Sea Containers London garners high acclaim for its pristine cleanliness and the professionalism of its staff, with guests frequently lauding the attentive and friendly service. Nestled in a prime location, the hotel offers easy access to local attractions and boasts scenic river views, complemented by stylish, contemporary design. While the comfortable, spacious rooms with modern amenities are a hit among travelers, some have raised concerns over the value, citing unexpected charges and pricey amenities. Despite a few maintenance issues and the occasional critique of the ambience for being too dark or music too loud, the hotel's overall atmosphere and amenities receive consistent praise.

The staffs are amazing especially Catrina the cafe barista- she made the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had in my life and that’s a high bar to reach . She should be Employee of the month and she made me smile with her smile she is so kind and truly brilliant 😀 she deserves all the best and has been here 2 years and never been Employee of the month ! She is lovely and is someone to talk to she is just fabulous . She works so hard and deserves a raise. She works at Sea Container Hotel South Bank. The team take care of you like family whether staying at the hotel or not all the staff are great 👍🏽 (thank you Vannessa for helping me with the review site it was tricky - shoutout to the Dj music amazing) This is my letter of recommendation to Catrina. She gave me a hug for this but I would do it without a hug 🤗 I hope this helps her

My girlfriend and I decided to stay in sea containers to celebrate our anniversary and we were not disappointed! We chose Sea Containers due to the price, location and style that we had seen online, and I am so happy we didn’t go anywhere else. The hotel was stunning, and so beautifully decorated and despite the daunting scale of the foyer you feel right at home immediately.

If you are not a fan of the usually stuffy nature of hotels which all seem to have the same ambience as you walk in then this hotel is definitely the one for you, it’s got so much more character and style than anywhere we have stayed before.

The bar downstairs was great and the staff in there were all very helpful with us trying to find the right cocktail. It was also nice to see staff in the foyer not in some overly starched white shirt or some other uniform. Whilst they were in uniform it all seemed a lot more casual and comfortable and really helped the environment.

The best part of it all though was the view, we stayed on the top floor facing east and we had the most incredible view of the city. We got there around 4 and to watch it go from the light of the day through to the city all lit up at night and then the sharp light of the sun rise was incredible and despite living in London for the past 5 years that was truly the best view I have seen thus far and I was completely blown away by it.

A couple of gripes but I’ll keep them short: the a/c in the room was pretty poor and the room got pretty stuffy, and the controls didn’t seem to do anything. Also the pillows weren’t my cup of tea, I know they’re definitely some people’s preference but not mine. Finally, we ordered two continental breakfasts in the morning which were rather disappointing, the pastries were stale and the yogurt made both myself and girlfriend a tad unwell. Also it cost us around £50 which is staggeringly expensive for what it was.

However, I’d go back Sea Containers in a heartbeat and will be recommending it to anyone and everyone. It’s a wonderful hotel with completely unrivalled views of London. If you are visiting for the first time or staying for a staycation you have to stay here and fall in love with city all over again.

Stayed at the hotel for my birthday this October and we were lucky enough to be able to have a balcony room overlooking the river.
Given that Covid is a concern, the hotel help by offering on line check in and check out via their app which also enables you to order room service, look at your bill & other hotel services. Hand sanitiser is available on all floors within the hotel.

The hotel restaurants and bars were closed in the evenings (on Monday's and Tuesday's) but given how quiet London is was not really any great surprise. This is information is clearly available on their website so we knew we would be eating out in the evenings, but given it's location this was not a problem.

First impressions of the room were that it was everything we had hoped it would be and you can't help but notice the fantastic views across the river & the city.
We could see Blackfriars and Waterloo Bridges from the room and at times there would not be any traffic on either bridge and the river was very quiet too.

The room was excellent - a large balcony with seating, with exellent views up and down the river & over to St. Pauls. The bed was huge and comfortable (some might say a little hard but it suited us) with a seperate large seating area along with a table for in room dining.
The bathroom had a large free standing bath and seperate rain shower.

The hotel restaurant was open for breakfast and although a little pricey, was very nice. Certainly good enough that we ate there on both mornings.

Overall I would highly recommend the hotel - it was clean, welcoming and the views were great. The location was great for what we wanted, close to Waterloo station, the Shard, the OXO building etc.
The hotel very kindly gave me bottle of champaign for my birthday which was a very kind gesture given that business must be difficult at the moment. We would highly recommend this hotel and would happily stay again.

Stayed here for a weekend break for two.

In a word FANTASTIC.

Couldn’t fault a single thing.

Had an issue with the original booking which the Guest Relations managers pulled no stops to resolve, resulting in an upgrade to a suite.

From the moment you walk in there’s an air of quality and efficiency. The decor is carefully designed to mini pc an ocean liner and just to reassure there’s no shipping containers.

The suite was impeccably maintained and serviced.

We opted for the breakfast option and again I’d recommend it as the quality and freshness of the food cannot be faulted. However you may eat more than you intended to be warned.

The location for walking and sightseeing along the Thames again is superb with all the major London attractions easily accessible by foot .

I’d also recommend an evening in their bar The 12th Knot - great cocktails overlooking the city of London.

From the moment we stepped into this hotel we were treated to amazing service from the guy that showed us where to park and the receptionists.
The hotel itself is very stylish and comfortable. I loved the changing signs in reception.
We drove to the hotel so as to avoid public transport, this proved to be the right decision as we made use of the private car park which was very secure. £45
We used black cabs which were mostly electric to get to our destinations across London, around 15 minutes to Oxford Street/ Knightsbridge, 10 minutes to The Sky Garden.

We had our temperatures checked and after a quick check in we arrived at our river balcony suite which was amazing!
Lovely views of the Thames from the balcony.
Tea and coffee making facilities.
Gorgeous products in both the separate loo and the bathroom equipped with a roll top bath and walk in shower.
The room has a sofa bed and dining table as well as the usual desk etc.
The style of the room is modern/trendy and very comfortable.
The bed was superb.

We ate at the restaurant which looked out onto the river and all of our food was delicious.
Breakfast due to Covid-19 is room service only, we made use of this due to us having a dining table to eat at.
My granola and yogurt was lovely, the pastries were overpriced but delicious.
We had a cocktail in the lounge due to there not being a free table at the Lyaness bar, the menu was reduced but the cocktail was lovely.

We would not hesitate to stay here again and we will definitely return once the roof bar is open.
If you book direct and sign up to Shipmates you get a discount.

The only slight disappointment was that I was asked if it was a special occasion and it was our sons 18th birthday, no mention of this during our stay.
I filled out a feedback form with the hotel and received a reply straight away.
Impeccable service.

My reservation in February was cancelled due to lockdown 2.0, so I made enquiries to rebook the room for June. I seemed to have two people dealing with my reservation by email, and one of them cancelled the booking and refunded me the money whilst in the process of agreeing a new date - which was annoying.

The new date was rebooked and the emails promised the same room for the same price, but upon arrival breakfast was now a cold 'grab and go' breakfast in your room which wasn't what I had booked the first time. I could however upgrade breakfast for £15 per person. Of course I could.

In the room all the cut lead glasses and every extra amenity had been removed - I actually thought the room had not been finished. Even the coffee cups had been replaced with paper ones with wooden sticks to stir. This was one of the nice parts of Sea Containers that made us book again, nothing was mentioned in the booking about this.

We checked out using the express check out. The following day I emailed in to query my bill, as the price of the room was not what was confirmed in my booking email. Over a week later I am still yet to hear...

A stark contrast to our stay a few years ago which was 5* all the way.

Travelled as a couple in July 2022

Booked this hotel on a whim (to make the best of the London weather) and this happened to be one of the cheapest 5* hotels around. Booking was straightforward and we paid extra for a city view room.

As a native Londoner I've long seen the bright blue SC logo and have wanted to visit here for a while but I felt really underwhelmed.

Front of house were super helpful generally but when we checked in, we were told that the only room they had was a non City view room and it was only when we pulled out the confirmation to prove we did in fact pay extra for this, did they magically find us an available room. When you're paying this much money per night you expect that the hotel has the correct information on its systems.

Anyway, we went up to the room and I was shocked at the size. I appreciate the entire premise of this hotel is to mimic a ship, but the bed was tiny! No way was that a king sized bed.
The room itself didnt look super clean - I had to pop out to get some wipes to wipe things down - not great during these times when Covid is still aroumd.

A member of staff popped in - I genuinely did not believe he worked there (no name tag and not wearing the nautical uniform that the FOH was rocking) but he had an oversized shirt on which was untucked and scruffy. DH let him in (as he saw his keyboard) and he asked if he could check the minibar as they hadnt completed the last guests' inventory. There was a random bottle of water on the bedside and DH queried if that was complimentary and the member of staff said that the previous guests may have left that... it just felt really disappointing that we were then left questioning whether the room had in fact been cleaned/inspected as thoroughly as one would expect from a 5* hotel.

Check out was fine, had to queue a bit longer than we'd like but we had asked for later checkout so imagine it would have been even longer had we left with the herd of people.

Actual building looked great, very unique and the back of the hotel takes you directly on to the river walkway so location is great.

Would we return? Probably not. Would I recommend the hotel? Only if it was super cheap.

It doesn't sing to me as a 5* hotel but the quirkiness of the hotel and the bar is something to visit.

Surprisingly just above average in every way except location and sleep quality, both of which were excellent. The suite had no view (one with a view was unfortunately not available) but it was clean and decorated in a minimalist style. The hotel app was reasonably user friendly. The room service was average and a mistake was made which could not be rectified on the night because the service stops at 23:00 due to the pandemic and the mistake was not apparent until after that time. The vast bathroom had a cheap and disgusting shower curtain that was surprising to find in a hotel of a supposedly high calibre.

We have always wanted to stay at Sea Containers, so booked for 3 nights. On first impression, the reception designed by Tom Dixon is lovely and the hotel location is great. It was my fiancé’s 50th and they gave us a glass of bubbles on arrival.

The room had a good view, quite cosy but clean and tidy. However, all luxuries had been stripped back. No coffee machine, glasses, minibar, cushions or throws. So the room looked very plain compared to the photos online. Having stayed at many 5* hotels over the world we at least expected some bottled water.

The bed was uncomfortable, it was a spring mattress and was a bit “crunchy” each time you turned over in bed. We both struggled to sleep. When we booked we opted for “good breakfast included” this was simply a paper bag with 2 pastries, an apple, granola pot and an orange juice delivered outside the door around 8am. The contents didn’t change for the 3 days we stayed, so we built up a collection of Granny Smiths in the room. We were told that if we wanted a hot breakfast we had to book on arrival for all 3 days at £15 per person per day.

I had booked a spa treatment in advance. We went to have a look at the spa when we arrived to be told that you can only use the spa area if you have a treatment booked and no other facilities were open, including the gym. So I cancelled my treatment as my fiancé was going to use the gym at the same time.

On our first night we wanted to go and have a few drinks on the rooftop bar the 12th Knot only to find out it was closed on Mondays and there wasn’t another bar open within the hotel, so ended up walking along the Southbank for a few drinks. We went to the 12th Knot on Tuesday evening. The views are good, but not a lot different from the view from our room. The service was very slow, we waited 15 minutes to order a drink and it was not even busy. The staff seemed disinterested and a bit off. There was also no vibe/atmosphere.

We ran out of time to visit Lyaness, but this wasn’t helped by the fact that it was closed on Monday and Tuesday.

On our last day we went over to the rooftop restaurant/bar Seabird at The Hoxton Southwark. The staff were very attentive and the food and cocktails were amazing. There was a real vibe and in hindsight we wished we had booked to stay at The Hoxton instead. Looking at the other hotels availability too we are unsure what we actually got for our money at the Sea Containers.

Apart from the location the only other positive was that the front of house staff and doormen were very polite.

Bearing in mind that all restrictions have now been lifted, we cannot understand why the small luxuries have not been replaced in the rooms. Removing the minibar, in case someone touches it, when the remote control for the TV is still in the room….. baffling! As it stands, the Sea Containers is not worthy on it’s 5* rating or price tag.

Stayed here for a special birthday and had a lovely suite on the fifth floor overlooking the river. The view was wonderful and the suite was clean and comfortable with every amenity. Don't expect all rooms to have a river view, as some just look onto office buildings. The hotel has a modern contemporary feel, with a relaxed atmosphere. We enjoyed a late night cocktail in the 12th Knot bar, although it was very busy on a Friday night and booking a table is recommended. The bar had great music and a wonderful view of the river. Breakfast was pretty good, although very busy on a Saturday morning and the hot buffet kept running out. It was a challenge to attract the attention of the waiting staff to order eggs, coffees etc. The hotel is in a fantastic location on the South Bank and is very close to Blackfriars Station, the Oxo Tower and the National Theatre. The hotel has a gym and a spa area which looked nice, although we didn't have time to use it. The hotel was happy to store our luggage after check out. I would definitely stay here again for a special occasion or book a table in the 12th Knot bar for evening drinks in a fun atmosphere.
