The Clarendon Hotel overlooks historic Blackheath. This area of London is very special with Greenwich Park, the River Thames and many fine attractions to visit. Situated in Blackheath Village with its many special shops, cafes and bars to enjoy, the Clarendon offers a village atmosphere close to the O2 Arena (10 mins), Central London and Excel in Docklands. All rooms are en-suite with facilities such as the Meridian Restaurant, Nautical Chart Bar. Parking - the hotel has a front and rear car park, however these do get filled. For alternative parking, there is street parking or the Blackheath Village train station car park, which has CCTV. With Blackheath in front of the hotel, we are of course dog friendly.
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to VisitEngland.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

The problem with an hotel like The Clarendon is that it is lucky about its location (overlooking the Heath in Blackheath, where I have lived for nearly 4 decades!), having said that, my stay of just one night over a week ago was thoroughly disappointing to say the least. My room overlooked the car park, this proved to be challenging as car doors were being slammed all hours of the evening and into the night, people chatting in the car park at rather high volume without any concern or respect for the residents of the hotel! My room was decent enough, but, although I am NOT an hotel inspector, my attention is always drawn to the detail and, in this case, there were quite a few things that need taking care of. 1. one of the bed-side cabinets had a hole with protruding bits, not a really nice sight, is it? See photo. 2. Tea/Coffee facilities very average (plastic tray with very little choice of tea/coffee) and a kettle that was positioned near the tv set which I then subsequently moved on a different table as a bit more comfortable and practical there. See photo 3. The bathroom had the most annoying and loud creaking floor.... not on for a room that is vital during a hotel stay. The soap dispense for the sink was attached to the wall BUT distant from the actual sink! Not too sure why but such an awful design! See photo. 4. No other toiletries (just another dispenser by the shower wall and a lotion dispenser by the wall on top of the toilet seat..) offered for the bathroom. Again, for the price paid, it is quite cheeky (not to say offensive) to treat guests that way... 5. The TV had lots of channels BUT only a few actually worked... What is the point of that?? Do some checks and maintenance and offer a modern tv set with Netflix etc instead of antiquated channels that do not come up anyway. 6. The room sound proofing was not good... 7. No air conditioning at all in the room... only a small fan provided in case... See photo 8. When asked if I could have breakfast delivered to my room the following day, I was told yes, BUT at a charge of £12.00..... Crazy stuff, considering my room was priced at an already rather expensive rate! 9. Going to the breakfast room in the morning, this room was literally rammed, I asked for a table and was told to sit where there is an empty table... Breakfast was buffet style but hardly any choice for a Continental style breakfast. Again, why? I know the hotel is frequented and booked by all sorts of guests of different nationalities, so offering mainly a cooked English breakfast is certainly, in my opinion, very narrow-minded. 10. Again at breakfast, I asked if I could have a cappuccino, but was told the hotel does not provide this.... I said "What? Why?" to which I got no reply as the waitress clearly had no idea (no training to explain to a guest why not). A hotel that does not offer a cappuccino at breakfast?? That is simply unacceptable. This means I won't stay there again. It is a shame, but I will find somewhere else, which invariably will be more distant from the Village...

Dear Ermy, thank you for review and your feedback. I am sorry for any issues in your room, we will certainly look at the improvements that you suggest to your room, with regards to our award-winning English breakfast, there is no extra charge for this to our guests when taken in the restaurant or adjacent gardens, but as you mentioned if room service is required, we feel a charge is acceptable as there are additional staffing costs elements. I am sorry about your cappuccino coffee, we do have some new staff with us, and we will certainly go over this point. We always serve locally roasted Drury’s filter coffee with our breakfast, if a cappuccino is ordered, there is a charged applied. August has been very hectic for us, with many people visiting this beautiful part of London and Central London, I am sorry if we were busy at the time you took breakfast with us, we generally have a full complement of staff serving, however it does depend if our guest come down for breakfast at similar times. Once again thank you for your review, as also a local Blackheath person for 50 years it would have been loverly to meet you and talked about your stay and the old days. I do hope you will try us again, if you do, please call Megan in reservations who will assist you perfectly. Kindest regards Ken Milton General Manager

Amazing 3 night stay for the London Marathon weekend April 2024. Comfortable and clean room, very friendly and helpful staff, great food and fabulous buffet breakfast. Easy walk (10 mins) from Hotel to Marathon Start lines. Good transport links to hotel and back into central London and a lovely area to explore. Will certainly stay again when next in London.

I stayed for 2 nights, wanting somewhere close to the O2 where I was attending a concert. I was not familiar with the area but enjoyed it very much, it is at the bottom of Greenwich park which is a lovely green space. My check in was efficient although finding my room wasn’t the easiest to the unfamiliar as it’s quite a warren of corridors.
Once in my room, (double bed) I had no complaints, it was very clean and well appointed, with sufficient space. I understand they have recently been updated, there were certainly sufficient power outlets and provision of a wall mounted fan was appreciated.
The bath room (shower over bath) was fresh with soft towels. Despite the size of the hotel it was quiet during my stay, although I wonder if this would be the case when Events are held.
Breakfast was great, busier on the Saturday understandably but most items were promptly replenished, and I didn’t feel rushed. The gardens were very pleasant to be in.
Overall, very satisfied with my stay, other than a few minor niggles there were no issues which is quite rare for a hotel at this price point.

Dear padprod, thank you for your O2 stay review, I am so pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay with us, many guests attending events use the hotel, as you know. we are ideal for the venue with good links to the venue especially the 108 bus that runs 24 hours, and uses the bus lanes. (great for getting home quickly) Thank you also for your kind comments regarding our rooms, award winning breakfast and value. Thank you once again. Kindest regards Ken Milton General Manager

I dont know where to start. We were at a wedding in this hotel and was dissapointed over so many things. In the bathroom the towel rail was hanging off the wall, the bath was dirty. The carpet had terrible stains on it and the beds had a funny smell so I slept on top of the bed because the bride to be (my cousin in the next bed ) found what looked like a flea in her bed. We both had bites by the morning. There was no cold water to drink and when asking the waiter he said " we dont have bottles of cold water". The day was one of the hotest in August and not a drop of cold water anywhere in the hotel. There are no sockets next to each bed, only over the other side of the room on the dressing table. The whole of the hotel was like sitting in an oven, no airconditioning anywhere. Speaking to a member of the staff he said its always like this and he cant wait to get home and get out of his hot uncomfortable uniform.
I missed breakfast because I had an upset tummy from the previous nights dinner. I went to the dining room to get some toast and a bottle of water ( hoping for cold water ) and the waiter said you can have tap water !!! no I want a bottle of cold water, again no cold water.
Looking at the photos everything looks beautiful, well the photographer certainly earned their money, they did a fantastic job making the hotel look beautiful. The hotel needs to be modernised with airconditioning, new carpets etc. The hotel is a nightmare for anyone who is not totally ablebodied, there are no ramps, lots and lots and lots of stairs. I think it is very expensive here and definitley not worth the money.

Dear G3976, thank you for your review, I am sorry to read that you did not enjoy your stay with us. I would like to look into your stay and if you could send me more details I will certainly look into your comments. With regards to water, the hotel always has 2 complementary drinking water stations in reception by one of the front doors, we also sell Kingsdown bottle water in both of our bars or reception along with a vending machine in the reception of the hotel. I am also sorry that the hotel does not have air conditioning, we did have some very hot periods in August as you mention. Please do send me details on your room, and as I say, I will look into this further. ken@clarendonhotel.com Kindest regards Ken Milton General Manager

We had a family party in one of the function rooms. The staff were amazing! So helpful and the whole party went smoothly. It was one of the best nights we have had as a family. Some family members stayed at the hotel afterwards and were impressed by the rooms, they all enjoyed the breakfast the next morning.

We booked this hotel to go to a concert at The O2, as it was in a perfect location, with the bus stop being right outside and only a 20 min journey.
When we checked in the lady on reception made no effort to converse; she literally told us where our room was and sent us on our way. A warmer welcome would have been nice after a three hour drive.
Our room was underwhelming; it was very dated. The fire door to the room (383) needs adjusting, as it wouldn’t shut as it was stuck on the carpet.
The bathroom floor tiles were so slippy that we both slipped on them (dry, not wet). When we turned on the shower the water came out of every orifice other than the shower head and it was way too hot. There were two big hairs on the back of the bathroom door.
On the day we checked-out, we were having a lay in after a late night. There was a knock on the door at 9.30am and by the time I had got to the door the cleaner was in the room! It’s a good job I had pyjamas on! She said we should put the do not disturb sign on the door, but to me, if our check-out time is 10.30am she shouldn’t be coming to the room before then anyway! We have until 10.30am to relax.
Overall we found it to be a very average stay; it served its purpose being convenient for The O2, but we wouldn’t recommend it other than that, which is a shame.

I stayed at The Clarendon for the last few nights of a long work run (where I routinely stayed at mid-range chain hotels). The cost per night was only about £20 abovice the chains, putting it firmly in the price category of most business travellers. The extra few pounds was absolutely worth it. Other than the slightly dated decor, I couldn't fault my stay. Free on-site parking, the food was great and the staff attentive. Due to some early starts, I missed breakfast. The staff brought me fresh pots of coffee, toast & jam and provided packed lunches without being asked. I'd definitely stay here again.

We received a very warm inviting welcome after parking our car for free. Room was very nice, comfy, good size over looking the heath. Hotel is in a great position for walking 2 minutes into Blackheath village, 4 minutes to the station. Breakfast was very nice, good selection of hot and cold food, buffet style, eat as much as you like. Check out was very easy too. Only very slight, and I mean very slight disappointment was we thought we was getting a bath, we got a generous size wet room that was spotlessly clean with great selection of toiletries and soft white towels. Would we revisit - absolutely 💯 % as all the staff made you feel do welcome, nothing too much trouble, always smiling and acknowledging your presence.

We stayed in the executive suite (room 85) and sadly found the shower room was very cramped . I would have expected a bath/shower in a suite tbh . Nice fluffy towels and Elemis toiletries.but no robes sadly and had to request a second bath towel . Basic Tea/coffee/bottle of water and fridge in room .Perfect position for getting to the O2 , bus stop outside takes you there in about 20 mins and runs return till the early hours . Plus the tube is available close by. Nice and quiet with pretty gardens .Free parking a bonus . Only grumble really was the breakfast ..which was devoid of some items even at 9am and which didn’t appear after requesting them …the tomatoes & bacon on the buffet were undercooked and the scrambled egg very watery. Lovely dining room and hotel staff all helpful . We visited the Nepalese place PANAS GHURKA close by and it was fab . Thoroughly recommended ! As previous reviews.. it is a little jaded in places ..by very clean . Would stay again if visiting the O2 as it was so easy.

We chose the Clarendon for its proximity to London (a half hour by train) and the reasonable rates, a fraction of what you'd pay in the city. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. A full breakfast buffet is included and it's ample and delicious. Staff are all helpful and efficient. We arrived before check-in time and were recovering from our transatlantic flight and train from Heathrow; the staff kindly agreed to store our luggage behind the desk and when I asked for a cup of tea, a tray arrived with a teapot, cups, lemon, sugar and biscuits. I knew we were in good hands! The Clarendon is less than a ten minute walk from the Southereastern rail station. Connections can easily be made to London and all points throughout the UK. Blackheath is a popular destination for families. Recommended!
