I have booked this hotel twice in the last month. On both occasions I was informed just 48 hours before arrival that the hotel was closed for essential maintenance and moved me to another hotel. Seems odd that the essential works have taken over one month. Why take the reservation in the first place? If you book there don't expect to stay there
We booked this hotel based on the photos and proximity to Paddington for a one night stay in London . We checked in with our daughter in the morning but could not see our room as it was too early , not a problem .....until we got there at 9.30pm ! Some very clever photography had made a shoebox ( family room , don`t make me laugh ) that overlooked a brick wall at the back of the hotel look like a suite ! Not only that but the room stank of silicon , the result of recent building works . The manager at the reception accepted that he knew previously about the problem but also said that no other rooms were available .... he did remember after 10 mins that they had a sister hotel next door and showed me to an unexciting room there . Needs must , we said yes . At that point , we discover that the receptionist had just let the room to someone else , brilliant ! Ultimately we paid £20 taxi fare to go to the lovely Exhibitionist hotel in South Ken , should have gone there in the first place !! It has taken six weeks to get a refund through Booking.com , and numerous phone calls and emails . It is only thanks to Lourdes at the hotel that this happened, whilst the hotel were originally at fault , Booking .com have been shocking. Impossible to get through to anyone and have a rational conversation . At some point, hotels have to take sensible photos of what they are offering , and not offer the Hanging Gardens of Babylon when they are offering a flower pot !…
Very good service. Clean, good breakfast. Situated in center of London, very close to Paddington rail station and subway. You can get whatever you want very easy. Nice surroundings. Compliments to Bogdan from reception.
I stayed for one night after arriving into Paddington, and picked this place due to a convenient train-station location. Not too bad, but blink and you'd miss it (I almost walked into the McDonalds next door!). Staff were friendly and accommodating, letting me check in early, which was nice. The room was tiny, as to be expected, but at least the shower was a decent size. Rooms were comfortable, and amenities as expected for a Mercure. There's a restaurant downstairs, which serves okay fare, and has a good breakfast too. There's plenty of other options around too if you wish. For convenience to the station, you can't beat it. Clean, comfortable, yet small... it serves its purpose.
The hotel itself was a bit old. We stayed in a twin room on the first day and the room was found a bit tiny and old. It was on the 1/F which was quite noisy near the road and my daughter found pretty unsecured to stay. However, staff Bogdan was kind enough to change us to a higher floor. The second day we booked an executive room which was up to my expectation. Yet, its perfect location (just right next to Paddington station) and the helpful staff DO compensate everything. Bogdan and his colleagues were all welcoming, polite and helpful. Thanks to them my daughter and I had a wonderful stay in London!
