Neighbourhood
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.

The room was marvellously well-equipped; extras such as the gowns and toiletries were of good quality. The bed was fabulously comfortable, and the location is tremendous. All in all, a great hotel for a weekend break.

The ability to get to the Tube and the eateries nearby made it very convenient. The did have a problem with the AC when we were there Sept 20-22. After complaining multiple times, and their promise to repair it. They did send a fan to my room. After the second night, they finally acknowledged the AC was broken And moved us to another room. That worked well since my original view was the trains and my new view was the river. My room was on the small side but others in our group had larger rooms. So luck of the draw. The towels are great and while the tubs are high and difficult to step in at least they had a rubber bath mat. What they really need is a handrail to hold on to as you step into the tub. The breakfast was excellent and we had a group dinner there which was good too.

Rooms were super clean and well maintained. Proximity to tube station is marvelous, as well as next door to Tower of London. Staff was excellent. Restaurant was clean and food good. There are several pubs and restaurants in vicinity.

I used to stay here many years ago on business and it seemed to be a snappy place for business travellers. Great location in a quiet but convenient area. Now it seems a bit tired and definitely is showing wear. The staff is friendly, courteous and helpful. Bu the rooms are showing a lot of wear. Ours had a pipe smoke smell to it. They do seem to be renovating parts of he hotel so hopefully it will be improved in the next few years.

We had a family room. It was big enough for the 4 of us. There were robes, but I don't remember about the slippers. I loved this hotel. We had a great view of the tower and it was so easy to get around.

Yes, there was a fridge in the room we were in, but I do not know if this applies to all rooms. I did ask reception to empty the fridge to allow me to store medication I need, but they declined. The fridge was stocked with their expensive offerings, and I had to shove my medication on top of cans and bottles. When I came to check out I knew there was going to be an issue, because the fridge has sensors to indicate the movement of any of the items in it. The receptionist said that I had used £17 worth of contents to which I had to argue that I hadn't and explained why. They did remove the charge immediately. So, I would ask for the fridge to be emptied before hand, and if they refuse, use the medical or I am an alcoholic excuse and see what happens! Otherwise try and find a place for your bottle of wine, and be prepared for the argument about using items from the fridge when you checkout!

No. The Grange at Holborn would be better.
