With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall) such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming and cosmopolitan as it is reserved and residential, South Kensington is always a hit with visitors.

Typical crappy budget hotel. I booked late through Agoda - it was not apparent in any way this was an Oyo. Overpriced. Typical stained carpets , especially on floor 1 landing - what kind of people stay here and what are they doing? Pathetic attempts at removal only highlight the muck that's in the carpets - clean the lot! I was in room 100 - on the back of he hotel. DO NOT IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES STAY AT THE BACK. ( Take my advice and don't stay at all ).There is a crappy amateur nightcubby hookah smoking music playing water feature running 'attraction' which has people turning up at all hours and goes on past 2 a.m. outside and to the rear, in the 'garden' area. Totally inconsiderate and ridiculous. Consequently very little sleep. Thanks. They are greeted by the night 'manager' effusively as all are obviously mates or family. The room, typical knocked about, ill - maintained paintwork and fittings / carpets, blinds did not work properly, no aircon, ( fan supplied ), double glazing did nothing to keep noise down, paper thin walls, hear taps/running water, toilets flushing etc. all night, weird banging noises, these get really bad around 7:30, one of noisiest places never mind hotels I have ever experienced. Room too hot - God only knows what it's like in summer. You could open the window but there's that crappy music.......The 'wardrobe' simply an alcove in the wall. 2 decent pillows, bed itself acceptable from comfort point of view. Decent bathroom. Don't cough up a tenner for crappy breakfast. I had a look - dog's dinner. I have looked at other reviews - can't believe there are excellent ones - and by the way reviewer, Brompton Station is NOT next door - the nearest tube is Gloucester Road, which is a ten minute walk away, followed by Earl's Court which is a little further. Brompton's a good 20 minutes away which makes me suspect the review. Anyway, if you stay here, you have been warned, you deserve what you get. The cheeky g*ts want £3 per bag storage - anywhere decent does not charge at all. I would not recommend or stay here again for anything.

I can only describe staying at this hotel as one of the most TRAUMATIC experiences of my life! I urge you not to book for your own safety! I decided to travel to London alone to visit museums and London design festival and I chose this hotel due to it’s location. Outside, I was made to feel uncomfortable by receiving strange looks by a group of men who were unloading into the basement of the hotel, as a 28yr old woman travelling alone this made me feel quite vulnerable. On entering the hotel, I stood at the desk for a few moments before the receptionist bothered to lift his head to address me, not exactly a warm welcome. Upon checking in my room, I found my room run down compared to the photos on the website, but I shrugged it off as I was only staying one night. While I was in the room, I tried to lock the door from the inside, but the dead lock did not work. After a day of sightseeing, I arrived back at the hotel around 11.30pm to find there was no one in the foyer. No receptionist, no security and the door open to anyone. This made me feel incredibly uncomfortable as and I was already aware that the dead lock was broken on my room door. I struggled to sleep thinking about how unsafe the situation could be. While I was trying to sleep, I turned the TV on. There was no remote, intermittent signal and after around 30 mins the light in the room and the TV turned off completely, adding to my pre existing anxieties from being in this hotel room. A hotel room that I had paid £88.82 for one night. I was thinking to myself, “is there any way this could get any worse” and I was soon to find out, yes it could get a lot worse, quickly. Unable to sleep, at around 2am I went to use the bathroom to find COCKROACHES swarming the floor, shower and door. They then started swarming into my room and around my bed. I didn’t know what to do. The attitude I received from tnhe receptionist on arrival had made me feel uncomfortable, so I didn’t want to have to go down there in the middle of the night to try and resolve the situation, but I couldn’t stay in a swarm of ever-increasing cockroaches surrounding me. It took me a while to muster the courage to go and search for a staff member to help me in this awful situation. I went down to reception to find a member of staff sitting in the seating room area. I told him there were cockroaches in my room and he replied with an “oh…” I then suggested to him to come and look, and he shrugged it off saying he believed me. This made me feel like he was already aware of this problem. I asked what he was going to do about the situation, and he was extremely passive saying he couldn’t do anything until the morning as they were fully booked, and management weren’t available. He made no effort to apologise or take responsibility for the problem. He was the only member of staff on night shift, so clearly it is his responsibility. I found him very arrogant and defensive. As a young woman travelling alone, I began to panic as at this point. I was stuck with an uninhabitable room to stay in or any staff that were willing to help me. It wasn’t until I expressed my upset that he suggested he could transfer me to a “sister hotel”. He wrote down the name on a piece of paper and described the hotel as a 5-minute walk. No attempt was made to arrange any transport and he was happy to see me leave the hotel. After a long walk I found myself completely lost in London at 4am by myself! I stopped to try and find my location on google maps to find he had given me the wrong directions; he had described it as a straight walk up the main road but that wasn’t the case at all! I was then approached by a man who began to follow me and shout derogatory comments, I couldn’t quite believe that the member of staff had suggested to me that it was safe to walk and didn’t bother to arrange a taxi! It became apparent the member of staff had absolutely no regard for my safety. Thankfully, I managed to seek refuge in a 24hr Tesco’s and was able to call a taxi to the “sister hotel”. I arrived at “Barkston Rooms” around 4.30am and realised it was a hostel. I didn’t want to sleep in a hostel, which is why I paid for a hotel room when planning my trip. The receptionist was fast asleep on the desk and after around 5 minutes I finally was able to wake him. This receptionist was friendly and sympathised with my situation. He even apologised for my room explaining it was on the top floor of another building around the corner, he even joked that he hoped there would be no more cockroaches. I took the apology with a spring in my step thinking nothing can be worse than the previous hotel. Walking through the hostel, it was clear the entire place was derelict. My room was up around 7 flights of rickety stairs with missing floorboards. The panels of glass in the doors were smashed and the overall aesthetic a disgrace. The room was comparable to a prison cell, I understand hostels can be very basic, but I had paid £88.82 for a 3-star hotel room to be transferred to a 1star, £7 a night hostel! After googling the hostel, I found it was a “halfway house” which regularly housed homeless people. This left me feeling unsafe and paranoid about who I was sharing a building with. Also being so high up I was worried about how I could escape if there was a fire. There was no way I could sleep here, so I decided I had to leave and arranged the first coach home at 6.30am I hadn’t planned to leave until 8.30pm but with no sleep I was completely run-down and felt distraught over the entire experience. Cockroaches can carry serious diseases and are known for biting people, they can also lay eggs in clothing. I’ve had to wash all my luggage and throw my bag away as I am distraught over the fact, they could have laid eggs in my clothing meaning I may of carried them home with me, potentially infecting my house. This is a serious issue the hotel is liable for! If my house needs fumigating, I will be taking legal action! It is the hotels responsibility to provide a habitable environment, which was not realised in this instance, so I am demanding at very least a full refund for the hotel room and for the travel costs. I will also be reporting the hotel to the environmental health department.

Positives Comfy pillows and mattress Bedding was clean Bathroom clean The woman working on the front desk was polite. Not so great.... Not a welcoming place to stay, the room was small and dark, no curtains or soft furnishings. Marks on the walls and carpets, the mirror was chipped and smashed. Male member of staff was extremely rude to the woman checking me in, peering over her shoulder and shouting 'you're doing it wrong' which I thought was unhelpful and unprofessional. He didn't acknowledge me and continued to berate her. The window in my room was so stiff I had to ask staff to shut it for me as it was wide open but I then could not move it in the night and the room was boiling hot. I can see there are similar comments from months ago, I am assuming nothing has been done as the hotel is still busy and management are making money but my advice would be stay somewhere else! You can get a lot nicer for your money

We booked in on 21st August 2019. Initially given basement room 010 (next to the hotels laundrette), small room, hot and noisy with a poor window view. Room was shabby with a broken door lock. We asked for a room change and allocated room 312 (third floor). The lift was small with a light bulb that flickered off when the door closed. Room 312 was small with no chair and all the tea making facilities etc. cramped onto a bedside cabinet size table. Kettle didn’t fit under the basin taps so we had to pour cups of water in to fill it, cable TV had channels that had poor signal. The room had frayed stained carpets, chipped furniture, also a rotting mouldy window frame with broken blinds and missing slats which allowed light in at night. Shower room very small with mouldy nooks and crannies, flaking ceiling paint, broken and wobbly floor tiles. The list of fails are too many to mention. Photos uploaded to show the poor standard. Poor security at night as on two occasions we found the front desk had no receptionist when returning in the late evening. Stay at this hotel was a disappointing experience especially when considering the location and the clean hotel front exterior. Our advice to anyone reading this review is to NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL.

Disgustingly dirty,we only stayed 5 minutes and quickly checked into the Mecure next door.Travel agent is requesting a refund for us.Never seen anything like it.The rooms were small dirty and no air con.As we arrived 90 mins before check in we were charged $12 for holding our suit cases. When we asked for help with our luggage we were told they don’t provide that service. We had to struggle up the stairs on our own, which was difficult because my husband had difficulty with his mobility. One star is too high a rating
