Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I will Never stay at this hotel again ! They took two payments out of my account instead of one plus the deposit ! 10 working days gone by and STILL no payment ! I am so angry upset and disappointed !!! What a way to treat customers just before Christmas ! Shocking !

Stayed at Sea Containers and had a fabulous 1 night stay visiting family in London. Debora on reception was welcoming, friendly and ensured we had all the necessary information to make the most out of our stay. Many thanks to Victor Wareborn Front of House Manager at Sea Containers for his assistance in making our stay so memorable. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

While only for a short trip, Sea Containers is a 10/10 must stay location. Easy to access all the wonderful sights, restaurants, bars that London has to offer, extremely comfortable rooms with top notch amenities, and fantastic service all around, I only have the best things to say about Sea Containers. A real treat of a venue. Very lively and quirky in a fantastic location. The staff are on a mission to be helpful and for the most part achieve it with aplomb. The level of facilities is second to none, so much so you have to remind yourself that the point of being in London is to visit places outside the Hotel. I cannot wait to spend another weekend here.

A novel idea for a modern day hotel not to turnover the room for a two night weekend stay, so dirty teacups, towels left on the floor, bed not made etc If we’d known we would of stayed somewhere else.

Dear Ivan, Thank you for sharing your experience, and we sincerely apologise for the oversight regarding the cleanliness of your room during your two-night weekend stay. This is certainly not the standard we aim to uphold, and we deeply regret the inconvenience it caused. Your feedback is essential to our improvement, and we appreciate your candour. We understand the importance of a well-maintained room, and we acknowledge that we fell short in this regard during your visit. We regret that this oversight impacted your stay, and please know that this is not reflective of our usual standards. In such situations, we encourage guests not to hesitate to contact our front desk team immediately. They are available 24/7 and would have been more than happy to address the issue promptly. Once again, we sincerely apologise for this lapse, and we appreciate your understanding. We hope you might consider giving us another chance in the future to provide you with the exceptional experience we strive to offer. Warmest regards, Vanessa Hills-Felton Guest Engagement Management

Great location, fantastic rooms, very quiet. The staff were all very friendly, the room was great and a very lovely bathroom and shower. I would definitely stay here again. Only minor point worth mentioning was that the room was quite warm and couldn’t get the temp lowered.

Was really looking forward to staying here for a weekend with friends seeing shows, but unfortunately it was a disappointment in several ways, when taking into account the nightly rate charged. Firstly, on check in we were told not only did we have to pay the full cost of the rooms we’d booked but also a £200 deposit per room. When we asked why it was so much we were curtly and patronisingly told “well the mini bar is worth £300”. I can safely say the minibar was not “worth” £300, that’s just what the cost of it came to due to their extortionate charges! We also noticed that the total charged for the room was more than expected and this was due to a 5% service charge being added. I had heard of this before we visited so was expecting it on checkout but not on checking in. When queried, we were told it was a new thing so it had been charged on check in instead of checkout and it could be refunded later “if we wanted it to be”. As others have said, they’d be better off paying their staff better and fairly rather than relying on stealth charges. One of our rooms wasn’t available immediately which was fine as we could at least drop our luggage in the other one but when we went back to get the keys for the second room, they tried to charge us again and after lots of wrangling and explaining how we’d already paid, the error was finally admitted, but no apology was forthcoming, just a fairly curt “yes you’re right” and key cards handed over. The rooms were ok but I wouldn’t say they’re as special as the room rate would have you believe. Minibar items were over the top and took up a relatively large amount of space. They included a £30 candle and £20 room sprays, plus an unusual “couples accessories tub” which contained various intimate items. Never seen that in a mainstream hotel before but maybe I’ve led a sheltered life! It also wasn’t made clear whether bottled water left on the side was complimentary or £4 per bottle per the minimal menu. Beds and pillows were comfortable but aircon was difficult to control as it seemed to either be far too hot or far too cold. Carpet was worn out and badly stained next to the bed in one of the rooms (see photo). The bathroom had a shower over the bath which whilst a bit dated, ordinarily isn’t a problem in itself, but the bath had such a high side and wide surround it was actually a hazard for getting in and out unless you had extremely long legs. Anyone under 6’ would struggle and anyone with the slightest mobility restriction wouldn’t manage it. The spa wasn’t great either. It basically consisted of expensive treatments and just a steam room that had to be prebooked but which didn’t seem to have any availability. Lots of bars in this hotel but all except one didn’t open until about 5pm so nowhere to get a drink whilst waiting for friends or for the room to be ready except a small lobby/lounge area where the service was from a lone waiter who gave the impression it was his first day. When asking if they did cocktails the reply was simply “yes”. No option to go to the bar, so you had to hunt around for the one waiter to provide table service and then had a 12.5% service charge added to everything. 12th Knot bar was quirky but had the atmosphere a bit like the final hour or two of a wedding! Prices again were high and service charges galore without the option to remove them until checking out. Overall the stay was tarnished by the ambivalent and fairly rude reception staff on check in, non-existent spa, obsession with service charges, awkward bath/shower combo and tatty decor in places. I’m now waiting to see how long it takes for the deposit and service charges to be returned to my credit card. I also have another booking here in a few weeks and am likely to cancel and stay somewhere that offers better value, because the promise of a luxury stay with top notch service just didn’t seem to be delivered.
