As a 5 star hotel it does everything that you would expect with the usual 12.5% service charge. We had a couple of drinks - diet cokes, which barely covered the bottom of the glass - we were definitely still thirsty but dare not ask for any more or another drink. The Victoria sponge cake was so small it was...

After extensive research about London accommodation options, our family (2 adults, 2 children) decided to stay at The Ampersand for four nights from Dec 31 because it seemed to offer the right mix - relatively reasonably priced (for London), convenient position and beautifully decorated. The hotel did not disappoint - friendly staff, a warm and welcoming lobby area and lovely...

Situated at 1' walking for the tube South Kensington, (picadilly line which is direct from St Pancras !) Friendly and efficient staff from check in, bar, breakfast, check out. Tastefully decorated rooms with very comfortable beds. This charming hotel is just perfect.

The hotel is easy to find, and excellently located. Unlike many London hotels which feel like they have taken worn-out-old-world-chic too far, The Ampersand uses the beautiful building to its full advantage, while also being modern and warm. The Welcome at reception was great, check-in simple. The room, while small (11m2), was excellent, with the most made of every bit...

I hate to not give this hotel a "5" because there were so many things to love about it. Service was very professional yet personal. The design was adorable. The room was spotless. The beds were comfortable and the linens and toiletries were luxurious. We had great meals (breakfast and dinner) and enjoyed the Drawing Room for an evening drink....

The Ampersand is a hotel that we fell in love with and will most certainly be staying at next time we venture to London. 5 things that made the Ampersand great: 1. Location 1 minute walk from South Kensington tube stop, which is on the Piccadilly line giving you direct access to both the best of London city and Heathrow...

A perfect stay by all means. I travel for business mainly staying overnight and, the Ampersand offered me what I always look for. Quality in service and product. I stayed at the Ampersand in January with my wife and I can highly recommend this hotel. Very stylish interiors coupled with very polite and helpful staff ensured a very comfortable stay. The area around the hotel is very pleasant with many local cafes, restaurants and delis (we chose to eat breakfast at Muriel's Kitchen opposite hotel every morning for...

Perfect stay for the night - beautiful, well-thought-out design with attention to detail in the bathroom and the bed was ridiculously comfortable and spacious. Very quiet and tucked away from the hustle and bustle of London! The breakfast was really great - my eyes were much bigger than my stomach and wanted to eat everything!! Good, slick service. Overall would...

Unfortunately, I was sick during my stay in London (in the room for 5 days) and the hotel staff were very accommodating and attentive. The hotel is lovely and a great location, and the afternoon tea was a delight!

Staying in South Kensington

Neighbourhood Profile
South Kensington
With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall) such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming and cosmopolitan as it is reserved and residential, South Kensington is always a hit with visitors.
