Nestled in a prime spot with captivating sea views, the Riviera Guest House stands out for its cleanliness, cozy and well-maintained rooms, and a friendly atmosphere, thanks to an attentive staff often lauded for excellent service. Couldn't fault the place at all. Compared to all of my previous stays over the years, I can safely say that this place has been my best stay by a long way. I will definitely be considering this place again as a priority for any other trips that I make to Whitby in the future.

First thing I would like to say is thanks to Zed & Emma for making our stay pleasant and safe in our current climate.
There is hand sanitiser on every floor and the breakfast dining area is fogged on a daily basis, breakfast has two sittings to ensure social distancing, you are also requested to wear masks but not compulsory.
We had the posh room with the four poster bed and bay window with en suite and very nice, loads of wardrobe space and draws plug sockets with usb, bed very comfortable with springy sprung mattress. En-suite had a great shower and towels where proper white fluffy ones, drink making facilities that where topped up daily, but only one pack of biccies to share.
Breakfast was pre order in the evening, full english or whatever, Whitby kippers very nice, cereal, tea, coffee, toast and choice of egg, very tasty and plenty.
Great location right on the sea front, had a great view from our room which had two high back chairs and a table, great to watch the world go by.
Overall a very relaxing and friendly short break.
Whitby was surprisingly busy which was nice to see, and hopefully all those in the hospitality industry’s will pull through this year.
It was great to holiday in our beautiful costal resorts and thank you and good fortune to Zed, Emma & family.

Check in was quick and efficient, including sorting out a parking pass for the disc zone (£2 for 4 days). I was also asked about housekeeping, we chose not to have housekeeping come in to the room but the lady did check daily if we needed anything. In the reception area was a hand sanitising station (one on every floor) with a notice asking that you sanitised your hands before going upstairs.

Our room was number 9 on the third floor with views over the harbour to one side, the Pavilion to the other. The room is a fair size with plenty of wardrobe/drawer space. The bed was clean and comfortable. There’s a kettle with plenty of tea and coffee, glasses for water and wine glasses. The bathroom was a good size with views out to sea. In the room was a folder which held lots of information about what is being done due to COVID-19, places to eat/visit and the breakfast menu (along with order forms which need to be filled in the night before and placed in the relevant box).

Breakfast. There are 2 dining rooms, one at each side of reception and there’s a list on the wall that tells you which side you need to go in. All tables are numbered. The friendly staff served drinks (hot and cold), cereal and toast before your pre-ordered breakfast arrived. I loved breakfast on each of our 3 mornings. Salmon and scrambled egg, kippers and a full English.

We loved our stay at The Riviera. The weather was shocking during our stay so we did spend a lot of time in our room but we were very comfortable and happy in there.

We will definitely be back. Thank you Zed, Emma and staff

The location is perfect I must say , the room which we stayed in was family room but quite small , it was bit closthrophobic the same goes for the bathroom , when you get out of the shower it is right challenge to turn around without a toilet roll getting stick onto your wet body :) lol somewhat amusing to the rest of the family .

The room could do with some update and redecoration , in particular the wallpaper as there were scratches all over it and walls had tea marks , well I hope it was only tea. The beds could do with new mattresses too , we did not have very good sleep , none of us . It might be a good idea to mention when booking that the room have a view to the fire stairs and less desirable area . I would rather know and perhaps picture should be shown .

When walking up and down I have noticed that door handles and doors could do with bit of cleaning too , bleach might work really well as some doors had black marks on them . I also notice that there is lots of picture frames with rewards and news what an amazing guest house this is and what a lovely rooms they have it was a bit of slap in the face as our room was nothing like what they said in newspaper and frankly I would rather see local art on the wall then old write up that’s from the past and not really match up the current condition but I get that , they owners are very proud of them . The place just needs some TLC and fresh paint .

I think it could be cheaper as I could not see why we paid £350 for three nights . We would not stay there again but it would work for short , basic stay if desired . The location was great .

I would like to stress that the host Zed was nice and friendly but I feel it needs to be said that it needs some attention and the property needs uplift .

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We do love a bit of constructive criticism as it does help us to continually improve what we offer to our guests. We always act upon any feedback we receive. Zed and I have been chatting over the points you have raised regarding the room you stayed in this Summer and you have planted the seed for us to change this room throughout winter. We are thinking about changing it from a family room to a double room so that we can make the bathroom bigger and more spacious. Of course, at the same time we would give the room a full re-decoration. We are slowly changing all of our mattresses to Hypnos mattresses as we are getting raving reviews about the comfort of the rooms we have already changed. Due to the expense, we can't do them all at once but we are about half way through the Guesthouse now. You review has prompted us to change this mattress next so a huge thank you for the information. We are sorry that your stay wasn't what you had expected, this does make us really sad to hear but please be assured that every one of your comments will be acted upon to improve the experience for future guests. Best wishes Emma Riviera, Whitby

Booked over the phone after a late change to our stay in Beverley.Spoke with Zed and the process was efficient.
Warmly welcomed on arrival and our bags were taken up to our room (no.2) which was a 4 poster with wonderful views out to sea. Zed explained he had upgraded us and we were most pleased with the room. We had difficulty moving away from the large bay window with two comfortable chairs as we enjoyed the views and watching the world go by.
Room facilities were good with plenty tea, coffee and biscuits. Very clean. The bathroom had a lovely large bath and shower with plenty of hot water.
Breakfast was served in a nice room with sea views. We just had porridge, cereal and toast for breakfast but the cooked breakfast served on the next table looked really nice which would set you up for the day!
Zed was very laid back about checking out and we were not rushed.
We recommend anyone who wants clean, comfortable accommodation with a great location and friendly welcoming hosts to book The Riviera.

We stayed for two nights as a family, the owner greeted us and was very friendly and made us feel welcome. We were given a parking permit that lasted for up to 4 days at a cost of £2
The accommodation is in a brilliant location, the view from our room and the breakfast area are fabulous.
The room was clean and comfortable, everything had been thought of, I particularly liked the wine glasses and the water filter in the entrance hall for guests to use.
The breakfast was fantastic, plenty of choice for any dietary needs.
A family friendly run establishment, thank you, we had a great weekend and would definitely return.

Firstly if you're considering booking into The Riviera just do it. You'll be so impressed.

Situated looking out to sea above Whitby Pavilion and just a few steps from the Whale Bone Arch overlooking Whitby, this impeccable guest house is a very classy affair.

The communications from the owners when I booked was first class, and not only did they explain fully how my stay would be and how they work during current events to keep everyone safe, they also took the time to put it in a little letter for me with my room key on arrival so I could read it in my own time. Nothing heavy just a few points about how breakfast would work etc

The room itself was absolutely spotless, couldn't fault it in any way whatsoever. The bed was really comfy and I slept like a log.

Oh and did I mention the room had the greatest sea view where I could look out at the pirate ship taking people out to sea? Amazing views!

The little things too show that these guys are hospitality experts, with Tetley teabags, Nescafe coffee, Lurpak butter etc showing they don't cut any corners.

The shower was modern and fantastic

Breakfast was so smoothly executed and a big well done to the breakfast staff who really did an exceptional job of looking after me, making sure I was topped up with coffee and serving the most delicious breakfast with some of the best quality bacon I've ever had.

Overall this is now on my must stay places when I'm in Whitby and any chance to book into here I will do it if it's not booked up!

Great stay - highly highly recommended

The guest house is in a perfect spot, free parking, friendly welcome from Zed.
Well kept clean guest house throughout. Our room was clean welcoming, warm with tea and coffee facilities with biscuits, hairdryer, ironing board, lovely lighting, plenty of mirrors and plug sockets. On suite shower room, hot powerful shower and fluffy white towels. Plenty of storage space.
We slept well both nights.
Our friend was in a single attic room and wasn't as over keen as us. He had a shower room separate from his room which we knew about but it was the size of a cupboard and had to sit sideways on the toilet it was so small.
It wasn't exactly across the landing either. He had to run along the landing in his undies in the middle of the night. He said his room was cold whereas we had to turn our heater off. Whether he just didn't know how to turn the radiator up we dont know.
However it would be a good idea to hang an oversized dressing gown behind the bedroom door for guests in the middle of the night.
My only gripe was having to get up early when I'm on holiday. I like a lie in. After all I
have to get up early for work every day. The breakfast was from 8 till 9 and I was told that I can come down at 5 to 9 or miss breakfast. I had to catch up on my sleep when I came home.
The breakfast was great and we could order as much as we wanted.
The cutlery was stuck to the table, but that was because they laid the table too soon after wiping and sanitising it. The coffee unfortunately was luke warm every time. The staff were efficient and friendly.
We would recommend the Riviara Guest house in Whitby.

Stayed for 2 nights following 12 weeks of lockdown!! Booked on arrival and was shown to a beautiful Sea view room no.5, even the bathroom had a spectacular view! Host Zed was really helpful and ensured we knew all the requirements for breakfast ie specific sheet to fill in your breakfast choices the night before and two sittings to ensure social distancing. Tasty fresh breakfast served each morning, scrambled eggs were cooked to perfection! Little touches like antibacterial spray in your room and gel in the foyer meant that you could comfortably enjoy your stay without overly worrying too much about Covid.Even managed the 199 steps upto the Abbey which had wonderful panoramic views. Would highly recommend at stay at this property and would like to say a special thanks to our hosts for making this trip as stress free as possible..ps watch out for those pesky gulls!!

We stayed at The Riviera for 3 nights B&B as my birthday treat as we love whitby!
We stayed in room 11 which was clean and had a very comfortable bed, beautiful sea views and a huge bathroom (with bath which was a must for me!)

The hosts Emma & Zed were polite and helped us with parking tokens, and breakfast times ect.
Breakfast was very good and well organized with the pre order system- I had the muffin with mushrooms, bacon and syrup and it was gorgeous. (I had it two days in a row I liked it that much!)

As the other reviews state there are quite a few stairs-which wasn't a problem for us at all but maybe if you are concerned, ask for a lower floor room :)
