Recently refurbished, the Holiday Inn Express London City is a pretty acceptable property all around. It was very clean, the staff I encountered were friendly and the location excellent for those who need to be in the City/Shoreditch/Clerkenwell area. It's not luxurious, but functional.
Simple hotel, very good breakfast, very close to the underground ( underground where by the way you can find a lovely soup restaurant). The most important: spotless, very clean. Safe area but I don't recommend being outside when the pubs are still operating. Second morning...More

The western front of the edgy East End, Shoreditch is a perennially trendy haven for anything “street” – be it art, food, or fashion. With its handful of well connected transportation links dotting its perimeter, along with an ever increasing variety of shops, hotels, bars, and restaurants, it's easy to explore this trend-conscious and youth-oriented neighbourhood. There's a lingering post-industrial grit about
Shoreditch, but because it shares a border with “The City” financial district, the influence from its upscale neighbour can result in fascinating outcomes.

The furniture in the room was very old and it was probably kept as clean as it's possible to keep for its age and quality. But it was okay. The bathroom was modern and had obviously been done quite recently. A real contrast to the room. I certainly didn't see any mice, though I wouldn't be completely surprised at that story. Would I stay there again? No.
