Very noisy at night. Food was horrible - rice and sauce, practically no veggies and chicken was mostly bone. Rooms were as you would expect and reception staff friendly enought. All in all bring ear plugs and pot of noodle with you if you stay here.

Its not the first time i am staying here. However i got to stay here alone for a full week and experience everything there is to. First the convenience its IN central London. You can walk within 15 mins to all the places in Central London, shop, get a massage, eat in your fav place etc. Second for a room all to yourself same quality that you would pay 200 GBP or more (not including food) in a regular hotel you pay 100 GBP including food. My room was maintained every day, fresh towels, good shower, clean bathrooms the works. The food is Indian, stellar and authentic both veg and non veg. The hours are strictly enforced and last minute showing up at closing time is frowned upon. Indian YMCA ISH is really a high quality hotel masqurading as a hostel. Now the downsides. Its hard to find rooms for short term stay (a room all by yourself daily housekeeping etc). Second its a hostel full of first time stay away from india kids who need to be told their boundaries. The staff will do the same for you. They dont print boarding passes unless you ask them nicely. Dont throw tantrums remember you are paying half the price for the room, getting free food and clean rooms in addition. Dont say service is bad. The Service is about managing kids who stay there not your five star hotel. Be nice dont throw your weight around. If you follow the rules you will get great food, service and a great central London experience. …

This is my honest review just wanted to share my experience without being prejudice to anyone particular. I have been discriminate by one of the serving guy (presumably he is one of the chefs dressed white with white short beared). All the stuffs in YMCA are wonderful & friendly except this serving guy (presumably he is from South India). As this place advertised & charges for dinner BUFFET so I presume everyone can ask for food as much as you can. Anyway as per my experience goes I have noticed this guy have some attitude problem & he does not seems like people comes back for food second time that's strange! I love Indian food in the YMCA which is delicious & feels like home cooking however when ever I returned back for the second time especially I don't eat rice at the dinner so I ask for chapattis instead of rice & this guy always gives 2 chappatis first time then when I ask for another 2 for the second time he seems does not like that. I don't understand what is his problem? In my last visit in the month of September I have noticed he has been talking & laughing with his colleagues about me because I ask for extra chappatis. Also in a previous occasions I have seen he gave me 2 chapattis from 2 different container presumably first one was freshly made & the second one from the morning as per the taste was two different. I don't know if anyone of you have noticed this as I am thinking of making a complain to the YMCA senior management about this guy. What is really bother me that I don't understand south Indian language so I don't understand what he is talking about regarding me behind my back but as per expression of his face & attitude I can feel uncomfortable & I am sure something is wrong with this guy. I have seen this guy always there in the evening & he is the main person serves everyone food at the counter . Please share your experience if you gone through similar experience like mine…

Visited today for lunch which is a set menu which changes daily. Food was very tasty, staff helpful and service quick. The curries came with popadoms and pickles and there was a choice of water, buttermilk, tea or coffee to drink. This is a no frills budget restaurant but we’ll worth a visit.

I had a night stay and find the place good. Positives are cheap price, great location with easy access and complimentary Indian breakfast. I had Pongal, Vada - coffee was not great - may try Tea if I stay again. Negatives are sounds that come from outside and almost till 2:30pm it was a little uncomfortable. Talking to few others who stayed, they told they did not even noticed it. Bath and Toilet facilities are adequate if staying shared. Lift worked when I checked in - but did not work in the morning. Forgot my brush and tooth paste and luckily Tesco Express is 3 minutes walk. I will recommend if you are not looking for luxury and wants to have an Indian environment.

The YMCA Indian students hostel is a very disappointing place. I stayed there a week this month and this was my experience: 1. The single and shared rooms in the basement are highly avoidable. Badly ventilated and noisy, they do not have lift access and you get there through dingy passages and many steps, so too bad if you have luggage. 2. My room had a noisy heating mechanism, which sounded like loud water droplets the first two nights and then nothing short of a train track on the third. This can be a problem with old buildings, but my written and oral complaints to more than 5 people at the reception and maintenance went unheard. I was sleepless for most of the week, and the response of the staff was between tepid to simply ignoring my polite repeated requests for repair. A room change was not possible since the hostel was fully booked. 3. Knowing their location and their price, the Indian YMCA student hostel knows that they can get by with taking their guests for a ride. This they do by charging the full tariff amount at checkin (not checkout like most hotels/hostels) and then you are simply trapped into staying there. 4. The food timings are restricted, the chefs mostly loud and rude in telling you to finish up eating, and the dishes are poor. The rate card for guests at meals is simply not worth it. Coming from India, I can say that the Indian food here is really below average. 5. IF you stay a week, your room is not even cleaned once. Only if you stay more than a week do you get cleaning - why these strange rules? Overall, avoid staying here despite the great price and location. It is uncomfortable and not worth ruining the rest of your time in London.…

1. Superb location, simply outstanding. 2. Tube station, bus stop, pubs, shops, everything at a stones throw distance. 3. Delicious healthy food served. 4. Extremely loving and caring staff at the reception as well as the cafeteria. 5. Extremely cost effective. 6. Great vibe with young students, families, and solo travellers from around the world, living and eating together under one roof. Special mentions: Paul, Tirupati, Antonio, Fahad, Rani and the entire reception and catering team were outstanding.

I was told about this hostel by my brother who lives in Yeovil. I booked their double bed attached room for 2 nights, the first 2 nights in London after which we moved to Feltham. The location is excellent in Fitzrovia and the Warren Street underground station is at a walking distance. My room was, I won’t say very small, rather just sufficient for 2 adults, but who cares, for the price paid its way too much. My room cost me £92 per night with dinner and breakfast included. Front desk was quite helpful too. They have a cloak room for which they charge £1 per bag per day.

YMCA Indian Student Hostel is a great place a stay in central London for students and for family too. I stayed here twice with my family. The price includes breakfast and dinner meals too. However you can eat lunch here too but you have to pay for that. The food was good. It is just 5 mins walks from Warren Street Tube station. The other attractions Madame Tussad, Lodon Eye, Sea Life Aquarium etc are nearby and can be reached easily by Tube. I will definitely love to stay here again when I visit London again.
