Westminster
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.

Wasn't sure what to expect in the middle of the city - but it is a quiet place, mostly, comfortable beds, clean, friendly, helpful. The breakfast was very good! Nice atmosphere in the bar restaurant area. Unusual entrance and reception is upstairs - but pleasantly surprised

We just returned yesterday from a five-night stay at the hotel, and I would highly recommend it!! The hotel sits above a lovely pub, so in the morning, a delicious breakfast is served right downstairs from our rooms, which is comfortable and convenient when you wake up and just

Party of 9 for evening dinner. Tried different pies, ales & wines. Very good food & good service. Booked a table in advance. Not hotel guests, but very well looked after. Look forward to a return visit.

The concierge at our hotel recommended the Sanctuary for a traditional pub lunch. The pub had a lovely atmosphere, busy but not loud. Both my husband and I ordered a pie which was delicious. Good sized portions and very tasty. The service was prompt and attentive without

Only came here for drinks and food but it certainly didn't disappoint. Service was really good and the food was great. I had a steak pie which was very good and my partner had a beef Sunday roast which also looked very good. Good traditional pub.

When I watched the fireworks in London this past New Year's Eve, I was surprised at where they were - just down the street from The Sanctuary House Hotel. You would not be able to see them from the hotel, but a short walk towards Westminster Abbey (1/2 block at most) will get you into the action. We LOVED staying there - so convenient. The tube is at most a block away, and we walked all around down the Thames, to Trafalgar Square, St. James Park, etc. Highly recommend.

What room would be good for staying with a 9 year old?
Children did stay at this hotel, but were placed such that I did not hear them. I would check directly with the hotel for this question.

The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, the multifarious complementary amenities in the room—the fridge, the Espresso machine, the electric hot-water pot, the variety of packets of cocoa, coffee, tea, biscuits/cookies—the spacious bathroom with ample towels, the umbrella shower-head, the perfect temperature of the hot water on a cold October night; the hotel's old-fashioned individuality; its access to the Ale and Pie pub downstairs with its splendid choices for breakfast; and most of all, its closeness to Parliament and the centre of London. It's impossible to narrow it down to one outstanding thing. The aspects I have named are merely parts of the whole Sanctuary House experience!

Can the Superior twin room be two separate beds?
The twin beds are slightly larger than the standard American version. They were very comfortable and we just kept the beds separated. The bedding and linens are wonderful.
