Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stayed here during the week, I couldn’t fault anything. The gym & spa were immaculate and the staff were so friendly. I visited the Old Poste House on the evening for dinner which was fast service and lovely food. I would definitely be staying again.

Used a few weeks before as we needed a hotel that accepts small dogs . Last time was really good . Charged £10 for the dog . In 4 weeks the charge is now £30 . The room was a lot smaller and bed was a divan with a piece of ply wood screwed to the top . Very noisy from event room . Shower hardly used and worn out . No Plugs beside bed which meant my cpap machine lead trailed across the room . All these things wasn’t like this the month before . Real shame as it was so lovely last time

Dear kevincG9552RI, Thankyou for your feedback! I think there may be confusion about the dog fee pricing. The last time you stayed it was for 1 night and we charged £10.00 per night , however due to the rising in pricing all around the UK recently we have raised our fee to £15.00 per night. Your most recent stay was for 2 nights therefore the fee was £30.00 in total, we do apologize if this caused any confusion or was not communicated in the correct way. Regarding your comment about the room sizing, the last time you stayed you booked an Executive Double, which are larger than the Standard Double room you had most recently booked which is cheaper in price due to this. If you would like to stay again in the future please let us know before hand so we can try our best to accommodate as you did request a ground floor room due to disability which we did do, however we do not advertise as a disabled friendly hotel. We do hope you stay again soon to help us redeem ourselves ! Kind regards, Management.

Check in needed photo ID - think this can only be because they get a lot of trouble. Rude staff - stared at our table all evening. Dreadful food - ordered burger for lunch, not sure it had ever come from a cow. Beef for evening meal - chewy and tasteless, yellowing soggy broccoli. Breakfast in the morning was not much better - couldn't cut the bacon and sausage was like the burger, cheapest you could buy wholesale. Wine selection was awful. Building itself looks rundown as does the general clientele. Strong smell of weed.

Hello Lindsay, Thankyou for your feedback. Upon check inn you are asked for Photo Id to ensure the safety of yourself and the hotels, this policy is used across many hotels in the UK and around the world. We do apologize if you felt as though this was an issue but as mentioned it is purely for safety reasons. Concerning your comments about our Bar & Restaurant, we sincerely apologize that the service and food was not up to standards, we pride ourselves on good customer service and understand this is not acceptable. This will be investigated by management and dealt with immediately. Regarding your comments about our wine selection which includes 6 types of White wine, 8 types of Red wine, 4 types of Rose wine and 3 types of Sparkling & Champagne. We do strongly believe this menu accommodates for all types of wine drinkers/lovers however we do like feedback on ways we can improve we would of appreciated letting us know wines you would like to see! About the smell, we try as hard as we can to keep our hotel spick and span at all times however we may miss certain things, in future if you did notify the staff we would of been more than happy to quickly resolve the issue. We are disappointed you did not have a pleasant experience while staying over with us and will take these notes on board to better the hotel and make it an overall improved place to stay! Kind regards, Management

The staff were very friendly and the bar area was nice. But the rooms stunk, it was outdated and scruffy. The room were freezing as the radiators didn’t come on, after playing with them for ages. The whole place just need a revamp. Will not stay again.

Avoid this dump. Had no heating in my room for 2 days. Made several complaints and was given a small electric heater on day 3. I could urinate better than the shower flows. Furniture old and tatty. Haven’t had breakfast as wouldn’t let my dog eat here.

The mattresses are uncomfortable and you can feel the springs poking into your back. The springs crinkle loudly each and every time you move. The carpets are dirty, the windows aren’t fitted properly, the shower pressure is poor. Overall, hugely disappointing. I would not recommend to visit. Avoid at all costs.

Dear nails, Thankyou for your feedback, All our rooms get thoroughly cleaned before arrival this is a standard procedure we action at our hotel on the daily and each room gets replenished on every other day. Also in all rooms we provide you with a information pamphlet which clearly states that if you would like your towels replacing please place them in your bathtub, we do this to conserve water to help protect the environment. We do apologize that the public were being loud in the car park however we cannot stop people from holding conversations outside. Our night porters do checks throughout the evening and night to prevent disturbances on the corridors. We do have free Wi-fi that is accessible across the entire hotel, every guest is told this upon arrival. We do hope you change your views on the Sporting Lodge Inns and stay again to give us the chance to wow you! Kind Regards, Management.
