I stayed for two nights here, which exceeded my expectations in every way. The hospitality of Shirley and Robert went above and beyond, beginning with Shirley’s offer to fetch me from the Settle Railway Station. She and Robert also gave me great suggestions for short local walks and places to eat. Having finished a walking holiday in the dales, I very much appreciated my room with the bathtub. The nicely decorated, quiet room also had a comfortable bed and a pretty view of the local hills from my window. I chose scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for breakfast, which were delicious. And while I understand that pod coffee machines aren’t very eco-friendly, I liked being able to make my own cup of strong coffee each morning. I would definitely stay here again if I return to the area.

Shirley and Robert are fantastic hosts. The guesthouse is spotlessly clean. Our room was very well maintained and the bedding was lovely. The breakfast was freshly cooked with a good variety. The garden is gorgeous with fantastic views. Would definitely stay again.

What a wonderful B&B.
I knew it would be from the reviews but it definitely lived up to it!
As soon as we arrived Shirley was a friendly host offering us Tea and Scones and Rocky Road cake!
The house is just beautiful and our room was gorgeous. Very big even with a camp bed for our little one and very tastefully decorated. It is in such a quiet area too. Even though there is a road out to the right we could have heard a pin drop at night time. The view from the winder was of the surrounding countryside and we could watch steam trains running along the Settle to Carlisle railway.
Breakfast was lovely and again we were made to feel very welcomed. Filtered coffee and water plus juice, cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, fresh toast and a full cooked English with eggs from the garden, what more could you want!!
The garden is lovely with an abundance of fruit trees and chickens.
I can honestly say it's probably the best B&B we have stayed in and we will definitely be back!

I was here last weekend when I did the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge with a group. We absolutely loved the hospitality of Shirley & Robert. They were fantastic. The place was very spacious. Huge dining space and lovely bedrooms.

Since we had an early start, Shirley packed us lunch (egg mayo and tomato & Cheese sandwiches) for the hike. She gave us very useful tips for the hike too.

I would definitely recommend Valleymead.

NOTE: She is an amazing baker and if she offers you cake DO NOT SAY NO, you might regret it later. They are the most moist and lovely cakes I ever had.

We stayed at Valleymead for the weekend with 2 other couples, so had the whole B&B to ourselves. On arrival we were offered a pot of tea and homemade biscuits straight from the oven which was a nice extra touch. Similarly when we returned from our walk on Saturday Shirley made us a cream tea, with freshly baked scones and we watched the first half of the England Wales rugby match in the lovely conservatory, watching their chickens wandering around the garden. The rooms are all well appointed and it seems like everything has been thought of, from fresh milk in a fridge outside the bedrooms (plus a range of soft drinks) to a hot water bottle and pegs just inside each room for outdoor clothing. There was even a corkscrew, although with plenty of pubs nearby we didn't use ours. There is plenty of parking and the location is excellent for all of the local amenities. Great breakfast too and good value for money.

We had 3 very comfortable nights here. We were certainly very well looked after. I can only confirm the general comments made previously about the way guests are looked after, effectively as though they are at the invitation of the hosts. Shirley's baking is certainly not to be turned away and she and her husband, Robert, are very sociable without being obtrusive.

The rooms do vary, though they are all top quality. Only one has an actual (unusual shaped!) bath. The others just have showers which were very good and I did appreciate the automatic night light. Storage space in my room was quite fine and the fan was also good to see. There are not really chairs for sitting around in the rooms but if any sitting around is wanted, it can be done in the breakfast room. Plenty of local information is provided for visitors.

Breakfast is in a lovely room and included excellent fruit salad, a variety of cereals and a great full English option which I, for one, enjoyed. I also appreciated the fact that the serviettes were proper linen ones, not just paper.

I cannot think of anything negative to report but would only say by way of information that the rooms are upstairs for anyone who has trouble walking.

Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts. The room was beautiful and we spent a very comfortable night here with a great breakfast included. There was even a bike rack in the secure garage. Highly recommended!

This was my third visit this year - I keep going back because it is so good. Wonderful welcome, lovely rooms, delicious breakfast and a really relaxed atmosphere. We will be back. There is also an excellent restaurant a few yards up the road. One of my favourite b and b's of all time and I've stayed in a few.

My third visit was of the same friendly high standard as previous ones. I had a double room with a view over the garden. On the landing Shirley put out tea and coffee making facilities and there is a fridge containing water and ...yes fresh milk, not horrid UHT packets. Breakfasts are cooked to order and there was home made granola and fresh fruit too.The large room where breakfast is served is also available for guests to eat take- away meals should they wish!Plenty of parking too. As I was checking out Shirley was just finished cooking scones so I stayed a little longer and had one with a cup of tea. Truly home from home.
