I recently stayed at The Peninsula London, a name that I associated with impeccable service and a deep understanding of loyal customers’ expectations. To my dismay, the experience was a complete letdown. The hotel, famed for its origins in Hong Kong, shockingly lacked the presence of Asian staff, which was noticeable everywhere except the Cantonese restaurant. This was not only surprising but also disheartening, as it felt like a departure from the hotel’s roots and the diverse, inclusive culture that I had come to appreciate in their Hong Kong establishments. The service quality was a far cry from the exceptional Asian-style hospitality I have experienced in other Peninsula hotels. There was an evident disconnect in how guests were treated, and it felt as though the hotel had forgotten its loyal clientele who valued the unique Peninsula standard. Furthermore, the ambiance of the hotel was bewildering. Stepping into any area of the hotel felt more like entering a venue in the Middle East rather than an establishment with Asian heritage. This drastic shift in atmosphere felt like a betrayal to guests who, like myself, were fond of the traditional Peninsula charm based on their Hong Kong service. In summary, my stay at The Peninsula London was a profound disappointment. The hotel’s deviation from its roots and the lack of standard service quality have left me feeling alienated and disenchanted.

This is the Place to see and to be seen. The view from the lounge bar at 8th floor is magnificent… all around wrapped with thousands of light and cristal… The menu of happy and sparkling drinks and tapas is very inspiring. I love the concept of design

We recently had a wonderful stay at the Peninsula. The building was stunning as you would expect but it was the level of service that makes the hotel stand out. Without exception the staff were warm, attentive and completely charming. We brought our little dog and everybody was so kind to her it made our stay. The food at Brooklands Restaurant was top notch and the all the staff including the very knowledgeable sommelier were superb. We would have gone back this weekend if it wasn’t shut!

Decide to eat as a family in the Lobby restaurant. Service was genuinely exceptional. Perhaps the best in London. Food is relaxed and uncomplicated and delicious not too fussy. Amazing place from Which to “people watch”. Have a walk in Hyde Park to build up an appetite or to walk it off!

This review is of the restaurant primarily- excellent and I love that their is a tea steward with all sorts of custom blends- I just wish they'd write out some of these- they say it is too many but I'd really like a list. The staff in the restaurant is excellent and it's a lovely atmosphere. The cafe I have visited twice and it's small and nice but staff are not in a good mood or friendly at all.

We have just returned from our much anticipated stay at the shiny new Peninsula London and it was most definitely worth the wait! This luxurious new hotel is everything it claims to be and more. From the moment you walk through the grand doors you are transported into a world of spectacular opulence. We stayed in a Grand Premier Park room and it was amazing. Floor to ceiling windows with a fantastic view of Wellington Arch. The room facilities are state of the art, and the spa setting in the bathroom is incredible! The staff are extremely welcoming and are clearly thrilled to be able to invite guests into their hotel. Service is demonstrably paramount to the hotel’s ethos and this was evident with everyone we met. The management have instilled a culture of accountability and responsibility that is unparalleled and impressive in such a young team. Huge thanks to Marion Castillo and her guest services team who looked after us expertly in the lead up and during our stay, providing a tailored personal service that makes all the difference. Brooklands bar and restaurant on the 8th floor are the jewel in the crown and an absolute must visit. The views across London are incredible and provide an amazing backdrop to a fabulous experience. We will most definitely be back to enjoy the spa and wellness centre when it opens. If the rest of the hotel is anything to go by, it will be quite something to behold.

Background: My first introduction to Peninsula hotels was in 1967 whilst watching a James Bond movie, “You Only Live Twice’’ which featured a car chase following a green Rolls Royce -JB lost the trail only to be told it’s destination was the Hong Kong Peninsula as this was the signature mode of transport for their guests. I was only 9 at the time and made up my mind that one day I would also do the “Pen Rolls Royce” experience……. Fast forward, as an adult I have been fortunate to have stayed at some of the best hotels in the world but strangely never a Peninsula despite visiting cities that have a Pen including Hong Kong. I was determined for this to change when I learnt that Peninsula had bought an existing office building in Belgravia at Hyde Park corner facing Wellington Arch but it was still quite a few years later that it finally opened after additional delays due to Covid. At £1bn it is clear that no expense has been spared. I was in touch with the hotel pre opening team because I was especially keen to stay as the soft opening was due to coincide with my 65th birthday trip (only a few rooms would be available during this initial phase) starting in London and ending on a cruise to Alaska and via the Beverley Hills Peninsula. So, in a nutshell, some 55yrs later I got to experience the “Peninsula Brewster Green RR” Just to add to the competition London has a few top of the range hotel openings at the moment but I feel the Peninsula will be raising the bar/competition among it’s closest competitors albeit it is hard to coax away guests who have a long standing relationship with a similar quality hotel but irrespective from my brief stay I am sure it will be a success. Like any soft opening not all facilities/rooms were available but my experience was a very positive one and it’s clear that the staff are already in the Peninsula mode of providing a higher level of service than most of it’s competitors. Check in was in the room which was very spacious (typically 50m2) with a prime view of Wellington Arch as I had requested* By London standards as an entry level room they are huge with a separate dressing room (mahogany panelled) and a non standard bathroom design which I liked -bath with TV in the middle and shower/toilet either side along with his and hers sink areas finished is in honey onyx stoneware and a heated floor. The bedroom had full height windows and despite facing Hyde Park corner (busiest roundabout in the UK?) was very well sound proofed and afforded an all important good nights sleep. Everything in the room is electronically controlled via a (thankfully) user friendly iPad including a mini version on the side of the bath. We had a chance meeting with the GM -Sonja, in the inner courtyard (which has a centre piece of two 120yr old Japanese Maples) before going off for our evening meal -its was good to meet her and have a brief chat. Sonja has a track record with PHG and I am sure she will make the London Pen a “must do” landmark on the London hotel scene. Afternoon tea was very busy and seemed to be mostly made up of locals so it is already having an impact. Breakfast was served in the foyer lounge (I believe this will change to the rooftop restaurant Brooklands?) Service was a little bit too slow bearing in mind there was only a handful of tables occupied but I am sure this is just due to staff still finding their feet – I suspect if it was more busy guests would start to get frustrated but it’s all work in progress….. If I had a complaint it would be the hash browns, although crispy on the outside the centre was still uncooked and it looked just like a McCain frozen brand, something one would get at a Premier Inn, not a Peninsula otherwise everything else was excellent along with a huge bread basket which could have fed the 5,000….. Overall a very elegant and stylish hotel -thanks to Sonja for the “get well gifts” as my wife was unable to make it due to being taken ill before the trip. I wish her all the best with her new “baby” which I am certain will grow up to be a significant big boy on the block….. Next stop The Beverley Hills Peninsula where I will be staying on my actual birthday -two Peninsulas in one week after a 56 year delay! *Although I had booked the Grande Premier View room (pictures as per the hotel website) the actual room, although facing the Arch was a “deluxe/premier” style with the bed facing sideways as opposed facing a bay window and is larger. As we had a busy schedule immediately upon checking in I did not make a fuss but did mention it in passing to Sonja who said that she would investigate. I suppose I will therefore have to stay again and also look forward to having a longer chat with Sonja....

Top class service from the premier global hotel group. Lobby restaurant food very agreeable. Bar service also perfect. Slightly weird that we were the only non-Middle Eastern people in the whole restaurant, but I guess that is because it is Knightsbridge?
