We recently very much enjoyed our three night stay at the historic St Giles House Hotel which is located in the heart of the city . Our rooms were very comfortable and spacious, furnished in a pleasing modern style with large beds, one room having a small balcony. The bathrooms were equipped with roomy showers, w.c. and wash basin, all well up to standard, as was the housekeeping.
Though on a city centre street, there was little traffic or pedestrian noise.
Some of the public rooms, including the reception area and especially the library, pleasingly retain the style and furnishings of the building's historic past.
The dining area, used for breakfasts, has an art deco feel to it. Breakfasts were generous with a choice of juices, cereals, yoghurts, full English and continental. There was also a well stocked bar in the dining area.
Service throughout our stay was excellent with the friendly and efficient staff always on hand.
The hotel has a lift serving all floors.
There is a free hotel car park to the rear, cars accessing it via nearby streets. The hotel has a rear entrance from the parking area. There is on street parking subject to control.
Overall, very convenient and comfortable hotel: a very well run establishment especially given the current Covid situation.

My wife and I were married at St. Giles House on 21st December 2019 and had the ceremony, breakfast and reception all at the hotel.
When the announcement was made about the hotel changing hands half way through 2019, we were naturally nervous but the hotel were fantastic in reassuring us that nothing would change or affect our wedding day. We were not disappointed in the slightest. The staff were fantastic on the day but also on the lead up with Gerda and her predecessor Becki being extremely helpful and supportive throughout the planning process.
The venue looked fantastic and the Christmas decorations really helped us set the tone of our wedding. The hotel were also extremely accommodating in making sure our wishes for the wedding set up were able to be incorporated into the room.
The food (we had the Elizabeth package) was incredible and we had so many compliments on this from our guests. There were also some dietary requirements from our guests that were no problem at all for the kitchen to cater for. The entertainment (DJ) that was provided was great (lighting and sound all included within the price).
A massive thank you to all at St.Giles House Hotel for helping to make our day so special.

The hotel was perfectly located and was very close to the town. They gave free parking at the back of the hotel which was handy and allowed us to keep our car there for an extra two hours after check out.

The hotel itself could do with some TLC. In our room the mattress was obviously overused and uncomfortable. The bed squeaked as you turned in your sleep so it was difficult to sleep well. The shower handle was also very temperamental which made it difficult to alter the temperature.

We were given a room with a disabled friendly bathroom, although the sink was very low it was quite painful to use it with a bad back.

The staff ensured that they put dairy free milk in our fridge which we had requested. We did not order the breakfast as other reviews made it sound overpriced. Instead we ate out.

The staff were all friendly and helpful. There was a bell at the bar and staff moved between manning the front desk and the bar. There was plenty of hand sanitiser and a one way system around the hotel.

Overall would stay again for the location, although we would have preferred a different room with a more comfortable bed.

Lovely historic and stately facade to the hotel. King size room was spacious but slightly tired looking. Roomy shower cubicle with good spray and lots of hot water, the heated shower rail was good for nice warm towels. In room refreshments were fine.

Do not stay at this over rated, over priced, dirty hotel!
Booked a so called junior Suite a catastrophe from start to finish dirty toilets in reception all of them no hand towels paper everywhere this was my first impression on walking into the building. Everywhere tired and drab, very rude unapproachable staff, room had no vanity products, cables and wires everywhere, hot tap on sink non existent no flannels or spare loo roll and dirty shower mat, missing bedside light, wardrobe doors all chipped and broke.
Complained to staff asked for the manager who did not want to see us so sent a cook from the kitchen who said she had not authority and had just been cleaning toilets due to lack of staff!
In my experience hotels usual have pay on check out
When guests can go through the bill and sort any problems which may have occurred, as we were not happy to pay £220 for this poor experience the management insisted we did and came to our room on 3 occasions after we insisted we would sort this problems in the morning they were banging on our room and causing us stress!
We will be taking this further
This is the WORST HOTEL in Norwich by far !!!

I booked a twin room for my Mother and I as a perfume making experience I had booked for my Mother was being held there, I thought going on the photos, history and location of the hotel we would as were there for the perfume making stay there. The facade, entrance area, room upstairs where the perfume making was, and the garden to a degree, were beautiful. However sadly the rest of the hotel, common ways, restaurant, bar etc are very tired and over rated, which is very sad for such what was originally such a wonderful building. Our twin room also was nothing like any images shown on the website, again very poor decor, stains on the carpet, a balcony with a dreadful view, the step leading onto the balcony in the room was warped and covered in cracked peeling paint, thin curtains that in places were of the curtain rings (it was so bright from early hours keeping you awake), and the bathroom was effectively a disabled one, low level sink, wet room area with an emergency pull cord, rails for the toilet etc, no bath, and a cheap basic shelf unit to put any toiletries on, (this was room 5). I had also booked into the restaurant for the evening, which from the onset and before arriving we were asked to pre order, myself being a non meat eater had literally one option on the menu (a vegan burger and chips), my Mother was not impressed with the very basic bar meal type menu either, but with not knowing the area and to know where else to eat I felt I had no choice but to accept it. We went down to the bar restaurant area for a pre drink, there wasn’t much of a choice at the bar, or any particular welcome or care. Also there was a wedding party who had now joined this area, the garden doors were wide open (it was very cold) people were literally standing drinking around the dining tables. The whole feel regardless of this was very impersonal and basic, at this point I informed the barman we did not want the table to eat and would take our chances finding some where else in town, to which he was more then happy to recommend a few places! We actually ended up in a great restaurant literally a few doors down called ‘Paulos’ which was great with such lovely staff. The staff on arrival when we checked in were nice enough, but I found others a little rude and with lack of care. There was also no breakfast included in what I think was a lot of money for all the above! Again the following morning we made our way out to find somewhere for breakfast. This is all a real shame as this hotel I’m sure in it’s time was very special, it’s now left tired and unfulfilling, but has so much potential to be a prime city centre hotel.

Booked through an agency, that seemed to imply we had the best 'suite' in the plac. Certainly we paid more than was advertised.

The imposing entrance hides an odd mixture. The reception area is dark-stained timber. Very austere, not welcoming. No lift on that floor, so a sloping corridor wends its way past toilets to a lift on the second floor. Straight ahead is the bar/restaurant. Breakfast was strange for a 4 star hotel: no brown bread, and no vegan sausage (for two days).

Room was adequate but not welcoming. Thin quality curtains meant that light was never excluded. The furniture was advertised on TV, wardrobe at £498. One easy chair. we had to request more towels as the room was equipped for one person. No extra toiletries arrived.

The only newspaper we found was in the small lounge: Times, Guardian and a local paper. One guest came in 7 seven times to see if I had finished reading the Guardian.

Not sure the Spa was visited by anyone during our stay.

Restaurant did not appear to serve anything more than breakfast. Car par was good, once found.

Don't want to sound too upset but I'm old. The shower was big enough, but had no handholds. The bathroom was more than big enough to hold a dance, but not that well equipped.

This hotel has had a chequered history. The owners are clearly cutting costs (even though we paid too much). The facilities did not match up to four star a four star rating. Staff were helpful and friendly

This Hotel is beautiful on the outside and inside in a perfect location, down the road from the City centre near lots of restaurants! Maybe we were unlucky on the day we went in to ask for a room, the staff were not nice at all, very un -helpful and rude, even lying about room availability but this is before they shut, before they were taken over and the rooms were way too expensive, last year! Not the best hotel and certainly not worth the cost. (Hotel was tired and needed updating) You would be better off staying in the Travelodge city centre (on the bus station), it is in the City and depending on dates can be up to £95 cheaper, we always stay here if we stay the night. And easy to jump on the bus early to go to pretty much anywhere if you want to visit other areas for a day out even though there is enough to do in the best City anywhere, Norwich!

Good afternoon mrmZ2339VP, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, however, I must say I am slightly confused. Did you stay with us 11 months ago or did you come in to the hotel to enquire for a room? I am sorry to hear you felt the staff were rude and un-helpful. As you can understand, we are a business and therefore our prices fluctuate all the time to stay in competition with our competitors. If you could kindly get in touch to discuss this matter further, I will be sure to get to the bottom of this and rectify the "issue". Kind regards Liza Dunnell General Manager

On arrival there is car parking to the rear of the hotel at a cost of £10 per day or part thereof, remember to put your car registration into the machine at the check-in desk. There is a lift from the carpark area to the check-in area. However, if you are then allocated any of the rooms 1 to 24 there are no lifts to these rooms from reception just a lot of stairs dependant upon your room number. On arrival we were allocated Room 20. It had a KSB, TV, a small wardrobe, tea and coffee making and a mini bar, but there were no separate chairs to sit on in the room. The view from the room is to the very unattractive rear of the hotel. The bathroom was large with both a bath and separate shower area, toiletries were provided as was a hair dryer. The décor of both the room and bathroom was dated and had many scuffs, stains and in the bathroom chipped tiles and the taps in the basin were loose. We had to ask to have the shower drain cleaned as the shower was flooding the bathroom floor. We had breakfast each morning which was excellent with all the cooked options being cooked fresh, so there was quite a wait after ordering on some occasions. There is a small bar area which when we were there had run out of gin and many other spirits as well as the mixers, probably because, as we found out later, the hotel is up for sale.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback! We appreciate your review and value your opinion. It's important to note that our rooms 1-16 are conveniently accessible by lift, while rooms 17-24 do not have lift access. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused and want to ensure that our guests have accurate information. If you prefer a comfortable sitting area, all of our suites are equipped with one, so we recommend booking one of those. Although our central location means that some rooms may have street views, we are pleased to inform you that your room overlooked our lovely terrace. We want to assure you that our hotel is not for sale. Currently, we are undergoing refurbishments to enhance our grade 11* listed building and maintain its beauty. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the shortage of certain spirits during your stay. We had a significant event the previous night, coupled with numerous guests ordering G&T's in the hot weather, which led to the depletion of our stock. We appreciate your understanding and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.

Booked for a 2 night stay, very good location (explains most of the price) and helpful central city parking. The outside of the hotel is stunning and it does have lovely features. The room was comfortable although not very luxurious and the inside of the hotel looks very tired and could do with a lick of paint at the least, not the 4 star you'd expect.
Don't bother with paying for breakfast here, you need to wait ages to get served and it isn't worth it, try Cafe 33 or Two Magpies Bakery instead.
The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful, paper delivered to my room nice and early.
