area. Finding your room, and then finding your way back to the lobby via stairs, can be a comical challenge (it wasn't until our third day we figured out how to use the stairs correctly). The lift barely fits two with any luggage. I booked the largest room available which specified a king bed but unless a European king is the same as a North American double, we did not receive a king. We knew the rooms would be small, and that they are. The "large" room was smaller than any New York City hotel room I'd been in. One very small shelf in the bathroom to keep toiletries (not enough for 2 people), though the shower was nice with great pressure and bathroom itself was functional. The location was extremely convenient to Paddington, staff we interacted with were friendly, and the complimentary still/sparkling water was a great touch. For approximately $260 USD/night, I don't think I would stay again due to the size and lack of air conditioning though leaving the window cracked at night (we were not there on a weekend) left the room bearable but always damp. If a 3.5 was possible, I would rate it there. In winter as a solo traveler, I would likely revisit.

Hi there shafeman556, Thanks for leaving your thoughts with us - I'm pleased to know that you felt well looked after by our team and of course made use of our convenient location during your time here! While our check-in desk is not akin to that which many are used to, we are always on the lookout for new arrivals to ensure that they are guided promptly to where they need to be. I'm pleased to read that our night manager was able to check you into your rooms swiftly. We are fortunate enough to be home to our beautifully traditional Victorian-era staircases and long winding corridors, although I appreciate that this may sometimes cause some confusion when navigating to our guests' rooms. Our team are always more than happy to assist with directions where required. We do make the sizes of our rooms as clear as possible on our website but I appreciate that this may not be clear enough in some instances. With regards to the beds in our large rooms, a number have king beds inside them. Some have doubles, however, so it may be the case that you were assigned one of these at random. I understand that this may not be suited to everyone's personal tastes. Where our building is a listed property, we are unfortunately unable to install air conditioning units in the rooms. I appreciate that during the hotter months of the year, this would certainly help to combat the elevated temperatures. All the best.

It was a pleasant stay overall. It is a stylish hotel and the room and bathroom were very clean and pleasant enough albeit somewhat cramped. The breakfast/brunch we had was excellent. It was surprising and a little tedious that we had to check in online rather than at the reception albeit the staff were friendly and helpful. The window in our room (Y11) was very draughty so it sometimes felt cold. The hotel must be losing a considerable amount of money by not installing airtight double-glazed windows. The location is very central for Paddington station, Little Venice, the West End, Portobello Road and Notting Hill are within walking distance. If your room faces the street then I recommend ear plugs to block out street noise, especially when the weather is warmer. As others have mentioned, there were no tea or coffee making facilities in our room - there isn't the space!

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are pleased to hear that overall, you had a pleasant stay and enjoyed the stylish ambiance of our hotel, along with the cleanliness of the room and bathroom. We're especially delighted that you found the breakfast/brunch to be excellent. We appreciate your understanding regarding the online check-in process, and we're glad to hear that our staff were friendly and helpful during your stay. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the draughty window in your room. Your suggestion about airtight double-glazed windows is duly noted, and we will explore options to enhance the comfort of our guests. Can be quite a challenge controlling noise which emanates from off of our premises. We do have a number of sleep kits available at reception, all of which contain disposable earplugs should our guests feel this to be a suitable solution. All the best, Anna

Picking this hotel is because of the location as is extremely close to Paddington Station so is just a 2-min walk across the road then you can walk to the train station platform and take Heathrow Express to the airport.
If you have read the hotel website and room description, room size is small as expected. The hotel layout and design is chic and trendy. The staff is very friendly and efficient and the luggage storage room is small so if you have a later check-out time, the hotel may be unable to temporarily store your luggage for the rest of the day.
My only complaint is that my room (W12) is facing London Street on 1/F, so it was very noisy as many beverages and catering delivery happens in the early morning (before 7 am) will wake you up as many restaurants are on the same street.

Hi there MokeyMok, Thanks for leaving your thoughts with us - I'm pleased to read that you made use of our convenient location and that you felt well looked after by our team! It is also always great to know that you were a fan of our overall design features! Unfortunately, noise levels that emanate from off of our premises can be quite a challenge to control, especially given London's dynamic nature. Though we found the location very convenient, the hotel was pure tragedy. On our arrival they explained that any quirk might just be because "it is an old Victorian building." Then the guy said "you'll know what I mean when you get up there." And we did!
It was quite the struggle to get into the room. They only have a tiny elevator in one of the buildings and our room was in another. You have to cross a metal bridge (which you will hear later as you try to sleep) and do several, very confusing steps, to get to what they call "wings."
When we finally got there, we were tired and disappointed. We booked a Medium Sized Room and it didn't have any place to place our bags. You couldn't walk either. Not even a chair or a small couch. We had three regular cabin cases and a big one because we were touring the UK.
Ventilation and air conditioning posed another major issue. The bathrooms lacked any ventilation, relying solely on a small opening in an old window that was difficult to open. After two showers, with no way to regulate the AC, the room became uncomfortably hot.
As an 'eco-friendly' hotel, they limit and charge for housekeeping services, which we were aware of at the time of booking. However, even when the room was serviced, we came back to the same bags and left over bottles.
If you plan to stay there, consider it doesn't have enough staff to help you throughout. They leave someone in charge the whole night without even a place to sit! That is just awful. Also they only have one person at the restaurant to manage all the tables!
Considering the numerous hotel options in London at similar price ranges and better locations, I would recommend avoiding The Pilgrm for now. The inconveniences and discomfort we experienced significantly detracted from our stay.
Maybe they get better in the future! They can start by joining rooms and giving them proper space.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent stay at The Pilgrm. We genuinely appreciate your detailed review, and we sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you encountered during your visit. We are truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. Concerning the size of our rooms, this is something that we make as clear as we possibly can online, but of course, I do appreciate that some may find this clearer than others will. As per our website, we do not offer daily housekeeping services in keeping with our focus on the avoidance of unnecessary waste. We have a housekeeping package which is purchasable at the point of booking or alternatively at any stage of our guests stay with us, and we will always gladly provide fresh towels and toiletries upon request. Typically with stays which are longer in nature, we will offer a complimentary service which can be organised for a day of our guests' choosing. Due to our building's status as a listed property we are unable to install air conditioning units to its exterior. Regarding our service in the Lounge, we would like to inform you that we currently operate with a capacity of 8 tables. In light of this, we have strategically decided to assign one dedicated staff member to manage the floor, ensuring personalized and attentive service for our valued patrons. Regarding staffing concerns, we appreciate your feedback on the availability of staff in different areas of the hotel. We would like to inform you that we always have a minimum of two people on the night shift, maybe they are not visible together all the time, because everyone meticulously performs their duties. In addition, as you can see, our hotel has a lot of seats, from armchairs to sofas. As we do not have a standard reception desk, but the entire area that can be seen as soon as you enter the hotel is our lobby, our team has a lot of freedom in choosing where they sit during their shift. We appreciate the opportunity to learn and grow from your feedback. Warm regards, Anna

The hotel lobby is charming, BUT lacking attention to detail in every aspect possible, and…
1. As others have already mentioned, the hotel is very hot. Even in late October it is almost impossible to get a good nights sleep on the top floor. Not anything anyone can do anything about, but be aware of this fact as you make reservations.
2. No cleaning/change of towels during the stay unless you specifically request it. And maybe there is extra charge for cleaning, difficultly to understand information regarding this on the website? Can the hotel staff maybe clarify this? This information is not presented on booking sites, yet another example of lacking attention to detail that makes you as a guest feel let down and overcharged. 3. Breakfast comes at 14 GBP/person. We are a family with teenagers eating at different times in the morning, and for practical reasons we ordered breakfast upon arrival. We were not presented with any information on the price of breakfast or on how the “breakfast system” works. There is no buffe, instead you order breakfast from a sparse menu where you can order toast with jam but without butter? At check-out we learned that one dish and one drink is included in the breakfast price (often at a lower total sum than 14 GBP). Anything extra, like a glass of juice in addition to a cup of coffee is charged extra!!!! A scam!!!!! Regular coffe is topped up once, but no refill of other types of coffee.
Information on breakfast (apart from the menu) is not present on the hotel website, which makes it extremely difficult to understand since there is no information in the breakfast room/lobby either.
In addition we waited 30 min to get a coffee and a bowl of yoghurt with granola one morning, albeit the breakfast area was not crowded.

Hi there Road586513 Thanks for leaving your thoughts with us - I am sorry to read that your time here didn't quite live up to your expectations this time around. The temperatures in our hotel can at times become somewhat elevated. Due to our hotels status as a listed property we are unfortunately unable to install air conditioning units for our rooms, and so we have a number of fans available for those who require them and during the hotter months of the year these are placed in all of our rooms as a standard. As per our website we do not offer daily housekeeping services in keeping with our focus on the avoidance of unnecessary waste. We do have a housekeeping package which is purchasable at the point of booking or alternatively at any stage of our guests stay with us, and for those stays which are longer in nature we will typically offer a complimentary service. Our team will also gladly provide fresh towels and toiletries upon request. Our breakfast included package which is priced at £14.50 consists of a glass of 100% pure cold pressed apple or orange juice, a choice of tea or one of our specialty coffees and one of our substantial freshly prepared sweet or savoury breakfast options from our breakfast/brunch offering. Any additions will be charged as extras. While we have not included butter on our menu, this does not mean that it is not available - we simply do not charge for this. Although there is a description of what is included in our breakfast package on our website which can be read at the point of adding this package to the booking, we will always be more than happy to explain further should our guests need this clarified again. I do apologise that you experienced a slightly longer waiting time for your breakfast one morning, this is certainly not a standard we aim to set. All the best.

We decided to book the hotel based on a previously successful stay and proximity to Paddington as this was a trip to celebrate our wedding anniversary and a special train journey on the Flying Scotsman on the 21st.
We arrived late pm on the 20th June and allocated a room on the third floor, to say the room was unbearably hot would be an understatement a small fan was in the room but completely ineffective. As others have said for £200 the rooms are very small and there is not storage or shelving so suitcase on the floor!
We went out for dinner and returned to the Pilgrim at approximately 10.00 and thought we would enjoy a drink in the much advertised bar, but found this was closed? Unusual for a bar in a London hotel, so this was disappointing. We then returned to our room which by this time was even hotter. I returned to the Night Manager who very kindly got us a larger fan the only problem being the noise level this created did not enable us to sleep at all well and quite frankly did not help us prepare for our special day on the 21st. That morning I ordered an Earl Grey Team from the coffee bar downstairs, and asked for a slice of lemon which is normally offered with Earl Grey the server had no idea what I was talking about, so I then asked for milk and she bought hot milk! I then attempted to drink the tea which had been served in a large cup with no handle and nearly scalded my hand just not acceptable. I had to ask for the tea to be transferred to a cup.
Returning to the hotel on the evening of the 21st we reached our room and found that our key card was not working!!! It was back down to Reception through the myriad of stairs, and doors to the night manager who came back to the room to ensure he was able to get us in, by this time the room was even hotter than the previous evening and to top this had not even been ‘made up’. I complained about the heat and he went to get some water and ice which was he was embarrassed by how hot the room was . I appreciate this is an old building and earlier this summer we did have extreme temperatures but a room fan is never going to suffice and the Pilgrim need to seriously think about another option with the prices the charge.
I have since written to the hotel asking for at least a 50% refund and have been treated very poorly with just an offer of an upgrade if I want to stay again, what upgrade to another This hotel is more akin to a hostel and just not worth the price tag and their follow up customer service has just been so disappointing.

Dear Tracey, As we have explained in several emails, we are very transparent and honest about the fact that we do not have AC. We trust that our guests make their bookings with the understanding that air-conditioning isn't available, and take the lack of air-conditioning into account especially when placing a booking during the summer months. Given that you had already stayed previously, we trust as a return guest you were fully aware of our facilities and providing that your booking was made for a potentially warm period, would have made this decision with all factors in mind. Regarding the closure of our Lounge, I apologise for any confusion caused. As mentioned on our website and in the information email we send to guests upon arrival, our Lounge closes at 10 pm. I apologise if this information was not adequately communicated or if it inconvenienced you during your stay. While we did understand your request for a full refund and then a 50% refund, as you stayed two nights with us and utilised our room facilities during that time, we cannot accommodate a refund in this case. Please rest assured that your concerns and feedback are of utmost importance to us, and we take them seriously. In any case Tracey, I'd truly be happy to have you back to provide you with the type of stay that we wish for all of our guests and also to replace any negative memories with positive ones that the large majority of said guests are able to enjoy.

In general the stay was good. But we recommend MAKE SURE that The Pilgrm Hotel does not add charges to your credit card without notifying you and without your authorization. In our case, breakfast was 100% included. We checked out and they told us that everything was OK. And two days later charges appear on our credit card for 25 Pounds and when we consulted, they explained that there were breakfast items not included, probably some croissants.... They should have told us during breakfast that something was not included or before making the charge, very bad to do it without our authorization two days after having closed the check out OK. We also discovered that the check out charge for the total amount of the stay was made on the day of our arrival and not when it corresponded, that is, upon departure with check out. They seem desperate for revenue...

One of the worst hotel rooms I’ve tried. Our room was tiny with barely enough room to maneuver. No place to put luggage, four skimpy hangers attached to a wall mounted rack. Micro bathroom with the sink in the room and a very small ledge whic could hold a few items. There was on window that was frosted over so you couldn’t see out. The worst part was the lack of air conditioning. It must have been 83+ degrees in the room. We did have two small fans that marginally helped. It was impossible to stay there so we moved to a different hotel, losing four nights prepaid fees (close to $1k). We really wanted to like the place but just couldn’t.

I was here for a long weekend and because it is right next to Paddington Station, the hotel is a very good starting point for a city tour. The design is wonderful and that applies throughout: lounge, room, restaurant/bar. You get a nicely designed Pilgrm water bottle that you can refill for free and in general everyone is very friendly and helpful. The room, whose style I absolutely loved, was extremely small; if I had had a larger suitcase, I probably wouldn't have had it in there. This was especially true of the bathroom, where there really wasn't any room for my things. However, the shower was a pleasant size. The view was great: in the morning I could watch the squirrels in the huge tree outside the window from my bed. The breakfast was very tasty in a wonderful setting, which made the stay really fun. The hotel is a very complex building, it's a bit of a challenge to find your way around, but that all adds to the charm. I'd be happy to come back, but then in a double room.

The interior decor is so tasteful. I love that they have a coffee shop in the hotel and also a place to eat which serves brunch and maybe dinner not sure about dinner.
We didn't eat at the hotel so can't judge the food. I initially requested and paid for a large room, their photos show a king bed, a room with chairs for seating and a large area but the reality is that the rooms are so much smaller than what they portray them to be. I called front desk and asked if I really got the large room with a King bed and they assured it was the largest room they had. She said it was a British king , whatever that means. It was smaller than a queen so maybe an American full size bed. It was absolutely not worth the price and also the bed was so uncomfortable. My husband and I didn't sleep well. It was our first time visiting London and not having a good night sleep ruined the experience a bit for us. We won't be going back there again and hopefully they can be a bit more honest about their room sizes and the bed sizes.
Another positive is that they are connected by a Turkish restaurant which was pretty tasty. Also Paddington station is right across the street , it was convenient if you travel by train. Next time we will be staying at another hotel with way more comfortable beds.

Hi, As per other responses which are accurate, the "pantry" is a small communal area on each floor for making tea and coffee but the range when we visited was poor and we didn't use this facility. There are other coffee shops in the area and local cafes that provide a range of breakfast choices ( - the Pilgrm facilities for breakfast pastries etc are significantly over priced even for London). You can purchase hot drinks from the main lounge area. Hope that helps. Tim

On each floor there is a kitchenette that has a kettle / coffee & tea . You make your own coffee etc . The fridge was broken but is meant to hold fresh milk.
There is a served breakfast in the lounge area but this costs extra.
There are more places to choose from in the London area.
