A discreet, Georgian townhouse located just off the Kings Road, Sydney House Chelsea offers understated, contemporary style in a vibrant neighbourhood. Its intimate atmosphere, typical of a bijou Chelsea pied-à-terre, is finished with a fresh, bright and modern aesthetic, and the hotel is favoured by many as an invaluable London bolt hole. Built in 1829 as two townhouses, the Grade II listed buildings were converted from private residences into a hotel in the 1980’s. As the tallest building on the street, taking prominence over its neighbours, it was named Sydney House. Andrew and Christina Brownsword bought Sydney House Chelsea in 2001. It became the second hotel in their collection, seven years after the purchase of The Bath Priory.

Room not heated on arrival. Loo seat very, very low. TV did not work. I eoukd gave expected more as a repeat customer. Tried to sell the breakfast but as the facilities in the the room were not working or great I didn't want to risk the breakfast!

Another relaxing stay at Sydney House. The staff are very helpful and supportive. The location of the hotel is excellent to reach central London quickly and the surrounding area is very pleasant. The breakfasts are very tasty and room service was of good quality.

A great value in an excellent location next to great restaurants, pubs, and some of the best museums in London—and just a few short Tube stops away from a lot of the touristy spots if you want to visit those, or avoid them. The rooms are not large but are comfortable and way more pleasant than the more modern budget hotels that have proliferated in London and beyond. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful, and the rooms are clean and quiet.

We recently stayed for 2 nights in November and had a great experience at Sydney House. Before arrival, we notified staff that we would require a travel cot, and from then onwards they were super attentive to us and our needs during our stay. The staff are very friendly and we enjoyed having a chat with them each morning before starting our day. Would highly recommend, great service and superb location too.

Friendly “feel-at-home” vibe within walking distance from South Kensington station and a stones throw from Sydney Arms, a must-visit neighbourhood pub. This was a business trip and all four of us agreed we would consider Sydney House for future travel.

Having returned numerous times to this hotel, the staff is absolutely delightful. Alongside this, the location is perfect for exploring Chelsea, museums and accessing other parts of London due to the hotel’s proximity to South Kensington underground station. Certain areas of the hotel could do with a fresh coat of paint and a new carpet on the stairs would enhance its overall appearance. Enjoy visiting hotels with hardwood flooring and this is one not to be missed, bedding and towels are of an high quality as are the products in the bathroom. Overall, will definitely return. Sincere thanks to Haneen and the team who dealt admirably and professionally with a boiler breakdown. Nothing was too much trouble from this lovely team.
