The Britannia International Hotel garners mixed reviews, with its prime location being lauded for easy access to transportation and local attractions. However, some guests criticize the hotel for its outdated atmosphere and the need for refurbishment. While certain travelers commend the cleanliness and views of the rooms, many voice concerns over their dated condition and lack of maintenance. Service quality appears to be hit-or-miss, with instances of both attentive and unresponsive staff reported. Additionally, guests are often disappointed by the extra fees for amenities like Wi-Fi and the perceived poor value for the price paid.

I was concerned staying here for 4 nights based on the trip advisor reviews but as travelling with national holidays there was no choice... since arriving I have been pleasantly surprised.
The rooms, yes dated and a little worn in places are comfy and clean. Although very hot, even with a window opened by concierge. Beds comfy, spacious room (family room) bathrooms have bath and shower, flatscreen tv, tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer, iron/ iron board.
Downsides are WiFi only free for 20mins twice a day in the room and expensive daily rate, room cleaned every day but hit or miss on certain things being done such as bins emptied or new towels, heating/ air conditioning needs sorted as way too hot (29 degrees) even with the window open and all heating off. There is also only one English wall plug fitting in the room, this is not near the bed either so charging was fun until I bought a 4 plug extension. With 2 iPads, 2 phones and a watch to keep charged, whilst needing to use kettle and hairdryer/ straighteners the extension was a must with lack of sockets.
Only 1 bedside lamp worked and the plug in bathroom sink didn’t work. (0508)

In our package breakfast and evening meal was included. Restaurant is buffet style and there was always a good choice. Breakfast had choice of toasts and jams, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, cheese, hams or full English items. Poached eggs are available on request and were lovely. Orange, apple and cranberry juice available each day.
For evening meal there was always a choice of 3 or do items, quite old fashioned food but tasty none the less. Small salad bar, and a different soup each day. Usually a choice of 4 deserts which all were lovely. Water available on an evening.
The only slight improvement would have been an earlier opening time as 6.30 was difficult for clashing with evening shows outside of hotel. On this occasion we purchased food from Jenny’s on return (pizza) and yes it was expensive but it was very nice.
Check in was relatively quick, 3 lifts for hotel mean you don’t wait long.
The location is great, not far to walk to Canary Wharf tube station or you can access the river boat about 10 mins walk. The location has been excellent for access to central london every day and night.
Staff are all friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble.
Would definitely stay again if visiting London with national holidays.

Never stayed in a Britannia hotel before and have left feeling disappointed. On arrival, we could see it was very dated but was greeted by a lovely lady at reception who was very helpful however this went downhill when we got to our room. We walked into a very dated room that had stains all over the carpet and faulty electric.
That evening, I wanted to have a bath but the plug didn't stay in and the bath wouldn't fill up because of this. We also had no heating to which we rang reception and they brought us up a heater.
Upon booking, we also left a request which was not fulfilled when we arrived and overall would not recommend it.
On a plus note, the breakfast was reasonably priced and had a large selection of things to eat.

The entrance is grand with brass, marble, glass, mounted horse statue and red carpet giving it all an anticipation of grandeur within and this does continue inside by chandeliers, grand stairway and a continuing red carpet theme although on closer inspection a few stains & tatty furniture is noticeable. The reception is massive with a long shielded reception desk and plenty of seating areas. There were other areas leading from the reception one being a bar and a couple of restaurants all with plenty of seating too. The corridors are light and airy.
The room was very large as I paid an extra £20 for an executive room that had 2 single beds pushed together but with queen size bedding so no issues with falling through the middle. There was bedside tables either side with lamps on. There was a mirrored large fitted wardrobe that had the iron & ironing board in it. There was also a dressing table with 3 drawers either side and the hair dryer within it plus a triple folded mirror on top. Infront of the large long windows with great views of the river & buildings, was 2 airchairs separted by a small circular dining table. Tea & coffee facility was also in the room with a wall mounted TV.
The bathroom has a bath with a shower incorporated within the bath, a singe sink and individual toiletries.
The breakfast was adequate with cold & hot foods and in a great, large room that had continuous arched windows showing the river views.
There is a underground car park but very expensive at £25 per night although you can pay less if you're prepared to move your car by 8am. You can also pay £10 extra to stay for a midday check out.

Hotel in total need of a revamp, we were upgraded to a suite even then dirty windows, paintwork needs a clean/update bathroom not overly clean carpets bare in places on stairways

Staff very polite and try to help where they can, problem with our booking in that my hubby had ordered the champagne and chocolates as a surprise upon arrival, not in room, reported and told it would be sent up this was around 5pm and still no show by the time we were going out at 7:30, explained to reception that we would prefer a refund for this as would be back late and driving tomorrow as this hadn’t arrived as arranged we would have no time to enjoy was told we could “take home with us” , staff member didn’t seem to understand there was no point in this, so a very expensive bottle and chocolates to take home :-( delivered to our room while out with no disturb sign on door even after refund requests

On arrival back at hotel decided to try the pizza in the restaurant open late, it was take away only a £5 charge to bring to your room, limited availability and when served was cold in the middle more like a frozen one put on as quick as possible, guests were ordering from outside restaurants dropping to reception aka deliveroo dominos etc better off doing that as cheaper and better quality

Lift broke down with somebody in it they were desperately calling for help? We reported to desk after coming down 11 flights of stairs and was told manager was on it, still out of order following morning and when we checked out.

Had booked and paid for a late check out but all hopes of a lay in out of the window as can here cleaning/banging of other rooms throughout the morning

Building site opposite hotel so again quite noisy

Although there is a strict no smoking rule, clearly somebody was smoking on our floor as the stench was terrible on our landing

Breakfast .. ok Buffett style, Luke warm had to ask for fresh top ups, croissants stale and no tea pot or mugs so have to keep going up for cups of tea

Check out was very busy, chose express checkout as big queues with only one member of staff on desk

Windows could do with a clean as off putting looking out

Overall a shame as was looking forward to this treat

For the location this hotel is really good value for money, it's really close to Canary Wharf Underground station. We stayed in a suite which was a good size and the views of Canary wharf were really dramatic. The bed was ok and the room was kept clean and tidy. We were on a dinner, bed and breakfast deal and we were happy with the quality of the food. We paid £7 per day for WiFi in the room which I thought was fair given the good deal we had on the room and food. However, if a family with kids is staying and everybody needs WiFi then be aware that the charge is £7 per device per day when comparing costs. The hotel across the street was double the cost and whilst it's more modern I couldn't justify paying twice as much for the same thing, we prefer to have more spending Money for the activities we had planned. At the moment the main problem staying here is that the building site next door to the hotel has blocked off the pavement so you have to cross the road to reach the hotel, but that's out of their control. Also, there is a Tesco local nearby which is open until 11pm which was standard prices (so you don't have to pay over the odds for soft drinks in the hotel!) We will certainly stay here again. If you are traveling by train have a look on line for 241 London online for half price entry to top attractions. I now e you enjoy your visit to London as much as we did !

I found the room in very decent condition.
Sure the hotel has not been open yesterday and bring it up to date might cost some money but I cannot rate it badly for not been in line with the next door tower. It is very clean, functional, spacious and the location for me that I need easy access to Canary Wharf is ridicolously near.
I can believe that some had a bad experience and I did myself in other hotels, but I ve been treated or should I say mistreated in 5 stars hotels for which I pay more than 5 times more per night by unprofessional rude staff. Here friendliness make up for whatever others claim is missing

I read previous reviews about this hotel and was worried to say the least but we had a really lovely time. Yes it is a bit tired and dated but it was clean that to me is the most important. There was evidence of the hotel undergoing some refurbishment in the way of new carpets. We were there on a 4 night 5 day holiday with Acklams so breakfast and dinner were included. There was plenty of choice for both and the restaurant staff were lovely and attentive. There was hand sanitisers everywhere and staff wore masks so felt very safe. Check in was swift. I would say to anyone who is considering this hotel please do we would not hesitate to go back. Thank you to all staff for a really enjoyable stay.

We stayed there on a 'London spectacular' trip organised by Caledonian Travel. I really enjoyed staying at the Britannia. It had a good location in Canary Wharf, close to the underground and DLR, giving quick access to the whole of London. The twin room we stayed in was huge, with a view over the water. The beds were comfortable and the room was equipped with a tv, kettle and cups for tea/coffee, a hairdryer, iron and ironing board. Tea and coffee was in plentiful supply, and although housekeeping was not offered during our 4 night stay, you only had to ask at reception for new towels or bedding, and it appeared promptly. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food offered was good, with a carvery every night and a good selection from the buffet. I have already recommended this hotel to friends.

Me and my partner visited this hotel and stayed 3 days, we came with national holidays, we can honestly say this is the worst hotel we have ever experienced, staff were rude and abrupt on arrival, hotel bar and downstairs area was clean and tidy apart from the drinks were very expensive for the hotel we were staying in. We was well aware prices were more expensive whilst in London but paying almost £30 for 2 drinks was way over priced. We was given out room key and upon entering our room we was given for our full stay we was welcomed by green fluffy walls, body hair in the bed, carpet mites/moths that had eaten the carpet away which left holes and tears around the bedroom carpet, the heating was broken so was blowing out freezing cold air constantly, damp patches on the ceiling, dangerously loose sockets on the walls. We then complained and asked to be moved rooms, a member of staff came to the room straight away and did move us to another room and offered us a nicer room with a balcony view which we was very grateful of which seemed brilliant, beautiful view, clean, nice and warm but only to walk into the bathroom to find poo inside the toilet which let us down. Not only the room but we went down for breakfast in the morning and the breakfast was more than below average, sausages were obviously cooked in the microwave, no colour, the bread was stale, scrambled egg was dry crispy obviously sat there a long time and watched the chef come out with new scrambled egg and topped straight on top of the old. The new scrambled egg was still inedible covered in some sort of liquid, the best thing over all was the cold juices at breakfast.

My husband and i stayed at this hotel for 4 nights on a National Express package. On arrival i was suprised how nice the entrance and lobby looked and check in was quick and easy. We had a nice room on the 8th floor it was spacious with a lovely comfortable bed. True the bedroom furniture and carpet was a bit dated but the room and bathroom was very clean and that was all that mattered, you`re not there to sit in your room all day.
The evening meal and breakfast was adequate and there was enough for us although the food could have been hotter. The dining room has a lovely view of the river.
We used the bar a couple of times and found the prices not to bad for a london hotel, the bar service was a bit slow but luckily not too many people in the bar.
the hotel isn`t too far from Canary Wharf station. Maybe a map to get there would have been better some thing for the hotel to think about. Luckily our tour driver took us and explained about using the Oyster card.
All in all a nice stay at this hotel and if we ever went to London again would think of staying here again.

It't just a hotel, so it actually doesn't matter whether you're single or not. There isn't anything like a single party or something like that in the hotel itself, however, just a few steps away, in front of the Canary Wharf Tube station there is a bar which could be an ideal place to have a date.

It not not exactly walking distance, but there is a DLR station very close by. Given the fact that it is not only reasonably priced, you are better off staying here than staying in Zones 3 or further out, only ending up spending alot more time in the commute. I've lived in London for a few years, and I have to say this place ticks all the boxes. But then again, don't expect luxury, but in my books, it is sufficient
