A Georgian townhouse full of English charm, The Montague on the Gardens excels in traditional service and warm, generous hospitality. Located in literary Bloomsbury, just steps from the British Museum, we are famous for al-fresco dining and wonderfully fun pop-ups, including an alpine themed Ski Lodge in winter and a Hawaiian Beach Bar in the summer. Our chic Leopard Bar offers live jazz, whilst the conservatory is the perfect place to enjoy a traditional Afternoon Tea overlooking peaceful gardens.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Hotel's Favourite
My daughter and I stayed at The Montague on the Gardens after watching the double showing of Harry Potter & The Cursed Child. As the hotel is only a 10 minute walk away, we checked in between part 1 and part 2. Having mentioned that I was bringing my daughter to London to watch the play when I booked, we were stunned to be greeted with some delicious treats in our room accompanied by some handmade mini Harry Potter books to "remind us of the journey so far"! My 12 year old was over the moon. Generally, the staff just couldn't be nicer, more helpful or more professional. Check in was efficient, welcoming and friendly. I'd forgotten to ask for our preferred bed set up before arriving so they quickly moved us to a different room to accommodate this. We were greeted at the entrance and helped with our luggage to our room and shown how everything worked. On our return, after the second part of the play, we decided to go to the bar for a cocktail and mocktail. My cosmopolitan was delicious and despite it not being on the menu, they made my daughter a "nojito" which is her favourite drink. We then retired to our exceptionally comfy bedroom and my daughter ordered some chicken noodle soup from the room service menu, while I made us a hot chocolate each from the complimentary hot drinks in our room. The soup came quickly and was apparently delicious. There were plenty of places to plug in our various chargers and devices and we had a good night's sleep. In the morning, I let my daughter sleep in and then we headed to breakfast. I had manged to get my days and times muddled and they'd already started to clear away. Despite this, they ushered us to a table for 2, checked with the chef and then offered us some eggs if we wanted any and showed us where the pastries, juices, cereals etc. were. They then took my coffee order. It was so kind of them as we love a hotel breakfast and would have been so disappointed to miss out. Finally, we checked out with the same level of friendliness and professionalism that we had experienced throughout our stay. I have stayed at Red Carnation Hotels on several occasions and there are many reasons I keep coming back. They clearly have an excellent recruitment and training programme as I have never had a bad stay or come across any single member of staff that has been anything other than delightful. Thank you to everyone who helped to make our stay so enjoyable.

We had a lovely long weekend staying at this hotel. The staff are all so warm and welcoming. The choice for breakfast was delicious, catering for all diet requirements. What I thought was a special touch that the hotel do is that they have coffee in the lounge that guests can go and help themselves to. They then have hot chocolate in the lounge for the guests to help themselves to. Marshmallows and chocolate drops are available for guests to put in with their hot chocolate. The rooms are beautifully decorated , and the furnishings are stunning. Very busy hotel with excellent staff. Would certainly come back to this hotel. Look forward to the new hotel in Edinburgh. Thank you to all the staff at the Montague on the Gardens.

The Montague and their wonderful service made my visit to London everything I dreamed of and more. From the moment you arrive, they graciously cater to your every want and need. Would you like a cup of tea? In the morning, there's a tea cart, and in the afternoon, you can select from a series of beautiful bars, patios, enclosed verandas with a garden view, and you can have a simple cup, cream tea, or full afternoon tea. This is because they change the tea/coffee cart into an absolutely divine hot chocolate bar. I planned my days around an afternoon rest and hot chocolate at the hotel. Partly this was so I could consult with the concierge desk, who planned far better outings than I could have on my own. They'll make reservations at the best places to eat, tell you what to do or see nearby, suggest lovely walks or shops, and then summon a car for you...truly expert guides on everything. Plus, the rooms are absolutely lovely and beautifully appointed. They welcome you with fresh cookies and provide a tasty little something during the turndown service. the location is perfect; right across from the British museum and a short walk to the main tourist attractions. But also somehow very quiet, private, and restorative. It just doesn't get any better.

This is the perfect hotel to stay in when enjoying London. It is a quaint hotel with wonderful people who are knowledgeable and kind. Its proximity to everything London is a great treat. We walked from there every day to West End or Trafalgar Square (& so much more) and it is an easy walk. The breakfasts are delicious.

This boutique hotel is well located near Covent Garden with the British Museum at the end of the street. The staff shine here from your greeting by the concierge to people cleaning the rooms. It has many nooks to enjoy a view over the garden while having a coffee or something stronger. The piano bar on Saturday night (Paul) was also a highlight. It is great value for money and a stand out example of hospitality.

This hotel oozes unstated quality and ambience from the moment you arrive. All the staff from the Doorman to the Concierge are friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. The hotel itself is amazing and nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff at any point. You are made to feel special from the time you enter. In my opinion, the best quality hotel in London!

Our stay was excellent! The hotel is located between Russell Square and Bloomsbury Square, which offers access to multiple underground stations and bus stations to quickly move around the town. Our room was spacious and included a French press and hot water carafe for tea and coffee. The service was excellent. We had turn down service nightly and staff was very accommodating, friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the daily breakfast and also enjoyed afternoon tea and dinner at the hotel. I will be sure to stay at the Montague again next time I return to London.
