It is a very centrally located hotel within walking distance of 3-4 tube stations. The facility is a old facility but is comfortable. The living quarters are not fancy like 5 stars but comfortable. Ideal for those on a budget. The plus is that they serve Indian food morning and evening. Lunch is paid for. Food is authentic Indian and tasty and also unlimited. Its a good place for a short stay. Most of the other residents will most probably be India students and Indian tourists. I would recommend this place.

I had a night stay and find the place good. Positives are cheap price, great location with easy access and complimentary Indian breakfast. I had Pongal, Vada - coffee was not great - may try Tea if I stay again. Negatives are sounds that come from outside and almost till 2:30pm it was a little uncomfortable. Talking to few others who stayed, they told they did not even noticed it. Bath and Toilet facilities are adequate if staying shared. Lift worked when I checked in - but did not work in the morning. Forgot my brush and tooth paste and luckily Tesco Express is 3 minutes walk. I will recommend if you are not looking for luxury and wants to have an Indian environment.

I travelled solo to London for my research work in 2014. So decided to stay at YMCA Indian Student Hostel as it is located in the heart of the city. You can easily walk to British Library, British Museum, Tafalgar Square, London Eye and some of the other places in London. The rooms offered are with shared and private bathrooms. Since I am a budget traveller, I stayed for two months in a room with shared bathroom . The rooms with shared bathrooms are extremely small and are typical box rooms. Also, the common bathrooms were extremely dirty. First I felt that it was the cleaning staff who were not doing their work properly. But after staying for first two weeks I realized, it was the other Indians who kept it so dirty. Being an Indian, I felt really ashamed to see their toilet habits. The toilets in YMCA Hostel were worse than the toilets in some of the Shopping Malls in London. One have to 'really' adjust with it. Bedding, duvet, table, chair and closet are provided in the rooms. The cleaners come at 9 in the morning to clean your room. They have extra key to the rooms, so even if you are there or not there, they will open the room and clean. Therefore I used to be little cautious with money, passport and other valuable things while I was away. Besides the location, the other option which made me stay there for two months was cheaper rent. I paid 49 pounds per night and it included room rent and compulsory breakfast and dinner. If you are staying at YMCA and also have lunch (for which you have to pay extra) there, you will see that often the food especially lentils served at lunch is served to residents the next day for dinner. So beware of eating stale food.

It was a lunchtime in 1983 when I last ate at the Indian YMCA restaurant, when my then boss, who is an Indian, suggested it: I would never have found it otherwise.
It's rare I visit this part of central London these days, but I was wandering through Fitzrovia a week ago after visiting the BT Tower on a London Open House event; I had completely forgotten the YMCA existed and was surprised to come across it again. It brought back some pleasant memories from more than 40 years ago.
I didn't have time to call in then, but I resolved to do so the following Saturday (yesterday). I ordered the fixed price £20 thali which was delicious and filling. All the items were good and seemed authentic to me.
Overall the food was excellent, and I will certainly return (with some friends next time).
We will also be investigating some of the amazing Fitzrovia pubs!

Very noisy at night. Food was horrible - rice and sauce, practically no veggies and chicken was mostly bone. Rooms were as you would expect and reception staff friendly enought. All in all bring ear plugs and pot of noodle with you if you stay here.

Visited today for lunch which is a set menu which changes daily.
Food was very tasty, staff helpful and service quick.
The curries came with popadoms and pickles and there was a choice of water, buttermilk, tea or coffee to drink.
This is a no frills budget restaurant but we’ll worth a visit.

the Indian ymca is the finest place to stay when you are in London especially for south Indian as they charge just 70 pounds per day inclusive breakfast n dinner very sumptuous. it's very centrally located and warren street tube station is just 2 minutes walk n easily locatable. only problem is the shared bath / toilet.....guest should be prepared to clean the wc before n after use......however it's a worthwhile stay for indian tourists especially from state of kerala/tamilnad/Karnataka/Andhra. Leicester squire, Trafalgar squire, baker street n many museums are just 1 or 2 stops in tube from warren street tube station. you would never get a better location than the indian ymca....please go for it....it's a guarantee....

The first rule “Please” and “thank you” for every request in UK. Even you are supposed to say thank you to the driver when you de-board the bus. Plan your trip well in advance and at least six months. Air fares, hostel / B & B rates are cheaper. Tube travel is a boon in London. You are not charged for more than 6.4 pounds a day for three trips and anything above is free. (Travel between zones would cost around 9 pounds- there are five zones for the tube train). The moment you land at Heathrow, find out the Oyster card which can be used for Tube (underground rail) or bus travel. Those who want a guided tour can avail the Hop on Hop Off bus. Take a Sim at the Airport- Lyca – 50 pounds... Validity for one month. Free UK calling for one month, 100 mins free talk time to India. 5GB data free use full for Google maps. (Less costly deals are also available). Once you have the Oyster and Sim you are ready to ravel in London. Taxi is too costly. Ensure you have a UK electrical adaptor to keep your cell phones and camera batteries charged.
Identify the spots you want to visit. London tower/London Eye/Trafalgar Square/ Buckingham Palace, Big Ben/ Ferry ride/Madam Tussads etc. Ensure you mark them on map which will help you in identifying the nearest underground train station. Virtually tickets are available on net for all the locations- Eye/Tower/big Ben/Tussads….This will help you in saving lot of time avoiding queues for buying tickets.
If you want to have a look at the change of guard at the Buckingham Palace which is normally ta 1100 hrs. in tourist season.. Ensure you are at the fence at about 1000 hrs or else the crowd is too much that you would have to locate yourself down the square or on the approach road form where you can see the Bobbies marching but the change of guard is not visible.
For Indians Tap water is good enough, you may not have to buy still water. Food for veggies is has a very selective range. Keep a water bottle with you. Drizzling is common and hence have a jacket with you, which would save you from cool weather as well as when it is drizzling. Sport shoes and casuals of any sort are suitable for the sightseeing. Always keep a change of 20/30 Pennies for the comfort rooms.
While returning if you travel by tube to Heathrow ensure you are on the right train. The display is terminal 123 and 4 or 123 and 5. Board the right train. However in case you board a train not intended for terminal five there is a specific announcement to alight and catch the next train at specific stations. If you are in a group and travelling by tube... ensure a meeting point in case few of the group members miss the tube.
Gatwick airport is far away takes at least one and half hour form central London. Ensure you have web check-in done for any air travels otherwise it will cost you 50 pounds for a single print out for Ryan air and easy Jets from the airport desk. If your departing flights are form B and C gates at terminal 5, ensure you travel to the terminal well in advance. It takes at least 20 mins to get to the B or C gates from the security clearance spot.
The signs and information provided is excellent and unbelievable at all the spots. If you are watchful you shall be able to find out all directions yourself.
YMCA Fitzroy square was the place we stayed in at a distance of 2 mins walk form warren street.

I don’t know how can someone lock up his luggage in a wardrobe. I believe you’re asking about the cloak room. If that is so, then cloak room is common for all boarders. You don’t get any personal cloak room or personal locker for your luggage. Cost is £1 per luggage per day as I have already mentioned in my review.

Hi, The room in which we stayed had moulds in the corners of the shower cabin and soap holder. You would also need to tell the house keeping people to change your towels and only then they will do it. Also there is dust in the vents of the bathroom. Having said this, you may register a complaint with the reception and they may be able to help. In my case the light suddenly went off and they got it checked and got it back again. My stay was only for 5 days, however I did notice a lot of students staying here and would believe they were staying for long. Hope this helps.
