This was one of the worst hotels I've every stayed. I expected the hotel to look decent since it had a nice name, grand exterior and mid-range price. I was shocked when I stepped foot onto the hotel. There was an unpleasant smell along the corridors of rooms. The 'hotel' room looked exactly like a dorm. Very basic, a notch...

No heating in the room at all! Froze all night! Was very disappointed with the lack of care from the staff member when I complained that it was freezing in the room, she just stared at me and said the boiler was broken from the day before! Would not arrange any other room or find a solution, was not impressed...

I stayed here on my own for two days whilst on a short break visiting a friend. I was never intending to spend much time at the hotel so the main requirement was location, cost and an adequate level of comfort and security. In terms of location, it was perfect for me. On a quiet street midway between Earls Court...

Tiny room and en-suite with small high window - very very hot even without heating on and this was February !!!!! Hairdryer not working. Had to wait for table each morning for breakfast Breakfast very very basic continental - better off forgoing and eating elsewhere. Location quite good for underground. Need to provide passport on check in even if UK...

I am very sorry indeed for the disappointment this reviewer felt on their stay with us. We certainly do not want any guest to leave us with such an impression. We are very sorry that you found your room small. Whilst we always try to address promptly any complaints, given the historic status of our building there is little we...

We stayed at the Avni on Friday. Great location minutes from Gloucester Road Tube Station. Room was quite big for London standards and the bed was the best hotel bed we have in in a long time. Would definitely recommend if you are staying in this area of London

The staff are very helpful and friendly at the Avni. There is a 24 hour reception which is good. The room I was given was on the 4th floor and was tiny but sensibly appointed. It wasn't quite finished as there was a gap in the tiling under the sink. There was no duvet but a sheet and blanket. The...

Only a 5 minute walk from Gloucester Road tube station so great location with easy access to the centre of London! There's a luggage room so if you arrive before check in then you can leave suitcases in the hotel and go for a wander! In a nice location with a fairly quiet street and a Waitrose and Tesco round...

Good location. Hotel is 5-10 mins walk from the Gloucester Road Underground Station (tube). There's a small Tesco opposite and a Waitrose Supermarket around the corner. There's a number of restaurants and eateries nearby. Sightseeing Hop on and hop off bus-stop is just along the road outside the tube station. Natural History Museum and Harrods are within 30 mins walking...

Great towels and clean sheets! Good location to underground stations and restaurants. Old building, windows are old, making the rooms noisy and damp. It had the feel of camping! Staff seemed very limited in the English language, but were cordial. They were not able to answer questions about the area. Windows are higher from floor in the two rooms we...

It wasn't that this was a bad hotel. It just wasn't a good one. The price was decent, but not for the closet room. The beds were very strange. We felt like we were camping. There was only one pillow per bed as well. The WiFi didn't work well. Breakfast was fine and location is good. The staff, however, left...

Staying in South Kensington

Neighbourhood Profile
South Kensington
With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall) such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming and cosmopolitan as it is reserved and residential, South Kensington is always a hit with visitors.

“Smallest room ever slept in !!!!! Barely enough room 2 people. Bed accessible only by one side. Extremely hot despite radiator turned off and this was February !!!! Had keep small overhead window open throughout night to allow some cool air flow through - don't know how anyone could sleep there in warmer weather. Hairdryer broken and despite reporting it each day not provided with alternate until last morning. Needless to say tiny en-suite !!!!! Only positive thing say is room clean and bed sleepable !!!!!”
