South Kensington
With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall) such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming and cosmopolitan as it is reserved and residential, South Kensington is always a hit with visitors.

Staff was first class, at both the front desk, and the executive lounge. Was not expecting an early check in, but was able to check in around 10am. Had a renovated King Executive King. Very nice room. Included a safe, refrigerator, and an expresso machine. Overall, a very comfortable stay. Would certainly stay at this location again. Renovations are underway, but it did not bother us in the least, and was quite unobstrusive. The hotel is doing a great job with this renovation. Did have a couple of hiccups with one of the elevators, but staff was working hard to resolve the issue. Location worked out well, using the Picadilly Line from Heathrow to Earls Court Station, and just a 5-7 minute walk. Very easy. Also used Glouster Road Tube station as well during our stay for a few of our trips as well as the number 74 city bus, which has a stop almost directly in front of the hotel. Good overall location if you are looking to tour the sites, have good access to and from Heathrow, and a resonable price for a room in London.

Good location near Earl’s Court and a short walk to the tube station at Gloucester Road. Modern hotel. Cheaper than staying more centrally in London. Impressed with the refurbished club lounge. Staff in there were fantastic. Comfortable enough room. Probably best to get a room at the rear as the Cromwell road can be busy. Helpful concierge. Enjoyed my stay.

No operational lifts. I was staying on the 6th floor. The alternative is the uncarpeted and unsigned emergency staircase. This may not be suitable for everyone, although they did offer that you could call reception to arrange luggage to be uplifted. Also don't bother to book a taxi through the concierge, they won't and the concierge on duty when you book and when you go to reception for your taxi won't be the same.

Dear Greenmantle2018 Thank you for taking the time to complete a review following your recent stay with us and please accept our apology for the unfortunate lift outage that occurred whilst staying with us. Our secondary escape routes all have evacuation signage for directional information, yet I can appreciate that this entire situation was not ideal considering that your room was on the 06th Floor. Such occurrences are unfortunately beyond our control but we endeavour to have them resolved as a matter of urgency whist offering all the assistance we can to our guests. I trust that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back and restore your faith in the property on your next visit. I remain at your disposal for any further queries. Assuring yo of the best of our intentions at all times, I remain Yours Sincerely

This was my second stay at this hotel (previous one was 9 months ago). This time I was given a newly renovated room and it was much better than the old rooms, hence this new review. LOTS of electrical & USB outlets made charging my phone, power bank, laptop easy. Lots of lighting made the room feel bright and airy. Sleek modern decor. The best part of the room was the new bathroom. No tub (Yay! Less chance of slipping & falling!), huge shower area with a rain-shower head and controls on the opposite wall. Absolutely loved it! Unfortunately I didn't get to check out the renovations to the lounge as Marriott changed its policy to only give access to Bonvoy Platinums and above, I'm only Gold. I chose not to try the restaurant as it looked the same as it did 9 months ago and the food didn't look any better than it did back then either. Front desk service was excellent. My one complaint was that the trash can in my bathroom had not been emptied after the previous guest. Luckily it was "just" empty shampoo bottle and paper and not anything gross. I told the front desk about it and they offered to take care of it but I was rushing to a meeting and just blew it off.

The Marriott Kensington has become a home away from home, so welcoming when we return to enjoy London. The location is convenient for walking to the major museums and Harrods, and for tube access at Earls Court and Gloucester Road. The recent renovations have greatly improved the hotel experience. The Executive Lounge is more comfortable, spacious and airy with the new colour scheme and additional table seating. The room renovations are great, in particular the more practical walk-in, push button shower in the bathroom. The only disappointment is the new bathroom lighting - not great. Design flaw? The hotel staff make all the difference. The reception team, headed up by Grazina and Mercedes, were efficient and welcoming; in the restaurant Simona greeted us at breakfast with her lovely smile; the concierge team was professional and helpful with directions and recommendations for the perfect pub meal. Special thanks to head concierge Jamie, and to Alex and Ari. A great stay!

I would appreciate knowing what stage the renovations will be at in September. Thanks.
I agree. Call the hotel. They will be honest. I would stay at this hotel even if the renovation is still ongoing. The staff and the location make up for any negatives. BTW - Museums are free!!!

As of two weeks ago when we were there, only 17 rooms had been renovated so it was a pretty small number. We were in an older Superior Deluxe; it was okay but nothing special. The rooms are small even for European standards regardless if they have been renovated or not. We didn't have a refrigerator in our room. We had executive lounge access because of my status. Definitely a very nice lounge with good amenities; it had a continental breakfast and snacks in the evening.
