Hallam is literally 5 minutes’ walk from the middle of Oxford Street behind Topshop, this alone made the price all the more surprising! The receptionist was lovely when I stayed in September he gave me an upgrade from my single room to a slightly larger one on the top floor. It’s a family run business and has such a friendly atmosphere, just little touches like having extra towels and bits outside the rooms for guests to help themselves was really nice, There were no noisy or inconsiderate guests like you get in bigger hotels and I had a fantastic nights sleep. A bit of traffic is expected (it’s behind Oxford street!) but there was clearly soundproofing so I couldn’t hear it. I agree with other reviewers, if the decor bothers you, go and find a pricier hotel. Personally I thought it had everything you need in a basic hotel - shower, en-suite, hairdryer, tea/coffee, TV, and the location is absolutely perfect…
We becoming regulars having lunch or dinners. The food is great and the portion sizes are very big. The he staff are all very friendly and you don’t wait a long time to be served. We are return customers and loving it!
I ignored the reviews and stayed here. Big mistake. Hand on heart the worst night of my life, the room was the size of a broom cupboard and I’m not even exaggerating. It was so filthy and dusty my eyes stared itching and watering. The heating is portable and I’m sure a fire hazard as there is no fire exit! Either the room will be boiling hot or freezing cold. The pillow and duvet is paper thin. There is no inside lock so was so so scared of someone being able to gain access to my room when I was asleep and prayed for the morning. I honestly did not feel safe at all. I put all my bags against the door in the hope that no one would gain entry. The deal was sold as breakfast included but when I turned up told they don’t serve breakfast anymore and there are cafes nearby and there would be no refund for the breakfast promised and not delivered. I don’t know how they can be up and running with such poor accommodation and service. I wish I stayed in a youth hostel. I even contemplated sleeping on the street as that would probably have been better! It is awful. The pictures do no justice and the photographer must be amazing! I had the cabin room which is the cheapest room I’m thinking, please please please don’t make the mistake of staying here. Take the tube outside to a less central location and stay there, it’s not worth it. And believe the reviews. If you are obese or claustrophobic you would not have been able to fit into that room. And if you have asthma or eczema or atop it is a health hazard (and I say that as a doctor). I don’t have any of the above medical problems but I felt as though I was going to die of claustrophobia, anxiety over no inside lock, cold and reacting to the dusty bedding. If there was a fire I’d have to jump out the window and break some bones. That was my exist plan as the room was a fire hazard as well. Please please please don’t stay here! Trust me no matter how desperate you think you are at the time of booking, staying here will make you feel helpless and suicidal!!!! …
I took a chance on this one, thinking the reviews were maybe a bit exaggerated and it'd be OK for one night. It was not. Stayed as a single traveller on the fifth floor. Lift not working and it was many, many steps to the attic rooms with heavy baggage. Room was small, dingy, in need of much love, but fairly clean despite a bad smell. The bed was hard, the single pillow too thin and the noise from the streets and my room neighbours TV (at 2am!) made it impossible to sleep. I could hear every word of his TV programs. The shower was almost impossible to use. I have seen better water pressure coming out of a single hole in a plastic cup. Plus it was cold. My TV did not have a remote control and was stuck on BBC 1. There was no breakfast, but the staff were helpful and friendly. Just wasn't worth it. Even for a night. Please go somewhere better if you possibly can.…
Terrible Hotel! Maybe the worst I've ever stayed in. Expensive and dirty. Tv didn't work, breakfast-room was closed (used for storage) and the lift was out of order. It's central, but it's a total rip-off!
