Nestled in the heart of London, the Washington Mayfair Hotel garners praise for its superb location near Green Park and Buckingham Palace. While some guests feel the cost does not match the hotel's offerings, the spacious and clean rooms with comfortable beds are often applauded. The service at the hotel is generally celebrated for its attentiveness, although it is not without occasional inconsistencies. Despite the positive remarks on room comfort, the atmosphere and amenities receive mixed reviews due to dated aspects and a somewhat dreary ambiance in places.

An average hotel, with a slightly tired feel. We stayed here for one night whilst in London. The sign above the door sets the tone, looks impressive but some lights out make it say "The Wash".

This hotel has had a few features changed, like the new TV in the room, but appears to be stuck in the 90s. The bed was comfortable, the water pressure and temperature in the shower good, and the air con worked ok, but there's nothing special about the room.

There was someone's loose tobacco under the chair, a chip in the ceramic sink and the safe battery was low, rendering it inoperative. The shower head sprayed water out the side of it and had slightly puzzling controls which took a while to get the hang of.

I can't comment on breakfast because it was too expensive to add on to an already expensive room. There are better, cheaper hotels in the area.

Arrived earlier than the designated check-in time so that we could drop off our bags ahead of the Billy Joel concert (with support acts) in Hyde Park and were very pleasantly surprised to find that not only was our room already ready but that we had been upgraded.
Despite the upgrade I would not class the room as being 4 star. We each had a different (non-matching) bedside table and a different bedside light. The room decor was also a bit tired in places and would benefit from being replaced if the Washington wants to retain its 4 star rating.
After the Billy Joel concert we went into the bar for a night cap. Not a lot of ambience and we quickly went back to our room.
Very comfortable bed. Shower was good, shame about the shower curtain as opposed to a shower screen. Again not what you expect from a 4 star hotel.
Breakfast was buffet style, so shame that several of the containers were empty (fried eggs, bacon, hash browns) and took a long time to be replenished. Also the stack of plates on the warmer were cold, as no one had turned the plate warmer on. Like the bar area the restaurant had no ambience to it.
Unfortunately the Washington Mayfair is far from being a 4 star hotel and is the other end of the quality spectrum when compared to the Chesterfield Mayfair (see my review) where we stayed the following night, which is just around the corner and where a Superior King sized room at the Chesterfield is cheaper than the Classic Double we had booked at the Washington Mayfair.

Stopped here for a night while out with friends . On arrival nice and pleasant staff , upgraded the room and was good and clean with all what you required , tea coffee and sky TV if you like TV. Location was very good . Overall first impression was good .
Bar area when we got severed was like some Spanish hotel . Breakfast was a big let down .
Food was not topped up and not very inviting. We requested tea and coffee when we sat down, after we had breakfast and the products were not the best we still requested tea and coffee . It arrived not to be the best then the waiter went and got milk from another table which we didn’t know who had handled it previously.
I refused to pay the full price because of the poor quality of products and the service.
Returned to the room to then the door being knocked regarding the issues , 10 minutes later another knock regarding this and I explained.
10.40 another knock the cleaners to say I have to check out which I was doing anyway.
I think the manager needs to manage his staff in a way of respecting customers.

Great location - booked on day of stay but poor level of room for 4 stars. Only prepped for one guest rather than two, minimal items provided in room eg no toothbrush/toothpaste/comb etc. newly decorated but plug fittings pulled away from wall when unplugging phone charger; toilet leaking too. Noisy lobby area to bedroom so night time ‘comings and goings’ audible.

Having gone through the horrible COVID time , and having lost so many people in this pandemic we were very weary of where we booked for a special overnight stay in London. This hotel falsely guarantees - supported by trip advisor ( which now questions the platform’s credibility in itself) a COVID safe place. All the ticks you see are actually crosses for my experience. When we went to check in the reception didn’t wear a mask or did any guests present . A bit of a set back, however carrying on to our booked room, one of two lifts broken in this large hotel , putting pressure of sharing lifts on guests and staff. While waiting for the lift to get to ground floor we were welcomed by what looked like a food delivering person ( the one who brings food through app order) , without masks or sense of distancing , mind you this person walked straight in without being stopped or questioned . This was another alarm, any ways we expressed our concerns of sharing the lift with him and went to our floor alone fully masked ( as per the hotel`s so called policy) . The room seemed okay , but the general decor of this place is a bit sad, grease smelling and run down needing a good revamp. The next was the breakfast experience , very bad to sum it up. The mask problem continued with no one wearing any - including staff and the guests , making us look almost like outcasts. The selection of breakfast was the worst I have seen , and being charged a premium I think it’s quite frankly a rip off. Bad quality of whatever was on offer, with guests touching with bare hands whatever they please and no sense of responsibility from staff. I even over heard other table groups making fun of the place comparing it to what they would get in other countries for quarter of the price. Over all I think this place needs to be under special measures and quite frankly revive the management as they clearly didn’t care . If you are looking for honest, safe clean and responsible place… this isn’t it.

As Vivek S and Richard E were travelling together, I am posting the same response to both although it does strike me that if they had such concerns about the safety aspects of the hotel, it would have been more responsible to have brought these matters to our attention immediately instead of waiting until departure and demanding a full refund on check out due to our perceived deficiencies. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to speak to them before they left and Richard E has refused to interact with me at all so I cannot find out why they claim we are not wearing masks because we most certainly are. Having checked the CCTV of their arrival, departure and breakfast experience, I can confirm that with one exception, all team members were wearing masks throughout. That one exception has a medical condition which prevented her from wearing a mask but she now wears a badge explaining she is exempt. CCTV also showed me that the person attempting to share the lift with them was another guest, taking food to his roommate. Delivery drivers are not permitted past the lobby under any circumstances. Guest are asked to come down and collect from the lobby. It is no longer a legal requirement so we have no powers to enforce our request that guests join us in wearing masks when moving round the building. As for breakfast – we are not alone in reopening buffet breakfast although we revert to table service when the hotel is quieter. Unfortunately apart from saying it is the worst they have seen, the feedback was completely non-specific. We are serving mostly the same items as before the pandemic, where supplies permit and I have made a point of checking with other guests most days, the majority of whom seem happy with the offering and service. The hospitality industry is battling a perfect storm of supply issues, staffing issues, increasing demand and the need to try and make up for 18 months of zero income. We are doing our best and from what we are told, most guests are happy with the result. I’m sorry that we did not come up to Vivek S’s and Richard E’s expectations but would have welcomed the chance to understand why they felt impelled to post such a negative review. With kind regards Annette S.

We enjoyed a fabulous 5 night stay here last week. The location was perfect, close to Green Park tube yet set back from the busy road so there was no traffic noise. Our room was huge, which was surprising for central London, the bed was super comfortable too. The bathroom was well lit and we really appreciated the underfloor heating which was welcome given the cold December weather. The staff were all friendly and courteous. Yes the public areas, lifts and hallways could do with an uograde but it did seem that improvements were being made. If you need a base, that's central but don't want to pay through the nose for it this is your place.

It is one of the most horrendous hotels I have stayed at in a long time. The front desk staff is useless and cannot seem to help with service recovery. The internet at the hotel runs slower than dial-up internet from the 1990s. I complained several times that nothing had been done. I sent an email to the general manager to get a response to the fact that he is out on extended leave. The front desk said there was nothing we could do. Also, the breakfast is relatively poor. The eggs are from a powder; it is not a traditional English breakfast, and the coffee tastes like it's from a cheap brand. When you pay 300GBP, you expect better service and better standards.

Dear Dr Rustman Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at our hotel. You have already shared your feedback via email and verbally on departure and as previously stated we have taken your feedback on board to try to understand where we have failed in the provision of excellent service. Since you left, our IT Team have further investigated and have confirmed the internet speed is within the normal range. We have also checked with other guests staying over this time who have not reported issues. It is very disappointing that we were unable to address these concerns earlier. Although you mentioned reporting them repeatedly, regrettably we have no record prior to the evening of 12th April when you escalated the matter to the Duty Manager and sent an email to our General Manager who is currently on sick leave following a major operation. We also understand that your tour guide who was also staying in the hotel was unaware of the problems you were encountering both with the internet and your general dissatisfaction over the standard of the room. Had he been aware or if the matter had been escalated prior to the night before departure, we would certainly have been able to find a solution leaving you free to enjoy your week’s holiday. Finally, just to reassure you on breakfast, our scrambled eggs are prepared using whole eggs and butter with maybe a smidge of cream. We do not now nor ever have used powdered egg and normally receive compliments on the extensive range of food provided for our English breakfast. I can also assure you that our coffee is a very fine brand of Italian coffee imported by a specialist coffee company, It is most definitely not cheap. In conclusion, we are very sorry indeed that you have been so disappointed with your stay. As already explained, the circumstances would not warrant the refund you requested on departure but we are grateful for the opportunity to be able to set the record straight and will make every effort in future to try and maintain closer contact with our guests to ensure we are fully aware of any issues before they escalate to this kind of level. My wife and I stayed for the one night and in general had a very pleasant stay. There were very few guests around when we checked in, and it appears that only 5 rooms were being occupied.
Check in was very efficient and we were upgraded to a junior suite on the 5th floor which was very nice.
Our room was a bit tired but I understand that a re-furb is being planned. My wife found a lot of dust on the blinds and display cabinet although the bedding was very clean.

The bathroom is quite dated, but functional providing you don’t mind a shower in the bath tub with a curtain.
There was a nice range of toiletries provided in the bathroom.

We slept well although if we had wanted to have a window open during the summer, this wouldn’t have been possible due to the loud traffic noise below in Curzon Street.

On check in we were offered a discounted breakfast rate of £15 instead of the usual £24.95 if we paid there and then which we did. To be honest the breakfast was only just about worth the £15 we paid. The coffee wasn’t great quality and my wife had to pay an extra £5 for a cappuccino.
On the plus side we enjoyed some fruit with yogurt , porridge, whilst I had nice poached eggs on toast with a good quality sausage.

The hotel is in a very good location and we would return once the re furbishment was complete.

Dear Mr Stevesmith110, Thank you so much for taking your valuable time out to leave us a review. January is usually the quietest month for many industries after the seasonal holidays, not to mention that the pandemic still has its effect. But we were delighted that you stayed with us. And we are even more delighted to let you know that our refurbishment is now in progress. It is quiet here for such a central location and the windows are double glazed but if you do hear some of the Mayfair buzz we can always offer an alternative at the back of the hotel. We also have the rooms available with a walk-in shower and some with shower screens too for those who prefer. As for the breakfast - it’s sad to hear that it wasn’t up to your expectations, the majority of our guests have given us good feedback but we will certainly try and improve the areas you mentioned. Glad you liked the poached eggs and the sausages. We very much look forward to welcoming you back again soon. With warm regards, Annette Staunton

The hotel location is excellent, but the quality of stay is mostly dependent on whether you get a road facing or back facing room. For £234, I got a room which had one tiny window facing back terrace, a staircase and drain pipes. On requesting the front desk staff on changing the room (after one night of stay), the night staff informed the some other road facing rooms are vacant, however, not clean, hence the day staff can change the room the next day. But the next morning at 7.45 am, before leaving for work, when I spoke to the Duty manager Max, he informed that there was no possibility to allot another room, which I found surprising since the night staff informed that rooms were available.
On top of that, the carpets are not too clean. After a lot of discussion, Eventually after two and a half days of my stay, they changed the room, but overall it was not a pleasant experience.

I booked afternoon tea for a friends birthday. This was on 06 January at 3pm.
We were very disappointed with the service considering we were the only customers in there. The wait staff were not helpful, and we had to keep going up to them or calling them over, there was no checking in with us to see if everything was ok.
We had to ask for jam as they did not bring this out with the afternoon tea. My sister who has a nut allergy was just given a bowl of fruit as an alternative to the scones and cake. I don't this this is a suitable alternative.

On arrival we had to ask if they could play some background music as it seemed very soulless in there.

Very disappointing experience and would not recommend

If you are willing to take 1 bus and do a bit of walking, it will cost £1.50 using an oyster card or your contactless debit or credit card. However, as cheap as it would be, this does mean the travel time will be much longer than if you were to take a train. Hope this helps
