British craftsmanship, refined luxury and an Art Deco spirit collide at this prestigious five-star hotel in the heart of London. Occupying a prime Mayfair position, the West End, designer-lined Bond Street and Buckingham Palace are all just a short meander away. The Athenaeum itself exudes contemporary charm. Spacious rooms and suites cater to all of life’s luxuries, with views over verdant Green Park or character-filled Mayfair. Residences – the hotel’s luxurious serviced apartments – are found inside the adjoining Victorian red-brick buildings. These polished spaces offer a private entrance, separate bedroom and living areas, 24-hour in-room dining, plus full access to the hotel’s facilities. Dining comes courtesy of the hotel’s restaurant, 116 at The Athenaeum, with menus championing the very best British produce. The royally-inspired afternoon tea has become something of a London tradition, served with artisan tea, picture-perfect pastries and an array of sweet and savoury treats. Across the lobby, The Bar at The Athenaeum is a tranquil hideaway, promising cocktails created by an award-winning barman and more than 100 rare and intriguing whiskies. Sumptuous seating areas offer an insider’s look at The Athenaeum’s Living Wall – a vertical garden that covers an entire exterior wall of the hotel, from ground level right through to the top floor. Elsewhere in the hotel, the high-spec gym is accessible 24/7, while the spa has an inviting hot tub and an enticing menu of REN treatments. Guests at The Athenaeum can also gain exclusive access to The View when booking direct – an enviable London spot from which to enjoy a complimentary drink and nibbles in the evening.

I last visited the Atheneum about 8 or 9 years ago - my late husband and I used to take our daughters up to London every Christmas and stay in one of the hotel’s townhouse apartments. This month we had tickets to see The Eagles at Hyde Park, and knowing how close the Atheneum is to the park, I decided it would be the ideal place to stay. On arriving I was delighted to see that the doorman, Jim, is still there (30 years and counting). He greeted us by name each time we left and arrived, and couldn’t have been more helpful. Our Deluxe room overlooked the side street (the same street on which the townhouses are situated), and was extremely comfortable. Very comfortable bed and pillow (I struggle with pillows as I have neck problems, but these were fantastic and I came home an immediately ordered two), and all the amenities you could need. We both slept very well (not always a given when you’re middle-aged!) and breakfast the next morning was plentiful and delicious. If I was going to make any complaint it would be that the air conditioning didn’t seem very effective - it was quiet but didn’t get very cool so we slept with the window open. It was noisy, but I popped ear plugs in and didn’t hear a thing. Service was excellent from every member of staff we encountered and I wouldn’t hesitate to return if we need to be close to this part of London again (it was a ten minute walk once we’d left the park after the concert).

Classy, stylish and comfortable ( with the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in) Excellent service and perfect location for exploring the city. I would struggle to consider any other hotel when in London. Thank you to the whole team for providing a memorable stay.

This was the perfect place to stay when meeting with friends for the weekend. Staff were attentive and knowledgeable. The hotel and location are excellent sitting on Piccadilly opposite Green Park. A particular treat was the WNBR parading past the front door on the Saturday afternoon 😎

Whenever I visit London, I always make sure that I stay at THE ATHENAEUM. The staff are sincere, cheerful and friendly. The location is so central to most of London's attractions and shopping. The rooms are so well-decorated, tidy, and clean.

My family stayed at the Athenaeum for a week this June in one of the residences and had an amazing time. The staff were tremendously helpful and attentive. The room itself was stylish and large with a small washer/dryer. The breakfast was delicious and fun in the mornings. The location of the hotel is terrific for major sites and public transportation. We had one of our best trips in large part due to this amazing hotel!

We stayed on a busy Saturday in June. The team looked after us incredibly well. For anyone looking for a treat, the park view rooms are amazing. They are spacious, very comfortable and the attention to detail is great. Fluffy bathrobes, fine bone china cups, high quality linens, lovely ESPA toiletries and soft fluffy towels.

Having stayed in a wealth of hotels of varying ratings I would say that aside from the concierge greeting, there was nothing else that I would put on the 5* rating. Very comfortable bed, nice room but no nice than a good standard 3 star or 4 star hotel. Breakfast was nice but not much choice when included with your room, the eggs were cold by the time the accompanying toast eventually arrived and it was clear to us that the other guests seated near to us were of far more importance to them. I can on my assume that this was ascertained by the room number.
