Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The best hotel we regularly stay in London, a couple of times this year. Excellent location, is clean and cosy, super friendly staff, and feel like home. A new Italian great restaurant just opened on the first floor, try obligatory.

I was staying with work and the hotel was arranged on my behalf. I made the mistake of not checking the website/reviews better as I’d just assumed the old rooms were from outdated photos. The hotel gets one star for its location and one star for the staff who were very welcoming. My room had stains everywhere, the sink was chipped and the bed was very uncomfortable. The air con system seems to have been removed so you either have a plug in radiator or open the window. There are no bedside plugs and the only two in the room are on the desk so plugging the radiator in would be inconvenient. I didn’t even bother with breakfast even though it was included in my stay. I don’t normally bother writing negative reviews and normally roll my eyes at photos of close ups of interiors but this was pretty tired and grim.

On arrival, check-in was quick and efficient to get to our room to find it was not what we had expected. We complained to check in and was then sent to the correct room. The heating was not on in the living room area quickly sorted, but the radiator in the bedroom didn't work, so a small oil radiator was brought in, which wasn't very good. The shower wasn't that clean, but only stopping 1 night was never used. The sink was not very clean as Brown spots in the basin itself. The bed was comfortable, only had 1 bedside cabinet, so it was a little awkward, and the living room 1 bulb was not working quickly fixed by maintenance. Having settled in, we found 1 socket couldn't be used as no plug wouldn't go into it. The lifts were, as usual, useless, only occasionally stopping at the floor people required, and only three working. The 1 good point was the lovely concierge Chris he could never be more polite and helpful and always remembers us when we see him. Don't think we will stop again

I have stayed at St Giles hotel many times, mainly due to its central location. The rooms, although basic are always clean, comfortable and have everything you could need. I stay both for work and socially and have been a loyal and frequent customer for several years, recommending the hotel to family and friends. Part of my professional role includes supporting customers with disabilities to have opportunities to access activities and events and at this time of year they enjoy nothing more than going to see a west end show. We booked 3 rooms for 2 nights (2 single rooms and one twin) for a birthday celebration on a room only basis at a cost of almost £1000. I know what to expect from the room and due to the people we are supporting being on a limited budget we generally stay in the basic rooms as the customers are required to pay for the accommodation costs of accompanying staff member. I do however ask for access to a fridge to enable us to store the customer’s medications at the correct temperature. Having confirmed upon arrival this had been approved I was relieved to see a fridge set up in my room, albeit this significantly reduced an already limited space within the room, the necessity of a fridge was more important than my comfort. We unpacked and stored the medication in the fridge and continued with our trip. We returned to the hotel before dinner and I noticed the fridge was not that cold, however I assumed that it would take time to work. The following day we were out early and when we returned that evening I noticed the fridge was still not very cold. Further inspection revealed that it had not been plugged in. When I reported this to the manager I was made to feel that it was my fault for not checking and he showed no understanding of the potential risks from medication not being stored at the correct temperature. Although I appreciate that the room rate booked did not include automatic access to a fridge, the Equality Act of 2010 should enable access to a fridge for reasons of disability without having to pay higher cost for a more expensive rooms. The customers we support are extremely vulnerable and should not be discriminated against due to a medical condition or disability. There needs to be improvement with how complaints are managed as I I was made to feel like a nuisance for raising the issue and it was further suggested that I should be grateful that I had been given a fridge. Needless to say I am extremely disappointed with a total lack of customer service to extremely vulnerable customers. Such behaviours are not acceptable and needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency.

The position of this hotel could not be better. A few doors down from the Dominion Theatre, near the corner of New Oxford street and Tottenham Court Road underground station it's easy to get anywhere. Staff are lovely, quick help with anything you need, and the cafe downstairs does great food and service. My single room was tiny, but a warm, comfy bed, everything I needed and an immaculate bathroom. Only thing I missed was HDMI ports, however I understand the rooms are being slowly upgraded and this is a big hotel with a lot of rooms. The one downside is that there are four lifts but usually only two of them actually running, between ten floors, and they're tiny. As a result when I tried to check out this morning there were eight of us with suitcases waiting nearly 15 minutes for a lift, and eventually everyone piled in and overfilled a lift out of sheer frustration knowing if they didn't take this lift another wasn't coming any time soon. This is a big hotel with a lot of people: there need to be a lot more lifts working in it. If you are not used to noise at night then bring earplugs. This is central London, you are right in the middle of it, and it does not stop.

Stayed just the one night. Room does need updating but this was reflected in the price. However very clean and comfortable. The bed was really comfortable. The shower hot. TV very small, window small but we enjoyed our stay. Great location, close to the tube.

Except for the good location, this is a terribly bad hotel. Very small room, even smaller (and very dirty) window, very small bathroom; breakfastroom in the back is very dirty and sloppy, choice at breakfast is minimal (1 type of tea only!) and very crowdy (even at 8am), staff at check in is uncaring, elevators are a disaster (some of them not working, endless queuing at the other elevators), we had to pay for leaving our luggage and not only that: impossible to pay cashless (really???). Summarized: worst hotel ever. We are definitely NEVER coming back.

What a disappointing hotel they don't show you on their website the type of room we stayed in It was very well worn there were stains on the carpet the carpet didn't join the cheap looking thin corridor carpet tiles the paint work was shabby, there were cables tucked behind poorly fitted trunking the double glazing was pointless even with windows shut you could still hear the traffic outside, after a number of attempts at trying to put tele on it came on but then couldn't adjust the volume The bathroom wasn't much bigger than an average size wardrobe with a damaged shower tray and lukewarm shower The breakfast was terrible cold beans slimy mushrooms and burnt bacon and sausage The lifts are a waste of time we waited around 10 minutes for the lift to turn up
