Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Bell Inn at Cawston is a lovely village pub with excellent food and service. The menu is extensive and vegetarians are well catered for. Special requests are happily catered for, e.g. can I have a starter as a main course. There is a good beer selection and it is well kept. We particularly enjoyed the ham, eggs and chips and the ice cream sundaes were delicious. In fact, the food was so good that we ate there four times during our week long stay. To top off a lovely experience, the staff were lovely. Friendly and efficient, nothing was too much trouble. We are happy to recommend and will return when we are next in the area.

We stayed in Salle next to Cawston for a week with family and were very pleased to find this little gem a short drive away.

We first booked for Sunday lunch and due to the glorious weather sat outside. The garden is stunning and we were baffled why everyone was sitting inside. I couldn’t decide on what meat for my roast so they kindly gave we half and half. Our plates were clean....very delicious roast followed by some ice cream.

We were so impressed with the quality of food and the friendly staff that we booked again for our final night in Norfolk. Again we had a fantastic meal and were very impressed with the service and how lovely all the staff were.

We were also very impressed with the the COVID precautions which made us feel very comfortable.

This has become a new favourite for us ! We had our third visit yesterday evening.
The pub itself is such a beautiful traditional pub, we love the building.
The menu is so varied, there is literally a dozen things I want to try , not to mention the huge specials board ! It's such good value too !
All the staff we came across were very friendly.
I opted for a king prawn penang curry from the specials board this time, it was absolutely wonderful, better than some I've had in authentic Thai restaurants.. the portion was incredibly generous and the flavours were spot on !
Hubby had the steak night special, with another great cut of steak. No room for dessert this time ! We shall definitely be back to work our way through the menu though !

Read reviews of the Bell Inn before booking to stay one night. Arrived and found car park full so had to park on the road outside. Walked in and quite obviously from the number of people inside, the cars in the car park weren't all owned by customers of the pub.
Our immediate impression on walking in was it badly needed updating. Looking very tired. We were shown to our room by a very pleasant member of staff. The room was absolutely tiny. Very cold with twin beds with hardly enough room to walk round the beds. I had asked for a double room with double bed. Fortunately we were able to change to another room with a double bed. Just as cold as the first and again tiny. Unfortunately to gain access to the rooms you had to run the gauntlet of the smoking area. Not ideal.
We ordered dinner. Garlic bread was very nice. My wife ordered rib eye steak medium rare but was well done and pretty tasteless.
I ordered giant Yorkshire with sausages, mash and veg. Rather dry so asked for extra gravy.
By the end of the meal we decided to go home rather than stay in the rather uninviting room.
Won't be going back.

The owners cared more for their kid screaming and shrieking than their customers. The food was average
My husband had a pie but the meat was stringy. I had a lamb roast but the lamb was chewy.
We certainly woulr not reccommend this pub

We had scampi, chips and peas here and it was fine. very reasonably priced. We also had a crumble dessert with cream, just the right size.

This is a proper old pub that serves pub grub. It’s not fancy but there is a very good choice and there were deals on steaks for two which we might try another time.

We visited for a business dinner on a Wednesday evening. The service was very poor and the staff, mainly young girls
We’re untrained in bar work. One had to be told what to serve. As she did not know what a martini is. On ordering our food we had a wait of between 45 minutes and an hour for it to arrive. One dinner was sent back as the steak - on a special steak night was almost cold and very tough. It’s replacement was equally of poor quality. My lamb shank looked and tasted if it has come out of an Aldi store as was tough and of poor quality. The other 2 dinners were reasonable but not of a good quality. Only two of us had desserts as did not want to risk poor quality.
Customer service was non - existent as the front of house staff were obviously untrained and at no time asked if we were
Satisfied. A bit obvious not as one plate was virtually untouched.
Both desserts were good

Great food with lots of choice and several specials of the day. Really friendly place to enjoy a drink and food. Pub has a selection of real ales from a range of bigger breweries like Adams and Woodford. Really enjoyed our meany visits over the week .

Very disappointed. Staying in the village so tried the Bell. Advise avoid the ‘breaded’ plaice option. Seemed to be pre-prepared and frozen by suppliers. Would suggest was taken out of freezer and straight into frier. Result resembled layers of cardboard with a hint of fish. Our table was crammed into a corner between bar and fireplace. We were not asked if the food was ok, it wasn’t!

Lovely food. Friendly and caring staff. Wide range of choices on the menu. Staff were knowledgeable and caring when we had questions.

Only negative was the lack of baby changing facilities - currently it consists of a changing mat that you have to put on the floor of the ladies loo… not ideal at all.
