Although no car park it is easy to park across the road in the public car park £2.20 from 4 pm until 10 am. The Golden Lion give you the post code to the car park in their confirmation.

We had to have a twin room for our two night stay. I had requested that it be made as a double and this was already done on our arrival. We were checked in by a very friendly person.

Our room had a large radiator in it and once turned up gave more than enough warmth for the room. The shower room was small but very clean.

We ate in the restaurant on both nights. Food is cooked fresh so do expect to wait but both meals were delicious.
Breakfast is also cooked to order, with choices other than full English breakfast.

Now the staff - well we did not find one unfriendly staff member. They obviously work as a team (or even a family). They are professional and very friendly. You were a guest not a number and if anything was commented on it was remembered by that staff member.

I would not hesitate to say at the Golden Lion again.

Booked this as a base from which to have a walk around the dales and then recover with a drink and an open fire, and it did not disappoint. Staff were very welcoming, the rooms were great (we stayed in a “comfort” room whereas our friends stayed in a standard room and the “comfort” room is well worth the extra £20 or so). Only thing missing was a bath in the en suite which would have been welcome after a hard days walking. The very best bit though was the food...sublime! The beef wellington that we all had for our evening meal ranks as being one of the best meals I’ve ever had. People around us were commenting as it was served. It was just amazing! Prices were very reasonable too. Altogether highly recommended.

The heated winter huts at the Lion were the perfect location for meeting family members in a small group outdoors. I was impressed from the moment I made the telephone booking when I was asked several questions about who would be attending and what postcodes they lived in. This showed me that The Lion were taking covid rules very seriously. The huts are simply stunning; festively decorated and well equipped with heater and blankets. It all looks quite magical!
We were offered a choice of menus and enjoyed delicious high quality well presented food with was piping hot. Two of us chose turkey from the festive menu and the other had roast beef.
Service was excellent and attentive from start to finish and we were even offered hot water bottles! We could not have enjoyed it more, especially on such a wet horrid day. Thank you to everyone involved.

We stayed for one night, midweek in March. Our room was small but perfectly formed, clean and comfortable. The pub area had a lovely atmosphere and a nice fire to sit by, plenty of choice at the bar too. The Golden Lion is very dog friendly and dogs are allowed inside the premises. The food in the restaurant was delicious, a good selection and very generous portions. Our group of five were very impressed with the food and the service which was excellent. Breakfast was also great, cooked to order and very filling, certainly set us up for the day climbing a couple of mountains. All the staff we met at the Golden Lion were very helpful and pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be back. Parking is at a public car park just a few minutes walk away but you can drop off your bags at the Golden Lion first before parking so it's not an issue.

We stayed in Austwick this week but the local pub was closed on Monday and Tuesday so we booked the Golden Lion for our evening meals. The whole experience was wonderful. The staff welcomed us on arrival and they were all attentive and very polite. The menu was extensive enough to enable my wife and I to choose suitable alternatives on both evenings. The service was first class and the food was excellent.
The cost was not dear at all so overall we cannot speak to highly of this venue and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.
We now look forward to calling again next Spring.

Booked a last minute pub break. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Restaurant menu was all freshly prepared food and great value (did note on some comments people think its expensive but that's through a lack of understanding to catering, food has gone up in shops so will also be more expensive on a menu as well as staff most likely now earning above minimum wage)
Bed was comfy and no need for ear plugs as surprisingly room was quiet and we had a great nights sleep.
Breakfast was cooked fresh and a particular mention to the waitress serving breakfast on Sunday

The Golden Lion is one of my locals and it is a lovely setting. However on a handful of occasions our visits have been let down by unwelcoming atmosphere. The first time this happened it was just shurrged off however it has happened a further few times and has put me off wanting to return.

On arrival you have to wait behind a chain so that a member of staff can find a table for you. (A member of staff who I had the impression may be a manager) has demanded that we check in on the app claiming it is compulsory and making us show him our phone to see if we had. We asked about checking in on paper but was not given this option. Not very good if you don’t own a smart phone as many of the older community do not?
He has been stand offish when we asked if tables were available and when we asked about breakfast menus. It’s a shame to have such an initial first impression of the pub by someone who has been unpleasant and unwelcoming.
Other members of my group had pointed this out too.

The prices of drinks are high but this can be accepted if the experience had been more pleasant.

Besides this the venue itself is very pleasant and the courtyard is very pretty. Other members of staff have been more than accommodating. The menu is very impressive and I hope to return and have a different experience.

At £150 a night I was expecting a little more. What I got was a tiny room without even a proper wardrobe (because there was not room for one). The room overlooked the alley, so no view and was above the kitchen who clanged and banged loudly from 6.30am each morning. The shower was tiny and a bit broken. The bed very soft. If I had paid £80 I would have still felt it was below average. Trading on location alone I think.

What a great place to stay in the heart of Settle.
The Golden Lion with its open fires, friendly, welcoming and efficient staff make you feel at home.
The rooms are to a good standard, with excellent quality beds and bedding with a little added luxury of Whites Company bathroom products.
The added bonus for us that is also dog friendly with even providing dog blankets and towels at the entrance if you require them.
The breakfast is of the highest standard with excellent quality ingredients and nothing is too much other for the attentive staff.
We also used the restaurant on the Saturday evening and the food, drink and service were also faultless.
When we visit different places we usually attempt to try different accommodations to see what is on offer, but when we visit settle again in the near future we will be staying again at the Golden Lion, no need to try anywhere else, friendly, comfortable and good value for money, why go elsewhere.

A lovely welcome and nice to be back. But if you're having to offer waiter service. You need your waiters to know what's on offer. Incredibly disappointed to find that having been offered Stowford Press cider and drunk two pints of this bland liquid you had Rosie's Pig cider on tap.
