I stayed in the hotel at the end of January and I had an OK stay. However, there was a small change required in the invoice for the stay and I have sent over 10 emails and the hotel has refused to even acknowledge my emails nor address the issue. Very poor after sales service.

What a major disappointment! We returned to The Sumner after an enjoyable stay many years ago. Big mistake! The hotel is in major need of a refurbishment. We booked a "luxury" room which cannot, under any circumstances, be classified as such. The first "luxury room" was on the second floor. The double glazing is poor and needs replacing so it was very noisy. We therefore asked if they could offer somthing else - which they could. We had to change rooms again because of extensive mould in the bathroom in the next one we were offered. After that, we accepted the best they had available. Unfortunately they charged the full amount of the rooms on arrival otherwise we would not have stayed at all. Damaged furniture, damp and yet more mould in the bathroom. And then there was the bed that sunk in the middle and the cracked window too. The staff were sweet and tried their best, but head office is in India and they were not allowed to make any decisons locally regarding a price reduction. I had no luck with the Head Office either. After responding to my first mail, head office just ignoned my two follow up mails. Breakfast was not that impressive either. despite the wonderfully friendly lady in charge. She did her best but when they cannot provide a range of fresh bread, and the croissant are not freshly made either, she is in a losing losing battle. Avoid this hotel!

An extremely clean, small yet friendly hotel located a short walk from Marble Arch. We only stayed one night and the room was a good size, actually larger than I expected, spotless and comfortably warm. The en-suite was equally clean, very well lit, with all the usual toiletries and had a good shower. Although there is no tea and coffee in the room these are available from reception, at no extra charge, and served in the comfortable lounge any time of the day or night. Breakfast is included and the small self-service buffet provides a comprehenisve choice from cereals, cooked breakfast, a variety of cheeses, fruit and more. We couldn't fault the hotel and will happily book again for our next short break in the capital. The only minor point is that being a small hotel with narrow lifts and staircases disabled access may be a little tricky,

The accomodations were adequate, the reaction and service exhibited were less than stellar. I booked a room for four nights for our daughters tripe to Europe to celebrate their graduations. Our daughters came back to the hotel after a day of sight seeing to a room that smelled of smoke. They were told by the front desk personnel that their smoke alarm had gone off and they had to enter their room four times throughout the day to and stop the alarm from going off and open windows to disperse the smoke. They were unable to explain where the smoke came from. The hotel was at capacity and could not move them to a new room. They were told to sleep with the window open. My daughters are pretty easy going and knew there weren’t a lot of options so they asked for extra blankets (which they never received). Upon checkout they asked for a rate reduction on the room and were told that management would need to approve it. I contacted management and after two weeks the manager decided a good gesture would be a 10% discount on another stay and a bottle of wine. Definitely not the “gesture” I would expect from a hotel that holds itself out to be of a better caliber. I would book at your own risk and hope that you don’t have any issues. Upon reading recent reviews it appears that management is not on site and does not react to customer’s issues or empower their team to handle.
