The hotel looked amazing in the pictures and was well reviewed…we weren’t disappointed. The huge fireplace as you walk in sets the tone for the rest of the building, which is very grand with high ceilings and antique features. Bedrooms were clean, comfy and well sized.
We had a lovely breakfast each morning, with a good selection on the menu as well as pastries and fruit/granola/yoghurt etc to pick at. Food was also served in the evening, although we opted to go into Settle most nights to some restaurants that had previously been recommended.
The staff were fantastic, with a special mention to Chris who was on hand for the duration of our stay (not sure he ever left!) and was as an excellent receptionist/barman/waiter/all rounder that made sure we were looked after and was extremely approachable for any help needed.
We would certainly recommend anyone to stay here, even more so in the quieter months when you can pick up a room at great value. I’m sure we’ll be back and will always have fond memories of the Falcon Manor Hotel!
The grounds were lovely and made an ideal picturesque setting for a wedding where photographs could easily be taken outside. Downside - many steps to get onto the lawned area at the front!
There were delicious canopes provided prior to the wedding reception meal which suggested the actual meal would be equally good. However, I must say I was disappointed with the meal. I had the smoked cheese and walnut tart with a side of 'salad' leaves, beef and Yorkshire pudding with pureed carrot and roast potatoes, followed by the caramel chocolate brownie with clotted cream ice cream.
Tart was good but a bit overcooked causing the pastry to be very hard and the side of salad leaves were, literally just that, a tiny pile of bits of varied lettuces with no dressing to break the rich creaminess of the smoked goat cheese.
The large roll of beef on the plate was tasteless and rather tough although cooked to a leanness that I like, the Yorkshire pudding was inedible as it was badly overbaked and the pureed carrot I eventually found beneath this - about a desertspoonful! The roast potatoes, although a lovely flavour, were soft and lacked crispness. There was a tiny amount of gravy underneath all of this but it needed much more to enhance the flavour of the beef. I chose a few sprigs of broccolli which were a nice colour but were stringy and tough and although I looked at the carrots, that's as far as it went, because they looked dry and uninviting. A little dressing of melted butter to gloss them up wouldn't have gone amiss.
Dessert - yes, flavour 10/10 but the brownie was a complete mush-up and overheated while the clotted ice cream was minute, not much more than a couple of small teaspoons in a blob, although pleasant enough in flavour. More would have been better given the heat of the brownie.
Tea and Coffee was on the menu but never offered at the table as we all expected. Apparently there was some in another room but we weren't informed of this. Due to guests milling around, some leaving, in this room it wasn't even seen until my grandson mentioned it this morning!
Wines were plentiful but if, like myself and at least one other guest, who are non-alcohol due to medication and a gastric problem tough luck because when I asked for non-alcoholic wine I was bluntly told there wasn't any! In my view this plus the lack lustre food put a slight dampener on the day but my grandaughter looked gorgeous and the sun shone down upon us so all in all the day was good. Food 5/10 venue 8/10 staff 6/10 because they could have been more welcoming and helpful. The only one who was pleasant and helpful was the black waiter taking the canopes around and helping at tables.
The whole visit was excellent in every way. The room was superb, the hotel rooms ( bar lounges etc) were Christmas decorated ( not overdone but pretty much just right) and were warm, characterful and generally charming. The evening meal was good and ALL the staff excellent.
The background to us booking, was that a few weeks ago, I was walking , in Settle area fells. After the wallk, my walking group went for coffee. We were treated with such excellent goodwill and service that this was a major factor in my wife and I being attracted to the hotel.
People often say that corporate hotels have no character and are just "so so". This company 's hotel ( staff etc) shows that this is not always the case.
Well done.We will be back.

Breakfast was fine and we had a couple of starter portions on the Sunday afternoon which also very nice
Hotel is dog friendly and a good option for an overnight visit.
This a beautiful place and is well regarded locally
We did not stay overnight
The place is relatively small and the 80ish guests packed the dining room for the wedding breakfast making it a little claustrophobic and hard to get around
The food was good and impressively the staff knew who had ordered what from the menu we received in advance of the day
The bar service was less good with very slow service and occasionally unhelpful bar staff
The bathrooms were the real disaster. The facilities were small always crowded and as the day wore on became wet, smelly and generally unpleasant to use.
I know this place was expensive to host the wedding and something closer to perfection would be reasonable expectation and while I enjoyed myself the poor bar service and gross bathrooms would stop me booking a future event …
