got to the hotel couldn't wait as I am into so much Interio design and this was the hotel for me to when I got to the door and was a a4 notice saying it was closed due to covid and to go across the road at a sister hotel which wasnt half as nice as the portico. had no choice to stay here travelling with 2 small children. no one let me know the place was closed or change of plan yet the hotel is still selling rooms when it's all lie even the hotel website is still saying rooms nothing saying rooms and stays are diverted to the sister hotel this ruined my whole london trip with my my 2 small daughters
I booked this hotel on the 15/07/2020 to stay on 06/08/2020. It was a surprise birthday present for my boyfriend so when we arrived and read an A4 piece of paper on a locked door saying they were “closed due to COVID”, I was pretty angry. I had paid £140 to stay in a deluxe double room that I had booked a month prior. However, when we arrived at the replacement hotel, they simply gave us a triple room instead of a deluxe double. Why on earth would we need a triple room when we are two people?? The room was no where near as nice as the original one we had actually booked and reserved at hotel Portico. Another single bed with no use is not a compromise. After me asking why we are not staying at hotel Portico he explained it was due to COVID. What does that even mean? Your hotel is open, so why wasn’t I informed about Portico being closed? It all seemed a little bit convenient when I read the reviews and other people who have used this hotel said they have also been shipped off to another hotel with no explanation! Maybe this is a technique used to keep the maximum priced hotel rooms available at hotel Portico and ship people off to the cheaper and less desirable hotel to book that one up which otherwise maybe wouldn’t be. I mean, this isn’t the first time this has happened to me in hotels in London... We had traveled for 4 hours to visit London so even if the hotel had changed their plans that day, there was still PLENTY of time that morning/afternoon to call/email me and tell me about the rearrangement. I will be emailing this to the hotel as I would really like a reply and to be informed as to why my trip was changed without ANY notice or compensation. Regards, Misha…
NEVER BOOK this hotel. I booked 2 months in advance. I got an email from the hotel to tell me my credit card was not working 2 weeks before the day I was due to travel. My credit card is working? But I updated the number again for them just in case. On the way to London from Manchester on the train, I got a notification from hotels.com asking if I cancelled the booking? I had not so I emailed them back and copied in the Portico hotel to say I am on my way, please do not cancel this booking? When I arrived at the hotel at approx 8:30 p.m. they told me they have cancelled my room because I wasn't there by 6 p.m. When I questioned why they did this (as at no point did anyone tell me I needed to be there at 6 p.m.) the man at the counter, whose name is MANN said my credit card doesn't work anyway! Then he said he had booked me into a sister hotel a fee streets away. I asked him why he would do this if he believed in my credit card did not work? He got frustrated and told me I was rude and picked up the phone threatening to cancel the room at the other hotel. I was so angry I left and said I would go to the other hotel but as I walk down the street , not really knowing where I was in a dark London backstreet, I decided to just rebook a new hotel as I did not want to stay with this company. I had booked it through hotels.com and so I rang them from the new hotel to tell them what happened. They immediately checked with Porticio and said the hotel has cancelled my booking and they did this on their own accord. They also confirmed at no point did anyone tell me that I had to be there for 6pm. They also confirmed that the new hotel I had booked had to use the same credit card so therefore it was working so no rational explanation as to why Portico cancelled. Basically I believe the Portico lied as they sold my room probably to a walk-in at a higher rate. Thankfully, I had a credit card available to rebook somewhere else and there was a vacancy because it is not the most pleasant of areas late at night being a single female. I actually was approached by somebody on the way near the park and asked if I wanted to buy drugs Don't get me wrong, I am not particularly phased but was not happy to have to go back out wandering looking for a new hotel Never Again would I use this hotel or any of their chain as I believe they have seven in the area. I am not blaming hotels.com. They reacted immediatley and credited my account and are going to investigate further to ensure quality customer service from hotels on their stock list.…
Hotel was small with no facilities for an evening meal and breakfast was served diagonally across the road in a 'sister' hotel. Room was nice but very dark - tiny window with a view of a wall/window! The passage way to the room was being refurbished, so quite dusty etc. - no disabled/step free access but staff very helpful and moved me to the ground floor from 3/4th floor - I have difficulty walking particularly with stairs. The young woman on reception was excellent and did everything she could to make me comfortable
Good location: quiet street close to Victoria station, The room was recently renovated, enjoyed especially the shower. Some noice (doors banging) from the corridor, ohterwise peaceful. The staff was friendly and helpful.
